The players disgust? Screw them. The players suck. They will be held accountable just as much. We've had enough managers to know at some point the roster just BLOWS.

According to Joel Soria, Almeyda had meetings with both Jesse and Fisher about what he needs. He said ball is in Fisher's court for supplying the funds. So basically we're screwed nothing will happen.

Wow, you guys deserve better than this. Your loyalty is far above the level of play of this team.
Fisher and his cabal need to go so you can have the team you deserve.

Conspiracy theory talked about on the post game show going around that Almeyda is playing players that aren't MLS quality to show Fisher things need to change.

DC United loses 1-0 tonight and this is how their coach responds:

Ben Olsen, after 1-0 defeat at Nashville: "We were a bunch of frauds in the first half. Unacceptable performance from us. It was uninspiring. It looked like we were still on Sun Country Airlines or whatever we flew here this morning."

Quakes coach after a 5-0 loss: "We’re playing youngsters in a difficult time and that saddens me.”

    LOL

Wasn’t it last year that Almeyda said he liked the guys he had and preferred them over “stars in the sky”?

He played Rios, Fierro and Vega tonight. These were guys he advocated to get so I don’t think he can use them as examples of low quality players. His other recommendation, Alanis was out injured. They haven’t moved the needle.

Pretty much sums up the story of the San Jose Earthquakes since 2008.

Fisher is busy offloading players (salaries), he won’t budge.

I’ve been telling y’all for years, Fisher is the problem...he doesn’t give a damn about competing in MLS.

Supporting this team financially is doing more harm than good - fans need to force the issue.

    Fisher out!

    We are abysmal.

The guys that Jesse and Matias have brought in mostly suck. Espinoza is really good, Judson is decent, Lopez might be OK as a backup, maybe Paul Marie too. BUT, Vega, Vako, Kashia, Alanis, Fiero, and Rios all just suck. We have a couple of home grown dudes who might not suck. Otherwise, we're freaking crap.

So Almeyda talked to Fisher, told him we were going to suck. At what point do Almeyda and Jesse take responsibility for this shit show and quit? They brought in substandard players. It is *their* fault that they continue to underestimate the quality of the league. They fail to understand that every team is super fit! It's one of the things that US sports teams do well. We need players with foot speed and brain speed. And I see very little of that from anyone.

Jesse and Almeyda both need to go, the sooner the better.

And the rest is re-hash. We've said it all before. We are crap, it is our fault that we are crap. We don't seem to care that we are crap.

    Go Quakesfans!!

It's not just that we need to spend more, it's that we spend stupidly. We need for someone else to make the spending decisions because Jesse and Almeyda suck at it. If Fisher gives Almeyda and Jesse more money, they will just squander it, and nothing much will change.

And as I've said before, it's not just about spending more on the roster. We need better scouts, some analysts because we have none, better training facilities, linguist assistants for the non-native English speakers to help them and their families get settled. Better marketing. We're just horrible in every facet of running this team.

    Go Quakesfans!!

This show was excellent. The Almeyda and Wondo press conference answers were important and revealing and the Black and Azul discussion afterwards was really worth watching. If you haven't subscribed to this you should. I don't know of any other outlet who broadcasts the press conference live, but these guys do. INO, tonight it was very informative.

@Replikait said this in the pre-game thread. "But I said, Robinson sucked ass his first game and he became a great. So we will see with Beason, but I think he will be gone after his contract is up. Especially if we 'do' sign some centerback help. Someone needs to be expended and He would likely be on the block if they kept Kashia, Alanis + new people."

If Almeyda and or Jesse even contemplate keeping Kashia and Alanis, they should both be sent packing immediately. Backups and rookies are not the problems here, the problem is that our starters suck. And Almeyda has them playing a system in which they will never be successful and getting whooped game after game is terrible for their psyches. We should really fire both Almeyda and Jesse first thing in the morning and let ChrisL and whoever he wants to coach have a crack at it.

Drastic, immediate change is what we need.

I'd rather a coach say we suck ass, we need new players, give me what I need. Then what we have.

That's a good theory, because what we have isn't even USL quality... so if that conspiracy is true whos the suspects?

THESE ARE THE SAME PEOPLE WHO ARE PAYING FIERRO 700K!!! VEGA 200K, AND RIOS 200K!!!!!!! BUYING PLAYERS ISNT THE DIRECT ANSWER TO THIS HOG WASH OF BULL SHIT. We need someone to GUT this ROSTER and BUILD it back up instead of this patch work retread dollar store patch job we do every single season!!!

