As a person from Eastern Europe i find your statement racist, insulting and derogatory. Can't wait to hear your thoughtful opinions about other ethnic groups we have in LA - Armenians, Persians, Vietnamese, Thais etc. etc.
I apologize for busting in on the LAG forum. As I posted yesterday, I was one of his biggest supporters in Chicago, but not any more. Apparently, he refused to wear the "Pride" jersey last season for "Pride night" (ironically, against RSL). I had not heard that previously, but I have had it confirmed from one person I trust. And, being from Chicago, I don't know if we are being honest most of the time! (I am at this moment)
Personally I was not offended, no need to apologize. BTW Eastern Europeans are kinda very broad group of very-very diverse people and cultures. You might not know, for example, that most of the Jews in USA are Eastern Europeans.
No you were right honestly. My comment was thoughtless and I was painting with a ridiculously broad brush and I appreciate you calling me out on it.
Appreciate your appreciation, but i would prefer to discuss soccer here, if we had soccer to discuss of course The way it looks now afraid we would have to settle for some nano World Cup-like tourney in Orlando instead of a real season (wonder how much Disney paid MLS for that idea).
I think my favorite thing about MLS announcing plans for a tournament in Florida happen the same the week Florida’s new infection rate skyrockets. The 2020 MLS season may very well start, but I‘d put it at less than 50% it ends on its own terms.
I fully expect them to have him sit out whatever little season they have this year. They are not going to want to deal with the drama. I also expect to see the team make a statement about doing something on behalf of the black community in particular.
First we need to see if it starts at all though. Unlike Euro leagues we have to squeeze practically entire season (and playoffs) into 3-4 less months as scheduled.
Maybe the Galaxy can pay for Katai and his wife to undergo racial sensitivity training. Or attend an Africana Studies class @ CSUDH. Document the whole thing in a web series. Have it culminate with her building a garden in Compton or something.
I would hope they did help him. With the delicacy of the situation and the potential (although irrational) spillover to the team, it would be negligent ro not get involved and doing the best they can to pour oil on troubled waters.
They probably doing some costs-benefits analysis now, he is not core player after all, might decide it's "cheaper" to let him go.
Romain is in China. Galaxy FO is meeting with Katai today, i guess we will hear something tonight or tomorrow.
Obviously things can change, but I heard they want to do a summer tournament all in Orlando that is separate from the couple games that were already played and then continue the regular season in the fall for a couple months with a shortened playoffs after. We shall see...
Maybe something like this could be a good solution and a way to help with the problems we have. I would really like to see education and helping people change and learn more than just banishing them.
Well so much for that... The LA Galaxy have parted ways with Aleksandar Katai. pic.twitter.com/mcu0fTreC8— LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) June 5, 2020
Galaxy reached a financial settlement with Kitai for the rest of his contract and released him https://www.lagalaxy.com/post/2020/06/05/la-galaxy-statement-aleksandar-katai
Honestly surprised. I wonder if it would have gone differently if he showed up in better shape and was a dominant force the first two matches of the season. To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure I like a world where people can get sacked for the behaviors of relatives. I'm sure I'm in the minority there. I wonder what this means for the team from a cap space, international spot, ability to replace him and when standpoint.
As others have said, he's not responsible for what his wife is saying on social medias. On a sportive note, it's maybe a good thing since his first performances were horrid. In a certain way, maybe it helps the organization to get rid of him... In France sportsmen (especially soccer players) are often criticized because they're "dumb", but man we discovered during the last few years than their wives can be worse.
Agreed on all points, although something really significant would have needed to be done if he stayed to smooth over the public relations nightmare. Perhaps the team thought it wasn’t worth the effort? In any event, we’re going to need to figure out how to replace him unless the plan is to push Lletget out wide. We do seem to have a glut of central midfielders. That would leave room to make a serious play for Franco or whatever other central defenders we are chasing.
