Started in a friendly against PSG for Waasland-Beveren, a 2nd tier Belgian squad:

If this dude gets minutes in Belgium's top division this coming season, surely it would represent one of the more improbable recent YA journeys. I'd read the magazine article for sure.

Here's a highlight video published not too long ago. I haven't watched it all yet, but there's a particularly nice sequence that starts around 0:50 in which he makes a very challenging play look almost .... well, you know.

It would be particularly improbable because Waasland-Beveren were just relegated to the second division!

I confess I don't follow Belgian matters closely -- I was just going off the tweet shared above. And I'm also not going to look into it any further.

Even though they were relegated last season they are in the top flight again since they sued the league and as a result the league now has 18 teams in it including them.

Believe it or not, they are actually in the Belgian top tier, despite finishing last in the shortened 2019-20 season:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020–21_Belgian_First_Division_A

Waasland-Beveren was bottom of the league when the season was prematurely stopped in March. With one game left to play Waasland-Beveren could theoretically at least have stayed up had they have won their last game of the season and the team next to bottom in the league KV Oostende have lost their. Consequently the East Flemish club did all it could to try and overturned what it considered to be an unfair decision to relegate it. Its efforts have now been rewarded.

I am 99% sure he recorded an assist on the 3rd goal and that fotmob is wrong and I think that he played in the initial cross that led to the 1st goal as well, but the stream I was watching was not very high quality so I could be wrong about both.

If you look carefully, you'll note the attacker's subtle and clever decision to stroll downfield completely unguarded for 50 meters or so until the four defenders who might theoretically have thought to do something about it realize suddenly there's a guy on the other team with the ball at their penalty box. Absolute masterclass.

Yes, folks, insights like these are free. What a website! ;)

Soccer is a really simple game except for all the rules for how to figure out who wins.

Joe Efford scores on his birthday! The ball came straight in front of his feet and could score one of the easiest goals of his career! #wbeohl