The problem is our SUBS AND BACKUPS ARE THE PROBLEM because those guys shouldn't even be back ups, and the guys playing SHOULD BE backups, and some shouldn't even be in the damn league.

A team they drew a few weeks ago, they get shelled. Only thing left to say is get the GM and owner out. The coach can stay but see what he can do if a new GM and owner gives him the players and money to compete.

Fisher is merely another Schott in Oakland and Cohan with the owners. Simply put--he needs to sell if he sees the team as a write off instead of wanting to compete.

    End the season.

I'm not weighing in one way or the other (1. because what's the point? 2. false dichotomy, "por que no los dos?") but there are plenty of "highly rated" college kids who don't amount to squat in MLS or even in USL, it's a total crapshoot. And the gap between college and MLS is far greater now than when we were drafting Sam Garza, JJ Koval, etc. What's our last high draft pick Siad Haji doing these days, is he even standing out against USL competition in Reno? (not a rhetorical question, I really don't know)

    Here are some more questions:

How many Stanford players have the Quakes drafted in the last decade and how many of those turned into decent MLS players?

How many Stanford players have gone on to have success in MLS besides Jordan Morris, who significantly improved his game through hard work? What happened to the captain of those championship Stanford teams, that other center back, the one drafted by the Galaxy... is he even decent in USL?

    Edit: Tomas Hilliard-Arce

Drafted second overall... LA Galaxy -> LA Galaxy II -> Sacramento Republic (where he hasn't played)

Stanford under Jeremy Gunn barely plays anything approaching real soccer, it's not surprising that their success under those stupid rules doesn't translate, kind of the opposite of Caleb Porter and Akron a decade ago...

Anyone see Quakes fans holding signs that said "Suck for... the next Tanner Beason"?

This quote from Almeyda is disingenuous. He said when he was hired he would build the team though the youth academy. He can’t have it both ways. This is what he should have communicated to the media:

Tonight was yet again a tough lesson for our younger players. They will have to learn how to deal with the professional lifestyle of being a pro athlete and the highs and lows that come with that. We have high expectations for their development.

Because of the compressed schedule many teams are having to rely on their youth academy players, just like we are. Many of those youngsters are playing well and some are not. Our guys need to look inside themselves and see what they need to do to become elite players.

This also goes for the veterans and mentors playing on this team. Are they doing the job they are paid to do? Are they supporting each other and are they holding themselves and their teammates accountable?

The money they make supports their families. Will they be paid to continue to play this game if they put out performances like this? Time will tell. They have to understand they are not just representing themselves or me, they are also representing their fans and their city.

It is my job to evaluate everything that happened tonight and to teach the painful lessons we should be learning from this experience. There is no pleasure in doing this, but it is a requirement if we have any pride in ourselves as members of the Earthquake family.

Trust me, there is no one in this locker room that is satisfied with how we are playing.

Just because college guys are rated high, get drafted in the first round doesn't translate to 'MLS Quality'. Lets look at every first round college draft and every player from 1996-2020 that were all scouted and recruited as the top prospects in the draft to have little impact on the clubs they played for or any respectable MLS career, all these men have failed.

