If her play last season wasn’t an anomaly, I would play Beckie at right back before switching one of Greenwood or Stokes. She was pretty darn good offensively from full back. And Morgan’s constantly gotten ripped apart for her Pride play outside of 2017. Lavelle’s club form isn’t due to being pulled out for camps. She’s had frequent injury issues and often doesn’t look like the same player when she plays for Washington in my opinion. Her place in the Guardian’s list was solely due to the World Cup; the WSL is not international football. If you factored in her club play, which should have been, she arguably wouldn’t have even been in the top 25 of that list. Maybe I’m being too harsh/cynical, but there are legitimate reasons to not get overly excited about a Lavelle signing.
I'm the only one here mainly using Lavelle's NWSL play instead of her USWNT play as a gauge for potential level in the WSL, and I got mocked for taking issue with someone claiming that Kristie Mewis is just as good as Sam Mewis. (They were looking at the older Mewis as a MU Women target.) I guess I just have some controversial views.
Lavelle is very talented but fragile--and, yes, she's done very little for her club team, Washington, in two/three years. I think she hardly played her first two years owing to hamstring and other injuries. Indeed, the big-name national team players for the U.S. seem to have become prima donnas, and some of them have rarely been on the field for their clubs.
Well, I know the play hasn’t been great as a whole at the Challenge Cup, but apart from the first game, Lavelle wasn’t exactly noteworthy, and she again had fitness issues/concerns. I like Lavelle’s game; I just don’t see the incentive for City to really go after her. Of course, if this goes through, maybe Lavelle will prove me wrong. She does have the ability.
In any case, more U.S. players should join FA WSL since they are not going to play anymore other games in the states this year. Might as well play there. And play against some of the best players in the world AND against players that never played outside the FA WSL. Should help boost attendance next season. Wonder when their season starts.
Need more confirmation on this but I’ve read Everton had just signed France’s NT starting striker Viv Gauvin. she’s transferring from Montpelier
Nah, you usually give it plenty of consideration. Also, it's genuine, which helps a lot. Ireland: Genuine soccer! The WNL is a week away from kicking off after the virus delay, the first women's games in the UK or Ireland AFAIK. With the league and cup schedule running from 8 Aug until 13 Dec, this tenth season of the Women's National League sees 17 veteran players who were also there in 2011. Champions Peamount kick off against Limerick's newly renamed Treaty United (HONOUR THE TREATY) and Peamount, with striker Eleanor Ryan, will enter the Champions League. 2020 Season Preview | Peamount United youtube.com/watch?&v=jJCOeC0h008 Northern Ireland is also scheduled to start in August, a shortened 2020 campaign beginning on 26 Aug. https://www.nifootballleague.com/news/2020/july/danske-bank-womens-premiership-returns-next-month/ Scotland: The biggest structural change of all – the SWPL switches from its summer-based season to a winter one, 2020/21. FA confirmed that England will NOT take part in the She Believes Cup(serious blow to the US as it was the last remaining #10 opponent left last time around) FA is trying to push WSL games to be scheduled later on in the day, even on weekends, hoping it will attract a larger/world wide audience ala the Premier league. newbies Aston Villa are doing their part in trying to be competitive; 4 German players signed & one Danish international named Stine Larson who’s got 45 caps/13 goals to her credit for Denmark. The biggest German player is Lisa Weiss, who came from Lyon, though played for them in limited capacity. there’s one report out that with all the international transfers coming into the WSL their projecting only 55% of the players will be Brits(this includes all 4 contingents?) one good news for England is that their own, Rachel Daly, won the MVP in the recent NWSL Challenge Cup. One thing of possible note; her team which won the tourney, the Houston Dash, had the least amount of possession of the ball(per game) of all 8 team’s entered. Could this finally be studied & want to be duplicated by WSL & ENG’s NT instead of possession hungry & play from the back style we’re so used to seeing from them?(at least something to think about, lol)
I mean Daly was great, and I liked a lot of what I saw from Groom (i.e. favorite goal and second favorite assist across the whole tournament). However, the Dash also only had four points from four matches in the group stages, and they relied on a keeper who has an abnormally good record on penalties to get to the semifinals. Maybe something can be taken from the semifinal and final, but counter attacking/direct football isn't exactly a new phenomenon. Pretty sure WSL clubs and the England WNT are aware of its merits.
Chelsea also press very high on the pitch. They can hurt anyone when the win the ball either in the opposition defensive third or in the middle of the pitch. All their forwards are extremely mobile and strong technically. And as much as they change and interchange thier attacking players, the defense is quite stable ie : Berger; Mjelde, Bright, Eriksson, Anderson; Ingle. The five players in front of them are rotated heavily.
