I am not sure either that is why I was questioning it. I do know they are forming MLS DA league teams right now so figured they would play in the fall. Perhaps they will play showcases and friendlies all fall and start the league in the spring but don't really know. If the top level youth talent in the country doesn't have a league to play in this fall, those clubs and teams will have a lot of logistics to figure out for games on their own. I know FCD typically takes teams to Mexico in late July and early August and figure that won't happen this year. Here's hoping whatever they do Covid is not a factor.
Inexorably, MLS and non-MLS clubs have to prepare for a fall season; that's all they can do. For example, FC Dallas held academy tryouts yesterday with a bunch of Solar academy players. Their academy practices officially start on Monday. Solar started theirs earlier with some FCD academy players. It is the season. Yes. It would suck not having a fall season and more so if you pay to play -Solar- and maybe that's why some are trying out with FC Dallas. Financial risk management.
Who knows. I find it hard to believe anyone will pay to be on a team that has no games in the fall or no league. FCD was late to get going on the DA front as Solar had been doing it for a while now. Surprising as FCD club teams have been practicing for a few weeks. Their is not much love between the Solar and FCD folks I know ( had a kid at both DA programs at one point) but switching club does happen on occasion.
Covid-19 will be a factor for every athlete doing anything...............for the foreseeable future. As we know, FCD had a first team player contract the virus. Once that happened, there had to be some really careful actions taken around the whole community.
I am an eternal optimist. If the numbers continue to spike as they are, we won't be having any USYNT soccer to talk about for a long time. I like the ideas they have in place but you can't protect people in a close contact sport if the spread is common and among the league.
It could be worse. You could be the Fort Worth Vaqueros and have to announce that your new jersey sponsor is the Fort Worth Police Association. Just to add an additional headache you don't need at the moment. Congrats @FWPOA on winning 2020 Jersey Sponsorship. Season Seats are still available and include a FREE Jersey which is your ticket to home games. Looking forward to working with FWPOA, all sponsors & fans on our "Vaqueros For Change" Community Campaign. Carlos Cordeiro is invited to speak on what he's hearing from FIFA and Concacaf. He hears there will be extra FIFA windows in 2021 to make up for those canceled this year. And he hears, as others have, that the format of 2022 men's WCQs will be changed and there won't be a Hex.— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) June 13, 2020
Format? What format? Copy MLS. The highest two ELO points teams go straight to WC. Winner of 5:8 plays #4, winner of 6:7 plays #3, and then winners play for the third ticket. What's not to like here?
Julian Araujo, with the help of his mother, has apparently been arranging catered lunches for workers in his hometown. https://santamariatimes.com/sports/...cle_82e25ad0-f209-52d9-b27b-597da0d9e72d.html
This kid continues to impress on and off the pitch. If he isn’t captain of the u20’s then I’m fighting Anthony Hudson
I still wonder what his best position actually is................................... I also wonder if he's going to be a part of the U20s. Or with the added year delay, if he's clearly part of the U23s instead. I think an easy case can be made if we can't get the release of a couple of our Euro players to the U23s. He's not that far down the depth chart there.
There was an article the other day that posited that he's a RCB in a back three, ideally. Given his lack of height but also lack of fullback offensive skills, that may be the place where his upside is greatest.
His best position is RCB but unfortunately when you are only 5'9 your chances of being a top level CB are pretty slim (not everyone is a magical talent like Javier Mascerano who can manage to not be a liability as a tiny CB). A RCB in a back 3 would be ideal. Julian is fine as a RB but if you want your RB to be more attacking then he may not be your guy. Julian can still pass out of the back well and is a great defender so he still will become a very good RB.
He's 5'10, very strong and a very good leaper for size. I don't see which talent we've produced at CB that has more natural talent than him. If any American can make it as an undersized CB, I don't see why he couldn't.
I think for the ynt’s he could do it. I don’t think he’ll be successful as a CB at any levels higher than the MLS. I do think he has a chance as a RB at higher levels
There’s every possibility that he doesn’t make it at CB (or any position), but I’d much rather see if he can make it as a CB than count the guy out beforehand and settle for another Reggie Cannon level RB. That’s not an insult to Cannon. I think we need to put players where they have the most potential.
People say you can't be 5'10" and be a centerback...........................and then everybody should be able to name a whole host of 5'10" centerbacks. Araujo is 5"10"............not 5'4". You know a CB I really admired? Ivan Cordoba. Give me a team of 11 Ivan Cordoba's and I'd crush people. I'm fine if the Galaxy want to give Araujo a chance at CB. I don't know if they will, but let's not place him elsewhere just because of his height.
The original CONCACAF qualifying tournament was supposed to be happening right about now (the funk soul brother) in Honduras. What might've been...
I see you keep asking this and I’m right there with you. Are they waiting to see if any more closures happen before deciding? If not start giving out dates so there’s some indication that life will return to at least somewhat normal.