Mike Fisher, Rob Jachym, Mac Cozier, Temoc Suarez, Mike Mekelburg, Danny Care, Jason Moore, Lazo ALavanja, Andrew Mittendorf, Matt Chulis, Tony Soto, Ali Curtis, Craig Demmin, Isias Bardales Jr, Danny Mwanga, Tony Tchani, Amobi Okugo, Jack McInerney, Dilly Duka, Zack Schilawski, Blair Gavin, David Estrada, Bright Dike, Corben Bone, Austin Da Luz, Michael Stephens, Casey Townsend, Sam Garza, Chandler Hoffman, Tony Cascio, Andrew Duran, Enzo Martinez, Colin Rolfe, Tommy Meyer, Erik Ustruck, Omar Salgado, Zarek Valentin, Michael Nanchoff, Rich Balchan, Corey Hertzog, Victor Estupinan, Paolo Cardozo, Bobby Warshaw, Eddie Ababio, Steve Shak, Aleksey Korol, Travis Mulraine, Alan Woods, Kyle Bekker, CHristian Dean, Steve Neumann, Andre Lewis, Damion Lowe, JJ Koval, Marco Fanco, Pedro Ribero, AJ Cochrane, Schillo Tshuma, Ryan Neil, Grant Van De Casteele,Romario Williams, Matt Polster, Zach Steinberger, CLement Simonin, Connor Hallisey, Skyler Thomas, Otis Earle, Miguel Aguilar, Leo Stolz, Sergio Campbell, IGnacio Magnato, Joshua Yaro, Brnadon Vincent, Omar Holness, Jordan McCrary, Julian Buscher, Kyle Fisher, Emmanuel Appiah, Cole Seller, Ryan Herman, Nick Bockwinkle, Justin Bilyeu, Rodrigo Saravia, Ben Polk, Santiago Patino, Callum Montgomery, Griffin Dorsey, Sam Junqua, John Nelson, DeJuan Jones, Luis Barraza, Logan Guida, Akeem Ward, Chase Gasper, Roy Boateng, Sam Brown, JJ Williams, Emil Cuello, Tucker Bone, Kamar Marriott, Janos Lobe, Anderson Asiedu, O'Brian White, Peri Marosevic, Jeremy Hall, Jean Alexandre, Ryan Maxwell, Ciaran O'Brien, ANdy Iro, Josh Lambo, Julias James, Dominic Cervi, Rob Valentino, Nico Colacula, Jerson Monteiro, Anthony Wallace, Bryan Arguez, Amechi Igwe, John Micahel Hayden, Jason Garey, Justin Moose, Leandro De Oliveria, Nick Besagno, Matt Taylor, Scott Buete, Steve Cronin, David Stokes, Diego Waslh, Guillermo Gonzalez, Chris Gbandi, Mansour Ndiaye, Carl Bussey, Hamisi-Amani Dove, Billy Sleeth, Dauda, Kante, Lee Morrison, Carlos Alvarez, Deshorn Brown, Blake SMith, John Stertzer, Jason Johnson, Tommy Muller, Mikey Lopez, Taylor Kemp, Emery Welshman, Charlie Rugg.

There's quite a few names in there that once upon a time were regarded as very good players, Herman trophy winners, or studs in the youth national teams. Couldn't amount to anything in the MLS or beyond.

Now for comparison lets look at our first round draft picks since 1996.

In 1998 we took Ben Parry with the 3rd overall draft pick and he never got a game in Major League Soccer, but he is the exception to the rule. He was forced to retire I think because of a stomach virus. However with that said, us like every other team have more washouts then studs. With the Inaugural Draft excluded.

The jury is still out on Fatai Alashe, Jackson Yuiell, Adam Jahn, Andrew Tarbell, Paul Marie, Daniel Musovski, Said Haji, Tanner Beason, and Jack Skahan.

But I hope Skahan never steps foot onto the field again.

Alvarez, Amarikwa, Barrett, Beitashour, Cocrhane, Conway, Dunivant, Goldthwaite, Levesque, Lewis, Morrow, Mulrooney, Opara, O'Rourke, Robinson, Russell, Salinas, Saunders, Waibel, and Wondolowski have produced a good solid career.

    In comparison,
Montoya, Annichero, McDonald, Onalfo, Rodriguez, Porter, Weaver, Rueda, Soto, Montoya, Krakowiak, Clark, Viera, Farias, Farace, Mulraine, Evans, Ragusa, Narine, Hemmerich, Carrieri, Eidelwein, Woolfolk, Jorge Martinez, Luchi Gonzalez, Roner, Sakuda, Ozimek, Biddle, Lyssand, Walker, Maliza, Sanfilippo, Cronin, Wilson, Pecorelli, Pusek, Dombrowski, Arbelaez, Ramirez, Klaas, Jallow, Twellman, Brett Rodriguez, Fulton, Merl, SMarte, Bonnenkamp, Curry, Jepson, Ring, Thomas, Hoxie, Ampaipitakwong, Tuttle, Cortez, Garza, Hustedt, Blais, Diaz-Pizarro, Tiemstra, Kiffe, Krumpe, Muller, Delgado, Mithcell, mcGlinn, Koval, Sofia, Corrado, Dubose, Knutsen, Broome, Mez, Hodan, Colvey, Tyler Thompson, Mfeka, Thierjung, Schilder, Thiaw, Partida, Rivas, Camara, and Anue never have, and never will amount to any MLS Quality and some of these guys were highly regarded.

The interesting thing I found, since Fioranelli has taken over, we've passed on 5 total draft picks, so we aren't even using all of our draft picks in the god damn draft.

Success rate for college players to make it in the MLS or Beyond is so minimal, its why drafted guys these day's aren't regarded as hot prospects vs Home Grown Guys.
