https://www.yahoo.com/sports/mls-reveals-26-positive-covid-030758112.html Positives on the wuhan prior to the tournament and those already in Florida.
Positive rate 2.7% I read in another article. I wish it was zero, it's a low rate relative to many parts of the nation. (still wish it was zero)
I don't know. Florida (much like Texas) has been described as a shit show from many a point of view and now I am concerned for the players. As much as I would like to see MLS back, maybe discretion at this time is the better part of valor.
I know. I'm concerned for the players and staff, and at the same time desperate to watch soccer to escape. Sucks to be in this Sophie's Choice conundrum. But if safety becomes an issue, they should scrap the whole thing.
2.7% is quite high for closed quarters, all teams and staff AFAIK are sequestered in the same resort. And positives are doing self-quarantining in the same resort instead of being sent somewhere.
No JDS for the tourney. https://www.lagalaxy.com/post/2020/...ntos-miss-mls-back-tournament-orlando-florida
Measured before they were in the bubble. FC Dallas news today is depressing, however. It's up to 9 players. I don't know how they field a team, and I suspect they will pull out. EDIT: https://www.espn.com/soccer/fc-dall...positive-for-coronavirus-ahead-of-mls-restart If the infected players did travel with the rest of the team, that would explain a ton. They've got 19 players left.
Bye bye our shot at going anywhere (not that I really thought we had one). Bummer. Huge blow. Looking forward to watching 2,742 crosses into Chicharito go nowhere.
A bit of doom and gloom. Don’t know if it’s as bad as this article says but definitively reason for concern: https://www.latimes.com/sports/soccer/story/2020-07-01/mls-is-back-tournament-could-be-in-jeopardy
This thing should be cancelled. For everyone that hasn't been following the tournament structure, the players will be advised to stay at the hotel the league provides and just report to training/matches. BUT, there is legally nothing the league can do if a player wants to go out somewhere. Also the staff will be going home after their shifts. That means those employees will be going to stores, potentially going to restaurants, bars, etc and coming into work. Previously that wasn't a huge concern because numbers weren't huge, but now it's likely that an employee would bring the virus to the enclosed areas.
I don’t know how many people saw the scrimmage today but if that is any indication as to how the tournament is going to go, they’d be doing us a favor by canceling it. Only hope is every other team is out of shape and plays like a Sunday men’s league too
Here were my thoughts on scrimmage (which I posted elsewhere but probably belong here. ) Anyone watch the scrimmage? I was playing monopoly with kids so I could not watch too closely but we sure don’t look ready for tough matches. The teams were split pretty evenly so Galaxy II 2 and Galaxy 0 is misleading. biggest takeaways: chicharito was completely anonymous again until limping off with a knock after 30. Pavon our best player. Next best player at least two tiers below. Efra was trying to run more but didn’t have much more influence. Some of the guys from Galaxy II I didn’t recognize seemed better then the established guys. Steres and De Puey didn’t fill me with much confidence. Traore looked good going forward from the back. I like Wild’s effort. He seems to make smarter decisions the Zubak. That’s all I got.
Hey, I already repped you the first time you posted this. Do you really expect to get another rep point by posting it again in another thread?
Rant: Seriously why are we even playing soccer. I am sorry if I am being dramatic or over the top here, but seriously there are 120,000+ people dead from covid, and we are getting 10s of thousands of cases every single ********ing day. We should not be playing soccer. This tournament is ridiculous and means nothing other than a glorified preseason tournament. Protect the players. I can't support this tournament. We as a nation have failed so damn badly, and we are trying to look away from all the suffering with sports. I get it, but we can't. It's not worth it. These guys have families, and we know so little about the long term effects of covid. It's too risky. I wish I could watch us play. I wish I could watch any MLS team play, but it's not worth it My sister is a nurse in Houston, and her hospital is so overwhelmed with Covid. Back in April when things were supposedly so bad we needed to shut down, they regularly had 15-20 covid patients stay there. They have 200+ now. Beds are running out, and it's almost July 4th. I really worry about this country, and it's not time to play a soccer tournament. Plus with all the stuff I am reading about the bubble the players are in, it doesn't sound very secure. Apparently a columbus player got the virus in Florida.
I thought it was more like the NBA bubble. Those guys stay in their hotels and everything is provided to them inside. Entertainment, exercize, places to eat, to lounge etc. I read they will make them wear tracking devices while not playing. Any breakage or any rule and they are thrown out the tournament. No going outside the bubble permitted at all except with permission and there are rules for also. MLS seems like a train wreck waiting to happen in comparison.
Trying to figure out if this person is Omar Gonzalez: https://twitter.com/MLSCovidCup Also refers to the Columbus player testing positive.
Matt Doyle has us at the bottom of the barrel with JDS's departure. Hard to disagree. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020...st-mls-back-tournament-contenders-ranked-tier
Highlight Time Folks Yay I missed this!!! Three quick observations. 1. I like the hustle of Gordon Wild. He is going to slot in just fine with Katai out. 2. Chicharito is going to fail if he is lone striker. Alvarez sent him a perfect cross for a header goal. If that were Ibra that's in the back of the net 99% of the time. He doesn't have the crazy height and strength to make something out of nothing. We need to play him 4-4-2 and he will need someone with both to help. 3. We are going to lose Pavon when his contract is up. Short of backing up a dump truck full of money there is no way Europe doesn't come calling.
Yeah, I missed it too. Great to see the guys at it again. They must be as frustrated or even more so than all the fans at the inactivity for so long. I meant to go hunting for the video of it so thanks for putting it up TBG. Not so noticeable the absence of Jona but it will be come game time. Pavon is our one bright shining star now that Ibra is gone. He will be missed also when he goes. Chich is a work in progress. That cross may have been a bit high. He will get better.
