must not have been fulltime yet when i saw that score, though i could've sworn it was. conceding five, though. crikey.

    as to this:

... i couldn't agree more. it's preposterous. they'll not be simply administering a penalty, they'll be condemning or reprieving. either way, someone will be justifiably pissed. because someone's going down, and it won't be seen as determined by results, but by the the EFL's administrators. it's a farce.

The match was over long before you posted your "result".

Wednesday concede the winner (1-2) to 'boro in the 93rd minute in the League's final day. This means they finish the season on 56 points, with Charlton 21st on 48. Ergo, any points deduction of 9 or more points will send Wednesday down to the 3rd tier.

Wednesday have taken only 17 points from their last available 69 (23 games). Only 1 home win from their last 12 at Hillsborough. To say they've been shit in the second half of the season is a massive understatement. The unfairness of an unknown points deduction hanging over them is rather undermined by the wretchedness of those numbers. It's hard to argue that they should stay up, however bullshit the EFL has been about the deduction.

The only thing scarier than keeping Monk or any of his staff is the thought of Chansiri starting with a clean slate.

Charlton is 22nd. It may seem like finishing below 21st makes you 22nd, but 21st place Barnsley moves up to 20th if you get a penalty to fall behind them, and one position below Barnsley will be 21st and survive if that happens. I wonder if a league has ever relegated two clubs because of penalties in the same season.

Of course. My bad. I meant that they were in the top relegation position, but for some reason i said 21st instead of the correct 22nd. Me not smart.

Atdhe Nuhiu is done at Wednesday, apparently. I haven't sorted out whether he was offered another contract, but I'm guessing not. At any rate, good luck, Big Dave (though he supposedly doesn't like being called that), wherever you may go. He always put in a shift, and I've always been a fan. One of my favorites - perhaps my very favorite - of the Chansiri era.

i'm fine with him leaving. he wasn't the type of player that is going to get us out of this league.

True that. But then, if the players who should have been getting Wednesday out of that League (i.e., Bannan, Wallace, Hutch, etc.) over the last four years had shown the commitment of Atdhe, the job might well have got done.

... I was gonna throw Fletcher in there, but he's actually done the work, when healthy. I'd've been happy for him to have stayed. Still, not much to like player-wise during the Chansiri era, to my tastes.

A little unfair adding Wallace in that group, imho, he did have a couple injuries that slowed him down a bit.

Spot on for the rest. I have always disliked Hutch.

Just the kit clues. The video is titled "The numbers game: The past, present and future of football data, analysis and analytics." Do you like math? The World Football Summit (WFS) also has a video titled "Data in sports: How it can improve performance and help scouting" that I will read the transcript of later.

Ha! He gave it away before it even began. 150 years old really narrows it down. There aren't more than 5 ... 10 at most ... English professional clubs that old. Then he says 'a day of the week'. Well ... that wraps it up then, doesn't it?

    It was easy.

-12 to start next season and no relegation!

Wow. We probably will get relegated but still...

I really liked Wallace in his first season-plus. He's a capable footballer, and as stated, of the quality that should have - with similar quality in the squad - seen Wednesday into the top tier. But he, like those of 'similar quality', were/are highly inconsistent, and capable of showing a serious lack of fight/urgency/whatever-you-want-to-call-it.

There was a video posted on OA a few months back of Wallace doing an interview with some bloke in a pub. In it, he's talking about Carlos and how they (the players) had all had a laugh at some of the things he'd said/done. Wallace comes off as a nice enough fella ... decent to have a pint with. But that video showed (to me, anyway) everything that was wrong with the squad that Chansiri had built. No respect for the manager or the kind of 'team ethic' that is indispensable to success. It's quite possible that this is reading too much into one interview/conversation; but he didn't come off well, to me.

If I can find it, I'll have another look and post it.

    Got it.

To be fair, this is just a portion of a longer interview, in which the jocular, blokey mood had already been established. So maybe it's not reasonable to infer about his professionalism based on such a conversation. But coming right out and stating how they all laughed at both Chansiri and Carlos ... not later, in the pub, but right there in the room.

They come off more like a Sunday league team than highly paid professionals ... a comment which featured in more than a few post-match dialogues, as well.

    :D
Could've used subtitles, actually. It's trouble enough trying to understand a table full of Yorkshiremen at full tilt. Jocks I doubt I could manage, at all.
