I think it's about time to start a thread. I'm hearing that teams are going to start playing some tournaments and competitions against local teams, and they will eventually progress to a league season at some point. MLS will eventually announce their plans for the new academy league. I named this thread Academy season instead of MLS Academy season because there's still some uncertainty on when the MLS Academy season will start, and some of the clubs that were traditionally in the DA will not be in the MLS Academy set-up. Use this thread to talk about all 2020-2021 season academy-related news. There's still a thread for larger discussions about development. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/ussf-development-academy-3-0.2104874/#post-37942597
@TheFalseNine, can you please unsticky the 2019-20 DA thread and stick this one instead? Thank you! Here is some news from Atlanta United. Introducing our 2020-21 Academy Teams! #UniteAndConquer pic.twitter.com/FWzBimdy0f— ATLUTD Academy (@AcademyATLUTD) September 4, 2020
I’ve talked to a few academy directors and they’re only playing friendlies for now. The academy league may officially start in November but it’s unknown. With high school sports now actively happening there is no reason that the academy league of higher level athletes shouldn’t be
The Arizona teams are playing 6 “official” games starting in a couple weeks through mid November, only against each other. I put official in quotes because I’m not sure really how meaningful the results are if half the teams nationally can’t play. If California opens to official games at some point then they will be added to their schedule. I don’t think it much matters at this point if any of the games are official or not. The kids are all so ready to be playing the friendlies look like real games in terms of effort.
Alec Kenison (‘03) is moving from San Diego Surf to Columbus Crew. He’s a generic LB, but not a bad player. Columbus seemed to have Anton Sorensen at LB with their affiliate Crew Wolves and he played for their team as a guest player, but with his move to the Union, they have now signed a replacement in Kenison from the same age group. Not as good of a player, but he’s among the better LB’s in his age group.
IMPORTANT MLS new youth league launch is scheduled for tomorrow at 3pm Here is the YouTube link for the livestream:
Red Bull Academy preview with rosters. I have younger than u-15 but don’t like to cover that much. Usually start watching u-14’s in the spring https://redbullhub.net/2020/09/06/new-york-red-bulls-academy-2020-season-preview-part-two/
Thanks it’s night and day how much more accommodating the Red Bull are at the academy level under the new leadership
This says the schedule will be released "shortly". https://www.mlssoccer.com/mlsnext/competitions Did we learn a single thing from this announcement that we didn't already know? I only paid attention to half of it and haven't delved into every nook and cranny of the website.
Nope this was all for the players and parents to get them excited. Will be interesting if rosters end up public like the DA
Does anyone have matches loaded into their player’s gotsport/ https://www.mlsplayerdevelopment.com account? I think they’ll be in there first.
Yes, rostered players are invited by their club. Once logged in, they can update all their info and upload signed docs. There’s a location for upcoming matches and events.
We’ve already been dealing with that some teams don’t release numbers for players, so we’ll all manage. I don’t see why they wouldn’t though. It’s not just for fans. It helps scouts, college coaches with recruiting, parents to have a readily available list of numbers for everyone.
Total DFW domination at the Premier Supercopa national championships this past week (U10 to U13 levels). FCD, Texans, and Solar all took home titles!!! I was surprised by the number of teams that traveled from around the country to the event. These championships are held in Dallas, so the DFW teams do have substantial "home field advantage." Champions on Supercopa FCD09! Congratulations and happy for Juanito! pic.twitter.com/NmqDo1b7u4— TeamCarrera (@TeamCarreraZ) September 7, 2020
Yes, Juan. Still a young'un, though. There's even a daughter, Ana, that plays the sport as well. Their father's twitter feed is my source for all things Carrera. https://twitter.com/carreraj2006?lang=en
https://league-mp7static.mlsdigital.net/elfinderimages/MLSNEXT/MLS-NEXT-Week1Schedule.pdf Here is the first week’s schedule. Hopefully it won’t be a weekly PDF but I’m pretty excited to go watch the Crew/Wolves games
I don't see how this won't become the end of HG territories. They are now bending on all but the last step, which is signing the player. This is also an MLS run academy league, so Garber's office signed off on all of this. Club territory is dead - “No Club has exclusive territory rights. Clubs may recruit players for participation on Clubs from any geographic region.”— 3rd Degree (@3rdDegreeNet) September 8, 2020
