The BLM protests have entered a new phase. Team Trump is at least using personnel not trained for this duty to create violence and burnish his law and order campaign theme. At worst, it's a dress rehearsal for disrupting the campaign in September and October, and maybe even voting in November. I'm heartened that in Portland the tactic has unquestionably backfired, as the Wall of Moms and Wall of Vets have fought back and created its own narrative. But I think this is going to be an ongoing story because Barr and Trump are proto-fascists. One of the sadder aspects is that he's creating intergovernmental conflict at a time (COVID) when we need intergovernmental cooperation.
I have seen a lot of right twitterstan calling the protests "riots" and using that as the reason for the troops being there. I'm guessing that's how Fox News is covering the protests - I mean, you have to put down rioters, they're not going to put themselves down, are they?
It also backfires as multinationals look at this unrest and consider pulling investment out of areas where there is continual violence, whether state sponsored or not.
Now the brownshirts are coming to Detroit, Milwaukee, and Cleveland. Stay well, @Kazuma and @soccernutter .
I was trying to figure out why Trump is sending stormtroopers to Milwaukee, of all places. I mean, has there been trouble there that I hadn't heard about or something? And then I remembered that the Democratic convention is scheduled to be happening there and it all makes sense.
"Look at the big brain on Brad!" If the police in those cities could be counted on, the mayors should order the police to arrest them for unlawful assembly.
