I’m surprised about the running, but our soccer team was pretty lily white as I recall.

When I was little we just had a few Korean kids in my grade. By jr high there was a mix of Korean, Chinese/Taiwanese, and Vietnamese. By the time I graduated high school we were probably at 20+% Asian, and from what I hear from friends who still live there it’s now like 80%. And along with that Temple City is no longer a football powerhouse....

    Good to hear from you.

Interesting (although, sadly, not surprising) information.

NO I think you missed the point. You have the accepted guidelines and grown folks are not following them.

Now we are reopening schools with the assumption and directive that best practices will be followed. The magnitude of the stupidity behind that assumption is such that it is almost guaranteed to make this pandemic worse than it is even now. In the meantime we have R well over one in most of Conus. The genie is out of the box.

I agree, but I do think that if on a local basis people continue to follow the guidelines it can be kept at bay in those locations, relatively speaking. And not every place is going to reopen schools.

in all this mask nonsense we have people claiming that they have a breathing problem (some are valid but I'm pretty damn sceptical of most tbh), or they say "I'm not gonna breathe my co2 I'll get sick so "don't you tell ME to wear a damn mask".

but ,,,, why are face shields not recommended? they don't interfere with any natural breathing, don't exacerbate an existing respiratory issue, are at least (I believe) as effective at stopping the virus as masks, and don't need to be replaced frequently.

this won't stop the covidiots of course but could make some misguided people (or bullshitters) something to think about.

Ok, I am sorry that I didn't caught the "light" tone of that (although it's a fact that, as we've said over and over, even jokes are sometimes revealing or what's laying deep behind them).

Now, that's something I can't relate to. I don't like the notion that "only Blacks are allowed to talk about Blacks", "only women are allowed to talk about women" and so on... I mean, I appreciate the perspective of who's living discrimination from inside and I am here to learn everyday, with all the due humility, but I also support freedom of speech, that's a different thing from "privilege".

By the way, I can't help wondering how would have it been received if some White man had said "your president", while talking to a Black man, referring to Obama during his presidency.

Do you dip it in egg 1st? Mama Mia used to fry up false squash/zucchini blossoms dipped in egg and flour. I loved those.

    Not bad, but:

How about folks who need medical attention, or routine medical care, like dialysis or chemotherapy to stay alive? What about healthcare workers, or those who work in group homes and nursing homes? And what about the transportation industry, such as cargo haulers, truck drivers, and the like, to supply the grocery stores?

I think that there are more folks than just grocery store workers and utility workers that would need to be out of their homes.

But as I said, not bad on your part, and a metric fvkcton better than having exactly no federal-level plan.

I think you are taking to much from that. I could never say that "Trump is your guy" or OFE or Auria or dapip because, well, he never was and never will be in any possible way. But like OFE said, it is more of a jest. Granted, the first time it was said to me I was in a heated discussion and took it as an insult/swipe, and got really pissed, but since then it has been more in the context of needling, along the lines of "You White people need to get your shit together."

Every so often, when I was in a classroom, I would have a student say "I need to take this call from my mom." I would tell them no, and then I would discuss Maslow:

While this is imperfect, I would use this as a baseline in determining what is really a need and what is not.

I would use that in the context of superdave's list.

They're still not going to get into Walmart, allegedly.

They'll be given alternative options including curbside pickup and delivery.

    Good points.

How does food get to the supermarket without farm workers, slaughterhouses, meat-packers, trucks and containers.

Where did a supermarket get its cash from without banks and/or armored trucks.

What if my freezer goes caput or my sewers get clogged? Who's going to fix my gas and electric, cable or internet after a storm?

    And so it goes on...

They had better know each other pretty well for that to work. And almost surely, the white guy would need to be a fellow Dem.

The highest daily number of Illinois cases since June 2nd today, after having two of the next three highest number of cases on Wednesday and Thursday. Looks as if we will need to move backwards too.

I think you might be overthinking all this.; When my daughter messed up her momma used to say "your daughter did___" but when she made honor roll she was "her daughter." It is now that way with my grandson, when he does well he is "my grandson" when he screws up he is "her son."

Okra does not get an "egg wash" that is "not kosher" you only use the egg wash on fried chicken. You instead use damp rinsed okras rolled in cornmeal. It leaves a thinner coating unlike that mass produced egg wash breaded crap you find available in the prepackaged or mostly restaurant served varieties.

It is not "deep-fried" it is cast iron skillet fried.

Squash and Zuchini flowers are not subject to these rigorous restrictions, but it is unholy to prepare fried okra any other way.

Yes. Egg helps keep the flour on the okra. Mine still does it that way, and now I do, too. You can but it pre-breaded (frozen) as well, but you don't get the batter you want.

MY okra gets an egg wash (the yolk is removed), before the cornmeal, thanks much. Don't tell me how to fry okra- I've been doing it for four months!

Allegedly it has shifted to be more downstate. I can find the geographic distribution of the cumulative numbers, but not of the daily numbers, so I cannot confirm.

LOL....I have to admit I was surprised that you used egg wash. I don't use a wash on okra or fish. although I am eating more grilled fish nowadays as I really like it with a little bit of a smoky taste.
