All rumors for now. It pretty crazy to go after him and not go for Velez or anyone who was recently coaching a team. But then again FEF goes about doing everything wrong...

It really sucks being this long with out knowing who our coach is gonna be. There trowing names out left and right. I think the Aguinaga rumor died down a bit. Havent seen any sites mention it again. They just threw Hector Cupers name today. Thoughts on him ?

I want an Ecuadorian coach honestly. Tired of coaches that don’t know or love Ecuador and it’s players. My favorite would be Velez, if not, my other favorite is Zambrano. I don’t see Aguinaga as NT material either and I doubt FEF does as well.

I think both Ecuadorian coach deserve to be our NT and be given an opportunity. I can’t think of anyone else I’d want other than Bauza, but I doubt that they’ll call him.

We need a good coach though because I think we have good talent coming up. Can’t let it go to waste.

Zambrano hasnt been rumored at all for some reason he was actually doing well when he coached Canada but was still unfairly sacked for some reason. There was one rumor saying he had alot of issues in the locker room but no proof. Every player and source I looked up stated the opposite so I guess it was just bad luck that most Ecuadorian coaches run into.

We are getting alot of rumors tho. Cuper,Pizzi, Almada, Almeyda if this is true we might be finally heading into the right direction in terms of a good foreign coach for our NT.

Apparently Cuper and Almada both accepted both Cuper doesn't want to live in Ecuador.

What's up with coaches not wanting to live in the country they're supposed to be coaching in? Sounds like an ego trip to me.

They probably dont want to be coaching those teams long term so that why they dont relocate like Cruyff. Any coach who says no to relocating that should be an immediate red flag and a deal breaker for me.

If they don’t want to live in Ecuador, then they shouldn’t be called up to coach the NT. They need to observe the players up close and interact with them as well. This is critical for Ecuador since we don’t have many players playing internationally. We’ll see but I hope we don’t make that mistake again. I agree it’s a major red flag as well.

That why you gotta give props to Celico. Only time he is not in the country is when he goes with the national team aboard for a match. He does so much scouting and microciclos half of the shit he does never gets on news outlets some of its only on ecuafutbol.org and there very little info on it. Some times I only find out that he been calling a player or working with them when they go aboard and start getting media attention.

If Celio were to leave the U20 I think we got a few good options.

    Eduardo Favaro
    Luis Soler
    Marcelo Zuleta

i think these guys would be great at youth for us.

I agree it's a major red flag if you don't want to live in the country. Shows the lack of commitment and it will reflect on the team as well.

Celico has been a blessing to us in the youth sector and I think he should stay there since he scouts really well.

I prefer Almada since he knows the country and he's not rigid with tactics. He'll change formation if needed.

Almada just said no to FEF 1.8 M offer he wants approximately 3.3M in salary. Lmao I had high hope on the way he reacted to the rumors that he would be willing to come no matter what. We are pretty broke so I know Almada is waiting on a counter offer from FEF but i really dont know how they can afford to throw any more money than that.

Cuper is our second option the rumor that said he didnt want to live in Ecuador was a lie some news out lets said that he discarded that rumor.

Almeyda stated that he wanted to continue in MLS. So i guess he is off the list.

Almeyda would have been great but he will not leave from here (Bay Area) for sure.

I think Almada will be the coach once Ecuador counter offers. If he doesn’t accept then, I don’t know who would be a good coach.

One of Chiri guys said that was a lie lmaooo

If Rafael Correa really did make FEF change the coach due to his Emelec favoritism he made a big mistake. Once Quintero left Emelec that was the end of their good Copa Libertadores run and they had everything going for them to reach the finals. And then he also at fault for us not going to Russia.

But yea we had our chance to get him to late now. We also had Gareca on our list of candidates back then. Any one remember that? FEF really messed up there.

So... I guess no Almada from what I’m reading in the news. Who’s a good option now?

Apparently we're linked to Gustavo Alfaro now but I personally do not like him.

He never stays long in a team and plays an ultra-defensive style.

    Hard pass for me.

    Seems like it's official now.

I hope Alfaro proves me wrong but his signing disappoints me.

What is going on?! The rumors are making this process so confusing to follow. Hopefully we can land someone good.

It's pretty much confirmed that Gustavo Alfaro is our new coach.

I hope he has an assistant who's good with attacking tactics since Alfaro himself focuses too much on defense.

Damn. Just read the news. What makes Alfaro better than Bauza?! Or even any good Ecuadorian coach?! He hasn’t won anything worthwhile and has gotten fired everywhere he has been from reading his profile.

I admit I have never paid any attention to any of his teams, but he lacks experience and pedigree to be considered a good coach. Time and time again it has been proven that if you’re not successful in the past (by winning tournaments), you’re not magically going to be a successful coach now. I highly doubt Alfaro will win anything with Ecuador at all or even qualify us to the World Cup. I hope I’m wrong 100% but I doubt it.

I guess Ecuador cannot compete with the big boys because they are broke af and cannot afford a good coach. Ecuador is just in a financial disaster (talking about the whole federation including club teams). This is even before Covid happened (have you guys been to the stadiums?! Just a horrible experience).

At least U20 should be fun to watch.
