Day 4 of isolation and people are getting really tense up here... 🤣 #CoronaVirus #YoMeQuedoEnCasa 🙏🏻 pic.twitter.com/oK0i6YK6Qk— Cesc Fàbregas Soler (@cesc4official) March 17, 2020
Joe Cole and Wayne Bridge are currently climbing a mountain for charity. And I'm talking some serious alpine type stuff. THey have a guide, but still.
Andre Schurle retired today. He's only 29 years old. Sounds like he just wasn't enjoying himself anymore. Getting loaned to Moscow will do that to you I guess
O wow, good for him. Enjoyed him while he was with us, scored that one stunner from THAT Fabregas pass.
Yeah very happy for him. Good player for us, scored a super memorable goal. Also won a world cup, and had the assist for the winner in the final. Sounds like he was on the verge of depression and got out with his happiness more or less intact. He has a young family as well, and as I said, he got shipped of to Moscow so was apart from them too. Get out when you can son
I’ve always been torn on this. Yes he’s made enough that if managed properly multiple generations will never have to worry about money. However, he’s easily got another 3-4 years of earning large sums of money for playing a game. Go see it through. Make as much as you can. Max your earnings then retire.
Meh, whatever comes next for him he certainly won’t be making nothing. No point in carrying on if your heart isn’t in it and you have the luxury to take a step back. Who knows, could have a change of heart at some point.
He could be it will need to be quick. No doubt he can make money doing a bunch of other things but it likely won’t be as well paid
I hear you. I think this is how I would handle it. Even if my heart weren't in it. But I'm a very even-keel guy by nature. People are different, and if he was legitimately on the verge of depression, I can understand the decision. Sounds to me from the interview like he properly weighed the pros and cons, and made the right decision for him.
For someone like Schurrle who has, as pointed out earlier, hit the hits of winning a world cup and assisting the winning goal, there's the prospect of that next 3-4 years being nothing close to those prior highs and a pro probably needs drive as much as talent. Not everyone is wired like Ronaldo. Ultimately we are judging on our baseline but our careers are, by and large, steady and long term and begun in our late teens, early 20's. Although only 29, Schurrle has been playing football his entire life and likely at the top rung of every stage, with all the pressures that come along with that. He probably feels he's about 20+ years into his career rather than 10+. If he feels he has earned enough to be comfortable, achieved what he wants and most of all feels like he needs a break, all power to him. I think the potential earnings for someone already well to do is likely much less of a consideration to us rent payers / mortgage holders. Good luck to him and whatever comes next. Coaching or otherwise.
No doubt man and honestly if he’s happy that’s all that matters. I just don’t think I could leave it. I’m the gut it out type of person.
For sure, me too. But I've seen friends (type a, driven people) just seemingly lose their drive one day when everything was lined up for them and couldn't hand on heart say that it couldn't happen to me. I'm glad more companies are really prioritizing wellbeing across all dimensions now (physical, social, financial and mental) and not just the physical. All are important.
Good read on Michael Emenalo and his time here. In the last few years I realized that he was trying to set up a system similar to Madrid, Ajax, Barca, and such that he mentions as much in the article. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...-white-is-good-has-to-change?CMP=share_btn_tw
De Bruyne was loaned to Werder Bremen but in 2014 Chelsea sold him to Wolfsburg. Did it make Emenalo howl with anguish when Chelsea jettisoned De Bruyne, Salah and Lukaku? “It was more painful for the owner. He suffered. But he saw that everything we had discussed was true.” ... Emenalo, in a stark and powerful interview, referred to Mourinho as “the individual”. He also chose the term “palpable discord” to describe the breakdown between manager and players. “It was not about José. It was letting people understand you can’t twist the narrative of a big club which had won the title the season before with the same players.” Smart man. It's easy for a lot of people to warp scenarios and rely on weak narratives to malign certain decisions. He got a lot right in his time with us and we're certainly reaping the benefits now.
He was the scapegoat in the Mourinho 2.0 debacle. He definitely had misses, but the vision was good and he had more hits. I'd be happy to get him back to be honest.
Ivano going Kepa (yeah i feel bad for piling on...,) https://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation...c-lifts-then-immediately-breaks-latest-trophy
Apparently Qatari side Al Gharaffa are interested in Cesc Fabregas. Would love for this to happen... the stadium is in walking distance from my house lol.... Got to see Juninho Pernumbachano and Wesley Schniejder all play there https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...fered-HUGE-payday-Qatari-club-Al-Gharafa.html
Good to see Mikel back in English football. Just joined Stoke on a free. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/53790842
It is hard to imagine now all the hoo-ha surrounding Mikel joining us and NOT Man Utd. That was a real battle.
amazing how many players with Chelsea connections around elsewhere, we all know the 2 big blunders but they have also has funded a near net zero drunken sailor summer https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/foot...ormer-players-premier-league-de-bruyne-salah/
