Good for Austin to sell 15,500 in tickets. This seems like a valid realistic number for them to achieve, but I'm still confused on several fronts.

I'm confused as to why they insist on adding that 44k number for deposits? Are they still trying to claim that 29k people still want season tickets? wtf? Why didn't they build a 40k stadium then? I thought I read somewhere in the twitter~verse that they were so encouraged that they are adding 1,500 seats, upping the max to 22k. Again good for them. But way to nerf how much the city can be exposed to their new product by limiting the seating capacity to half.

Unless... Austin is really more like a lateral move from Columbus. Same -mmetro size, same -mcapitol of a state, same - large university who dominates the sports market, same... Who is also building a 20k stadium, and who is also projecting to selling out the 1st year.

I also love the article from Cina-********in-nati claiming Precum is a genius for moving. But it really feels like the exact same thing is happening at his old place.

    and... ******** Precourt.

Austin hires Healey, but while in Columbus he hires Sika?

So the owners are still cool with a guy who was blatantly sabotaging a team in their league and costing them money by doing so?

Could we call this big time, real professional soccer club, move by AFC an Austin Healey? I am sure Adrian will be sucking quite a bit of cash out of predork's Yeti money clip.[IMG]

Yes. Or maybe Neil moved over from Radio when Duncan Oughton left to work for TFC. I can't remember if Oughton left before or after the Buttmunch took over.

Don't really care who he hires down there. So far, I'm impressed with the new regime's hire of Jordan Angeli.

I've never cared for Healey. I think it goes back to when he did NE Revs games. Anyway, he's fine, and certainly has a better resume than Sika, who I thought was fine on the radio, but just doesn't cut it on TV. I do hope the Crew ups its game on the broadcast front next year. Angeli's a fine addition, but we really could do better on the PBP front.

Swap Doran for Sika. I thought Chris was excellent paired with Jordan last game, and Sika can go back to reading player cv's on radio.

As for Healey, he's clearly holding TwoJokes up for a big payday and a splashy promotion because they figure they need a name. It's the same pattern we saw with Reyna, who left New York a step ahead of the axe, and Josh Wolff, who has never been a head coach for one single game, ever, in his life.

Slimy McC*ntface doesn't know or care about soccer, never has. He hires names that he thinks will make it look like they're big time and impress the utterly clueless, ignorant maroons down in Austin.

That outfit is going to really, really suck.

Has Austin announced a TV deal?

It would be very Precourt to hire a big name broadcast professional and then have an absolutely garbage broadcast partner so that no one can watch the games.

Didn't MLS announce something about no teams negotiating local TV deals past 2020? Something along those lines? Or am I imagining it?

I believe they said past 2021, as the national broadcast deal expires then and needs to be negotiated for 2022 and the feeling is that they want to expand the national package and don't want any local deals to hamper their ability.

I'd actually be happy if Prime was our local broadcast partner, with an OTA option inside the metro area.

It will be hilarious if/when they can't spend on quality DPs because they blew their budget on these three guys.

Bit of a side tangent but the realization hit me over the weekend that despite not having traditional cable I now am complaining about having to have so many streaming packages to get what I want.

Once I graduated college, I never had cable and was just a really early adopter of streaming services + illegally watching sports for years. At the marketplace for streaming has caught up now its so fragmented on who holds what rights that you have to piecemeal it together which is still better than traditional cable bundling.

Old me would be laughing at myself today as I use to complain about the bundling of TV and the desire to just pay for the things I want. Well I got it and now I have like 10 different services.

    Same.

But I'd much rather pay for the 7 streaming services I have and want than the firehose of crap I don't want that traditional cable/satellite offers.

This x10000. Despite all the services I pay for its at least things I want vs all the random tv channels that I never watch.

We'll see just how far it fragments.... How many different services will be too many? And will that fragment the audience too much and thus what they are worth to an advertiser?

There's lots of things I enjoy. Aussie Football is one. I'll watch that (and thus am part of the audience that attracts ads). But it's not something I'd buy a separate service for.

I'm still trying to decide on the Bundesliga.

Yeah, this is where I'm at as well. Would rather pay $25-30 less for a bunch of little streaming packages than cable.

These are all sports. I don't want nor watch very much sports, and the sports I do watch are included in the services I subscribe to.

The wife and I are trying not to subscribe to a service just to watch one thing - there isn't a TV show currently on that's worth $8/month. Whole network/studio/distributor catalogs though? Absolutely worth it.

I'll use Star Trek as my other example then. I'm still on the fence about it. Or Prime--some good stuff, or so I've heard, on Prime. But....

I'm guessing my Yankee forefathers (not to mention the Scots ones) had an influence on me....;):D

Is Flo Sports still around? IIRC, they're based in Austin and since they once had the DCU contract, they seem like a natural for FC Broccoli.

    It appears so! They claim:
    25 different sports
    !!

I invite you to view the whole list. Not padding the number at all, no sir!
