As far as I know, it was loaned to the CSA but ownership resides with the Voyageurs. A member of the Voyageurs still actually does the presentation each year. So, as far as I know, you are correct and they could decide to award it a different way if they want to. I'm not sure what they would choose to do in that hypothetical case. Best record among the Canadian MLS teams? Among the CPL teams?
Possible news in the Canadian Championship Meanwhile the three Canadian MLS teams will determine an opponent using the scheduled MLS games. The team that gets the most points in the 9 games played between the teams over next two months will play the #CanPL winner in the Cup final,— Duane Rollins (@24thminute) August 1, 2020
Looks like TFC finally sent a list of players they are willing to loan but might be little too late at this point From what I've heard: TFC did, in the end, send a list of available players to the CPL. I would imagine there will be interest but teams would have had to act very quickly to meet quarantine requirements. #CanPL https://t.co/1hksjfL9Yr— Oliver Platt (@plattoli) August 3, 2020

Okay... The times for the weekday games seem super early... The weekend ones are whatever. But noon and 3 eastern for weekday games just seem crazy early..
Didn't MLS played in the morning? Not ideal but the league wanted to avoid UCL and NHL & NBA playoffs. If it wasn't for COVID, they'd only have CFL to work around. Going againstvNHL & Raptors playoffs on primetime is a sure way to fail if the goal is getting new fans. I love the league but there's no scenario where I choose CPL before Bayern vs Barca For casuals and curious, they aren't picking CPL over NHL or Raptors playoffs.
August 10th TFC II just loaned defenders Julian Dunn and Dante Campbell to Valour FC in time for the Island Games.
And the 9am ET games had absolutely horrible ratings. How does weekday games between noon and 3 on a paid service bring in new fans? Most people are going to be at work, or, since a lot of people are working from home, at least working. Even worse, some teams included OneSoccer memberships in their ST packages and, from what I’ve seen on Twitter, those memberships don’t include the Island Games since the games aren’t included in the CPL’s regular season. It’s also worth noting that the 3PM games are in direct competition with UCL games and the noon games are in competition with Europa League that includes ManU and Inter Milan. It just seems like CPL is pretty much setting themselves up for failure.
It doesn't. It will be the games on CBC that will be free on the weekend that will bring new fans. As for Onesoccer, the games will be made available within 3 hours from the end of the game on the same day and without spoiling results on their website. They will also be replays of the games in the evenings for those who are working during the day. That is true, Island games aren't included but those with ST will get their subscription benefits rollover to 2021. Not ideal but these are exceptional times and the subscription also covers all National team and Canadian championship games which means onesoccer is the only way to get the WCQ. They aren't competing against any Champions league games, I just checked and looks like Europa League switched to 3pm as well. So CPL games will be live 2 hours before them. Competing against NBA and NHL playoffs is setting themselves up for failure. There's just no way that this early, casuals and even fans would drop the Raptors or NHL hockey for CPL. You know my interest for CPL and there's no scenario where I pick CPL above a Raptors playoff game or Bayern vs Barca. Got to give them more credit than that because they know the market. Yes people working from home who have a subscription will most likely watch the odd weekday 1-m game right before Champions League but everyone else can see see the games on demand the same day right after work with no spoilers. In a normal year, they'd only have CFL to avoid
My app updated this morning, yeah I see the schedule conflicting on weekends my error. From what I heard, weekend is when they will be broadcast live on CBC which would explain it. There's not much they can do there as CBC is too great an opportunity to pass. Weekdays though, the league is avoiding them as much as they can. Worth nothing though, the only way to watch Champions League in Canada is via streaming service. Sure fans will pick UEFA live but the CPL game will be available shortly after those games.
They have listened to the feedback. They might make more changes to the schedule Schedule Update 🗓The #IslandGames will kick-off at 8 PM ET/6 PM MT with our rematch of last year's final between @ForgeFCHamilton and @CPLCavalryFC #CanPL l 📝: https://t.co/W8P7ttGtvA pic.twitter.com/rah8VbsaIZ— Canadian Premier League (@CPLsoccer) August 11, 2020 Could be more changes coming re: the daytime kick-offs in midweek. A CBC article on the Island Games. Understandably, it sounds like the players are happy to be playing at all. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/prince-edward-island/pei-soccer-players-arrive-cpl-season-1.5681368
It's awesome that they are responding to the feedback, but, tbh, it shouldn't have needed feedback. CPL should have known that shirting the start times for weekday games to the middle of the day to avoid other leagues is generally going to be more harmful than helpful..
Great move by the league who will make games available for free on CBC and streaming every Saturdays. Thats their window to get new fans and show the league from coast to coast. 2-2 draw between Forge and Cavalry. Very entertaining game, Forge settled in as the game progressed. Forge has way more depth and it showed later in the game
If we are going to start putting results in this thread, it needs to be renamed with an [R] in the title for results in case people are saving the game to watch later. That is standard convention in Big Soccer.
Forge vs Cavalary wasn't going to show us anything we didn't know. I'm more interested in Pacific vs Wanderers tonight. Both clubs have had big changes.