To be fair, most of the lower end clubs are going to bunker vs the super ones, at least Sam Kerr’s debut, Reading came charging upfield & we were able to see some nice counters Rachel Daly just tweeted she wants to go on loan to play in the WSL, Her family lives in northern England, so possibly most like Man City/U rather than the London clubs.....
https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/new-home-bristol-city-women-4398573 New home for Bristol City Women ahead of the 2020/21 Super League season https://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation...official-guro-reiten-extends-chelsea-contract Official: Guro Reiten extends Chelsea contract 8 A well-deserved reward for a phenomenal debut season Guro Reiten, come on down! After Bethany England and Erin Cuthbert agreed to contract extensions, Guro Reiten, who arrived at Chelsea just last summer, has now done the same. Reiten’s new deal is good through 2023. This is fantastic news not only because she had a remarkable debut season, but because Chelsea are quite clearly increasing players’ salaries as reward for a terrific season. Contract details are not public, so I cannot confirm this, but there are only a few logical reasons why you would extend the contract of a player who just played one season (also it would be silly for that player to agree to extend for the exact same terms). Paying great players for being great is good.
They certainly have increased her wages after her excellent season. Chelsea are definitely increasing their budger year on year. Their target next season is to win the Champions League,
Not sure if Reiten can remain a starter with Leupolz & Fleming transferring into the squad plus Kirby returning from an long absence(all three are mids). At least Reiten plays outside, so Ji might have more to loose
She has to at least be a starter to begin the season in my opinion. She was elite last season, especially in January. As you mention, those three players are all central players while Reiten is a flank player. Don’t see Ji not being a starter either.
they might of finished this season in 6th place & lost Chloe Kelly, but Everton been quietly building a team that would be competing for 3rd place in the other strong leagues in Europe(Spain, France & Germany) here's their current roster Women | Everton Football Club which includes 2 French NT's; Clameron & Gauvin(with the latter the starting central striker for Diacre), Australia's Haley Raso. the Dutch van Es, Norway's Mo Wold, Finland's Korpela(starting K for Bayern Munich for a few years) arguably Northern Ireland's best player in Magil, 2 Danish NT's. On the English side they got NT's in Izzy Christenson & Gabriele George as we as Sandy Macliver who had a great career at Clemson U I can see them giving Man U a run for their money for 4th & possibly in striking distance of the big 3
Emma Hayes will rotate a lot in attack, she has the following players available for 6 places in her 4-4-2: Ingle, Leupolz, Ji, Reiten, J Fleming, C Fleming, Charles, Napier, Spence, England, Kirby, Kerr

Leupolz is highly versatile, played the flanks when Germany won the Olympics. Can play either DM, AM, or even CB as Germans do like to inter-change positions during a game. Doesn’t mean she’s the greatest in any of the areas, in fact hadn’t been in that much favor with the current NT coach, MVT. and probably only started last game(vs Sweden at Algarve Cup) due Däbritz being out. Commitment might be an issue too, since word is she wanted to move to England cuz her fiancée, Sami Khedira, was suppose to get picked up by an Premier club based in London, so far it hasn’t happened. Reiten did play the #10 for Norway’s NT at the Algarve Cup, but it’s hard to say if she was very good at it; they got clobbered by the German B squad, but then, Norway doesn’t seem to be a well balanced NT(I mean like several of their starters can’t even start for their respective pro clubs)
You must have mentioned that Nor-Ger Algarve game at least ten times now in various threads to prove different points. As if that game was an end all, be all of all football matches when it comes to defining teams and players strength.
Bauser, you should know by now that @hotjam2 has always had this habit of putting exceeding weight on single matches, unconcerned of the contradictions that could ensue when subsequent results refuse to accord with them. I could create some new jokes about that, but I guess the best is quoting myself from an answer I had directed to him on the US boards :
looks like they might name England's new GM by next week, New England manager could be announced next week as Lionesses plan for life after Phil Neville | NewsChain not a bad time to do it before the WSL season starts if it's a club coach instead of Ellis a bit unfair cuz if only Norway won, you would of mentioned it ten times over Algarve Cup, friendlies? maybe, but the US fired one coach(Sermanni) over poor results as well at the simliar She Believes Cup led to 2 coaches loosing their jobs(Jones & Neville). That's more we've seen fired than after the last World Cup.
I was talking about their traditional/optimal positions, but fair enough on Leupolz's versatility. Reiten's surely playing on the flank again next season. She's way too good out there, and Chelsea are spoiled for options at CM/CAM with Ji, Kirby, Fleming, and Leupolz. (Not football related, but if it wasn't an unintentional autocorrect, fiancé/fiancée misuse is one of my pet peeves.)
