It seems to have had an effect on home field advantage. No idea if someone is keeping numbers, but from the matches I've been watching, it seems locals are not winning as much as before.

BTW, there's hilight clips in that article. Krafth started. Whole-sale side switch at 65, including DY coming in. Manqu seemed to be at RM. The winner came off an unremarkable throw in from him, fwiw.

Yedlin on the bench today for Newcastle’s return to action. 0-0 in the 25th.

I'm not sure Manquillo is any better to be honest.

Yedlin got garbage minutes in extra time as Newcastle cruise to a 3-0 win over Sheffield United.

Non-YA, but Almiron had a nice assist on a Joelinton goal, and an even nicer assist on an opportunity Joelinton wasted. But Almiron himself was also wasteful in front of goal.

    Did Yedlin protest his benching?

This guy has been suspect for the last two years. More focus on improving his game would be my professional suggestion.

Almiron is the best player I've ever seen (albeit I can't stomach MLS for long) playing in MLS. Once the game slows down for him a bit he's got the talent to play for a big club or just be a very good player where he is.

Newcastle did that thing that poorly-run clubs do; they identified a weakness in their team (Yedlin), and brought in a bunch of players on the cheap who they thought might be better, despite no evidence suggesting that they would be.

So, instead of selling Yedlin ($6-$8 mil) and taking the money they spent on Krafth ($6 mil) and Manquillo ($5.5 mil) and investing all of that in one $20 mil right back, now they have three right backs who are all mediocre in different ways.

    @PaulCarr

DeAndre Yedlin is a last-minute sub for Newcastle.
    That makes him the 12th U.S. international (& 7th U.S. non-keeper) to reach 100 PL games. #RoundNumbers
(Friedel, Howard, Dempsey, Keller, Cameron, Guzan, McBride, Spector, Bocanegra, Hahnemann, Reyna, Yedlin)

Weird to think Spector managed 100 PL appearances, since I remember him rarely being first choice at any position for his clubs.

Not sure how many more he is going to get. I think he has officially lost his spot in the SL.... and IMO Manquillo isn't all that good.

He played 5 seasons in the Premier League for West Ham after leaving Man U, and 1 for Charlton on loan. In only one of those 6 seasons did he manage to start even half his club's games. And many of the starts he did receive had to do with his competition constantly getting injured (which spawned one of the more enduring recurring jokes in this forum).

He was a solid player who came up big for the USMNT at times especially in the 2009 Confederations Cup, and I think his number of Premier League appearances attests to the fact that he was always at least a strong option for his clubs though not necessarily first choice.

This just reminded me of his song after scoring a brace for West Ham in the FA Cup against ManU (sung to the tune of Winter Wonderland)...

He thought that he was Scotty Parker
Because he just blew by his marker
He used to be shite, now he's alright
    Walking in a Spector wonderland...
There's only one Johnny Spector, only one Johnny Spector
He used to be shite, now he's alright
