With all things it takes a little practice and patience. I just started paddleboarding and each time I get out, I'm faster and more stable. Most adventure races are more legs than arms. This race seemed to have a lot more paddling than normal. Some races really required skilled navigation and that s usually where the race is won. I've seen some old and not hyper fit teams win before, because they are savvy navigators and know how to conserve energy and pace themselves. You saw in 1st episodes what can happen if you go out too fast. I literally binge watched the whole season last night. Seeing guys like Mark Macy and his old teammates giving it a go in their 70's was awesome. They are legendary in the sport. What's crazy is they were literally my age when they were at the top of the sport. No chance could I compete at that level of speed today. So sad to see Mark starting to battle alzheimers. They were going so strong - I really thought they would finish in top half. Nathan Fa'avae & the New Zealand teams have dominated the sport for decades - no surprise on the finishing order. Lenhart was typical Lenhart. They gave it a good go being completely inexperienced. I'm totally inspired once again. I will try to ramp up my adventures in length and intensity to see if maybe I can get back to some semblance of racing shape. Who knows, maybe I can have another go in the sport - but not likely one involving racing for podiums - just finishing.
Well as I said, I'm inspired. Last night I ran 10 miles at Highbanks. Intended to only do 6-7 but I felt surprisingly good and kept pressing on. But I'm paying for it today already. Very sore legs - the hills were killers. But I'm over the moon happy as I haven't run over 5 miles in probably 10 years and lately its been only 2-3 mi of running with some longer hikes every so often. My cycling is coming along again too - both road and mountain. I'm probably going to seriously upgrade the mountain bike (probably need to unload one of my road bikes first) and am actively seeking a nice ocean kayak. After last night I seriously think I'm going to try to find an Adventure Race possibly early next spring. Unfortunately there aren't as many around as there use to be. But talk to me tomorrow when the legs are really going to be sore - I may say I'm officially retiring.
If the money and the size of the bike is right, I may be interested. Also - congrats, way to go. Getting back in shape is next on my list.
An interesting piece about Steven Lenhart participating in a grueling reality show. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020...oughest-race-just-latest-part-his-existential Liked the guy when he played here. A true original.
Kei Kamara headed to his 9th (!) MLS team: I'm told Kei Kamara is being traded to #MNUFC for a package including allocation money and a draft pick.Big pickup for the Loons, who needed forward depth and land the fifth all-time leading scorer in #MLS history.More details here:https://t.co/jOsggjQ4RO— Ives Galarcep (@SoccerByIves) September 18, 2020 EDIT: I'm guessing the concept of a mortgage (hell, a multiyear lease) is entirely foreign to Kamara.
Well, we can throw Colorado into the racist camp since they're ditching Kamara. Time to go cancel them on Twitter.
Excellent move for Kei and Minnesota. Incredible that in his age 36 season the man is still in high demand. An all time MLS great.
This has to be a record. This is a guy who is fifth in all time MLS scoring just behind Jaime Moreno and Jeff Cunningham. 129 frikking goals. And nobody wants him for more than a year or two. Nine goddam teams. Its stunning. He must be the biggest pain in the ass ever. In a league that is desperate for goal scorers he can't hold down a job.
I always thought he was crazy to want to leave (or force an exit from) the Crew. Berhalter's system maximized his talent.
I wonder if this actually a record? Kei has been on 12 teams, including 2 stints w/ The Crew , in 16 years of professional soccer.
It's wild. A guy this good having this much trouble being able to play nice with others is so disappointing. Either he just gets bored incredibly quickly and can't sit still, or he truly is the biggest pain in the ass in league history. Hope Solo probably looks at Kei Kamara and thinks he has issues.
Just saw that Minnesota gave Colorado $150,000 in allocation money and a second round draft pick.two years from now. So basically nothing. Also, officially Kamara has tied one other player by playing for 8 teams: our old pizza-hair freind, Dom Oduro. The caveat is that since Kamara played in CBus twice, you could argue that he was on 9 teams.
Kei Kamara is a jackass. His BS heart shaped hands goal celebration has lost all meaning with his inability to stay with any club.
That's MLS Humanitarian of the Year Kei Kamara. Beats me why he changes teams so often but it's not unprecedented. He's an older player nobody is going to build their team around but he can still score goals so a team like MNUFC brings him in to benefit from their new playmaker. I've chatted with him on occasion during both stints here and always found him a friendly, engaging person. And Pipa should have handed the ball to Kei for the PK.
I thought Dominic also played for us twice, but I guess I was confusing that with us trading Dominic for Dilly Duka, who is also still playing. Interesting sidenote: Dilly Duka is on a second stint with FC Motown, which is not a Detroit team, but one based out of Morristown, NJ. Back to Dominic: It'd be great if we could dump Papa John's. We got them partially because of Dominic, or at least it's too good a coincidence.
