City may be banned from Europe next season if their appeal fails so no matter how high they finish it may be for nothing . So City's attention will probably be away from the league and more focused on winning the CL which will pose some selection decision for Pep. Whether there is any point to go strong against the champions and risk potential injuries in essentially a nothing game for them .
I say we go all the way. There is the integrity of the competition angle to consider. Also City's post lock-down streak lasted all of two matches-- it must stay that way. Remember there will not much of a pre-season so we need to get the key players up to pace as well.
Not meaningless to us but just meaningless in the fact that WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!! (God, that doesn't get old) The guard of honor will be the cherry on top.
Don't forget we went to 2 more CL finals, a Europa League final, 2 FA Cup finals, and 2 League Cup finals. Basically we were in a position to win a trophy once annually. We never ceased to be a big club.
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/53206078 Manchester City's players will give new Premier League champions Liverpool a guard of honour at Etihad Stadium on Thursday, says Pep Guardiola. It will be Liverpool's first game since their 30-year wait for a league title was ended after City lost at Chelsea. "We are going to do the guard of honour of course," said City boss Guardiola. "We will greet Liverpool, when they come to our house, in an incredible way. We are going to do it because they deserve it."
Basically we drew with the bitters because we didn’t press hard enough and gave them room to play. We beat the Palace because we pressed and denied them passing space. just hoping that because Pep is being accommodating that we don’t treat this as some sort of exhibition game and let them play. Well until maybe after the second water break.
It's going to be interesting to see how our players react. Already champions and I'm sure still basking in that, will they be able to put in their normal effort/workrate?
You know City will go all out to win against LFC - just to ‘show them’ who’s better I expect a dog fight of a game
Crush them, just like all our recent matches against them. Then we can go into a more relaxed mode. The more I think of it, the more we really should consider heavily rotating the squad in the final games, no sense in having our biggest players burning energy when we can put them on a nice rest period prior to our season starting again in September. Just think, our squad stays relatively settled over the transfer window. But unlike our rivals, our players had most of July and all of August off. Mentally and physically rested we come back ready to dominate, again.
100 points would be nice...but if I had to decide between 100 points this year or another PL title next year...well, goes without saying... But, yeah...
We have lost two games over two seasons. At this point many opponents are beaten before a ball is kicked. I want to finish this season strong, break records, and make it clear that it will be no different next season. If we take our foot off the gas and start dropping points teams will start to believe they can get points off of Liverpool. If we demoralize our remaining opponents, next season teams might just roll over and not expect anything from their fixtures against Liverpool. City with their 8 losses (hopefully soon to be 9) are proving to be a team worth having a go at. We aren’t playing in the Champions League in August, and our players just had the longest break of their career. I’m all for using the 5 subs to give the young kids some chances, but I also want to see us finish the season the right way and lay down a marker for what’s to come next season.
I think 100 points this season helps us in our quest for the title next season. Stumbling over the finish line only gives hope to the rest of them. Let’s show everyone how relentless we are. We already won the league, but we are still coming for you.
I'd leave the kids out Thursday. Go with our best available. We may not beat City, bu twe need to perform, because playing well and performing from this team will be too much for 95% of the rest of the teams to compete with ....
I’m pretty certain Klopp wants this one. It could almost be classed as a Derby match. Hell, I want to win this one. We have something to prove.
Lets get 105 points. 20 years from now when a supposedly great team wins the league with 95 points, somebody will ask what is the record for points in a season? Then we will get to remember these Reds.
Just how will Pep line up his side... for that guard of honour pre-match?! 🤣 A joyful Jamie Carragher previews tonight's game between Man City and Liverpool 🏆#MCILIV #LFC pic.twitter.com/UsTZs8aUgf— MCCCSHCas (@MCCCSHCas) July 2, 2020
