don't we all? it's a shame dutch or belgian clubs don't hook up with MLS as our young guys could develop properly and safely
Wien is not a team used to hanging in mid-table. They're set to upgrade, their fans are used to them being one of the Top 3 in Austria, nay, the Top One.
On the bench for Austria Wien's league opener at LASK Linz. It's 1-0 to the hosts late in the second half. EPB is still on the bench.
Four subs already, five minutes left, no EPB. I'm afraid he may be only depth to the Madi-Maudo pair.
Maudo (who is younger than EPB) was mainly on Wien II. Today he went 90. No EPB today, they lost 1-0.
There were reports that he wasn't going to appear yet: Sounds like EPB, who extended his loan at Austria Wien, joined team training late and isn't quite ready for today's matchup with LASK.Die Veilchen's manager Peter Stöger said they are being careful with a focus on making sure he's healthy and fit in the long-run. https://t.co/57I3SgkEvb— Yanks Abroad (@usmnt_abroad) September 11, 2020
It's the first game of the season FFS!! As for any Madl-Maudo "pair", this is Maudo's seventh league game out of the last 36 and four of those were garbage minutes If you want to talk about him forming a "pair", "pairing" or "duo" with Madl, come back to us when they've started 10 out of 12 games together.
Of course he's going to get his chance, I bet the conditions of the loan stipulate that he must be used in at least some games. But Wien is not going to afford him, and chances are they rather develop their academy guy. And, frankly, they looked better than in last season's LASK away game, where EPB played 90 and they lost 2-0. We shall see.
It's said that the problem with creating a persona is that it ends up taking over your critical faculties, and @Suyuntuy is starting to look like Exhibit A. Every time you think "hmm, very perceptive" this persona he's created steps in and demands feeding. Multiple feedings. There are any number of reasons why EPB didn't play, with @BostonRed 's winning the Occam's Razor test. Other realistic options that don't involve world-weary "he's washed up already" pronouncements would include EPB carrying a knock or a strain, the coach wanting to rotate his squad after last season, Maudo looking great in training (which means EPB will have to step up his game), tactical variations for this game not suiting EPB, etc. No, the reason he was on the bench is because, despite earning an automatic starter place for all of last season and the club having specifically set aside a fair chunk of their wage budget (guys from Chelsea's and City's loan armies do not come cheap) he is - on the basis of riding the pine in a single game - only depth to an experimental pairing.
Dunno about them looking better than last season, but "Maudo" a) isn't a product of Wien's academy but of Gil Vicente's and b) his family name, which is the name on his shirt, is Jarjue. Maudo is his first name. As for not being able to afford him, maybe they still can't but Stoger, who was the Sporting Director last season and is the coach now, wouldn't have wanted him back and set aside a fairly substantial sum by Austrian BL standards for his wages if there was the slightest chance that he'd be depth for a guy they got on a free from Azerbaijan.
To wrap this argument up with a nice bow, EPB starts today. Diese 1⃣1⃣ schickt Peter Stöger in das heutige Bundesliga-Heimspiel gegen @svried1912! ________________________#faklive #faksvr pic.twitter.com/1IhbDJ2bc1— FK Austria Wien (@FKAustriaWien) September 20, 2020
2-1 win. EPB's stats look excellent. 8 for 10 on aerial challenges, 10 for 12 on duels, 6 defensive recoveries, 89% pass completion, 4 for 4 on long balls.
He was given his shot to shine and did it. Maudo came in for Madi and scored an own-goal, too. That's not going to help him.
