Well, now it's on to OB Odense (derived from Odins Vé, meaning "Odin's sanctuary" ) a city first mention in a letter dated 18 March 988 send by the Holy Roman Emperor Otto III, but with archaeological excavations in the vicinity showing proof of over 4,000 years old settlements. The Vikings built numerous fortifications along the river banks to defend it against invaders, but today, Odense is the 3rd largest city in Denmark with a population of around 180,000. But otherwise known for the author Hans Christian Andersen, a prolific writer of plays, novels, poems and writer of music, but mainly remembered for his fairy tales, like 'The Little Mermaid', "The Snow Queen" (aka Disney's 'Frozen'), 'The Emperor's New Clothes', "The Ugly Duckling", and 'The Little Match Girl'
OB Odense have eliminated Randers (1-2 and 2-0) in the Quarter-finals and AC Horsens (3-1 and 1-1) in the Semi-final play-off's for the last Europa League spot. They will now be facing AGF Aarhus away in Aarhus in the one leg play-off Final.
Great Odense’s Raven! Emmanuel Sabbi moves to OB. Yes, this is an Anchorman reference, you’re welcome.
Good new interview from Sabbi at Odense: https://www.instagram.com/p/CD4aHGChu_J/ Thread title change? @bungadiri Sabbi is the new OG at OB Odense
Perhaps some of the Sabbi footage above was made before OB Odense had played the one leg play-off Final against AGF Aarhus for an Europa League spot, because Sabbi do not make it quite clear that AGF won and OB did not make it ... below are the highlights from the play-off Final that despite of Corona virus restrictions, was allowed an attendance of 8,247. Unfortunately non will be allowed in the Europa League games played in Denmark due to UEFA wanting equal rules for all of Europa and so do not want to accept the rules in Northern European countries that do not suffer as much. Still, if you are an American living and playing in Denmark, like Sabbi, you may be worried about your family and friends at home, but your are not going to feel as much in danger or restricted as you probably would elsewhere in the World. Here in Denmark "only" 17 people below the age of 60 has so far died of a Corona related illness, of which 12 had at least one serious life threatening disease (lung, heart, liver and so forth) that was the reason they died, but with the Corona virus perhaps being the last "nail" and pushing them over the edge so to speak, the last 5 apparently had some undiscovered hidden illnesses, which was much the same during the Spanish Flue, where for some reason, not all that many people died here in Denmark in compare with the rest of the World. The reason back then probably being that Denmark did not participate in WW1 and being the land of "milk and honey" in Europe also did not suffer from food shortage or a vitamin deficiency, or at least this is the most likely theory :
Sounds like he might start on Monday: It was an order from physical trainer Janus Blond to get Emmanuel Sabbi to stop kicking on goal after the end of training for fear that an injury would break up. Sabbi was out with a minor injury against AC Horsens, but now there is hope that the American can start inside on the right wing on Monday at. 15.00 at Nature Energy Park towards Brøndby. https://fyens.dk/artikel/sabbi-virker-klar-til-en-startplads
Started for Odense but was subbed out after just 30 minutes https://www.ob.dk/nyhedsarkiv/ob-maatte-aede-nederlag-trods-dominans/ The match recap mentions him a couple times and it looks like he had few nice plays but no mention on why he was subbed out early was given Odense lost to Brøndby 2-1
Starts and scores in the first minute in today's match. He just came out at 60-minute mark with the score tied 1-1.
An interview from the club. This is Odense's Danish Superliga opener. Game starts at noon eastern. During 2019/2020, Sabbi registered 7 goals, 2 assists, and 10 yellow cards in 2,383 minutes (29 appearances including 28 starts) in the Superliga (including play in the Relegation Round and the Relegation playoffs) with Hobro IK. Hobro IK were relegated after losing that relegation playoff. They finished 12th in the regular season and third in relegation round Group B. He also had a yellow card in 90 minutes (1 start) in the Danish Cup. Odense were eliminated in the second round. @bungadiri @TheFalseNine Emmanuel Sabbi at Odense BK.
ob up 2-0 now He's had some great runs and has played well, beautiful touch around his defender and was in on goal, almost scored but FCK's GK made a really good save from a shot outside the box edit - so close. header off a FK but the GK makes another great save
3-0 up at halftime against a team that was 23 points better than them at the league split last season. That's a hell of a start to a season for Odense.
Probably should have done a bit better on his third chance as he seemed to get the ball stuck in his feet as he entered the box. He did do well to win a rebound in the box and keep the play alive on that same sequence. Commentator is full of praise for him being a nuisance. He definitely looks dangerous on the break and has won the ball a couple times defensively. Also he cleared the ball of the line with a header off a free kick earlier in the half. On side note, this might be the first game I've watched where the team starting Jørgen Skjelvik looks more competent defensively.
FCK have been looking terrible since the Europa League Quarter Final vs. Man United, that they lost 0-1 AET a month ago ... I think their shorter summer break between then and now makes them look tired and out of shape, they also lost 1-3 at home to newly relegated Silkeborg in preseason.
I tuned in right before the sub, unfortunately. However, FCK is definitely trying to mount a respectable comeback and have cut it to 3-2 for now.
