Kid was on pace for double digit goals before he got hit. Him + RLC will be massive. I'm excited to see this team fit.
The extra time def prob helped him too. He was just on the bring of being back when all this went down. He’s gonna be a different dimension for our midfield.
Gonna be interesting to see who gets benched. I honestly think it will be Willian. I think he uses his contract ending before the season does to try and force a 3 year deal out of us. We should stand firm and say no. Think we end up... Pulisic-Tammy-Mount 2 of RLC/Kova/Jorgy and Kante. Cho is likely done for the season. Pedro could pick up some extra minutes.
Kante unlikely to be involved as he has been given permission not to train with the squad William willing to sign short extension until the end of the season

I don't think Willian will be benched by Lamps. He's already made 28 appearances this season (he had 32 last season). He trains hard and makes an impression. He's better than Pedro and Callum right now and we have no other winger option opposite Pulisic. He's willing to sign a small extension to stay at the club, which sounds small, but is a major thing. If he gets injured, he's putting his non-Chelsea future at risk in terms of value. He wants to stay at the club till he dies. I think he knows he won't get a 3 year deal, so that was a classic bargaining tool where they hopefully get something in the middle (ie, 2 years). He'd be a better backup than Pedro if our depth at wing was something like Pulisic, new signing, Callum, Willian. WIllian is such a weird player. He doesn't score the goals that people want/expect of him, I guess. Which is odd, because he never hit a 10 goal season before joining us. He does disappear in stretches of the season, but he's more positive than negative overall. Hardly injured. Never gives us problems. Never invites models to his house during a quarantine. Just saying. I'm fine with him. Not 3-year deal fine. 2 years? He still has a motor. Why not.
1. Funny that the least deep team requests this. 2. Not sure how this prevents injury? Same number of subs.
The Athletic claims Lampard is still pushing hard for Chillwell and Roman is still engaged and enthusiastic. What's the view on Chillwell with you guys? Some talking points: -he's young, wouldn't mind playing with other young English players -if/when Leiceister qualify for CL, why would he leave? -the quoted prices are way high, but Marina rarely pays those prices -why would Leicester sell? He just signed a four year deal; unless he says he's unhappy. -is he really an upgrade over what we've got? does he take us closer to being elite?
i'm pretty mixed on chillwell. he's got a modern fullback motor on him, and a pretty good left foot. he's still rather undisciplined at times. i think he's an upgrade over both Alonso and Emerson, but how much of one is up for debate. i just can't tell if he's truly worth the investment or not in the sense that we need to find a long term starter there. not to derail the question but Maatsen also looks promising. i don't think he's really that near being ready for the full-time spot, but we do have some promise coming through there. we still need to go out and find a non-half measure though. i'm not looking for a bargain, we should spend the money to get someone really good, fullbacks are so important these days.
I didn't mean to post this in the injury thread...my bad. But agree on Chillwell. I haven't seen enough to say - this kid has what we need. With Reece - you could see it almost immediately. On the other hand, Chillwell is part of a really good squad. Just don't see why he'd leave.
TODAY, 9:30 PM NEW LAW There was a welcome runout for Chelsea academy starlet Henry Lawrence today. The right-back featured versus Reading with Reece James injured. It is unlikely that Frank Lampard calls upon the 18-year-old, even if James misses the restart, but he is one of many Blues kids knocking on the door. Capped at England U19 level, Lawrence featured 14 times in Chelsea U23s’ PL2 campaign in 2019/20 and can also play in wide midfield. ————————————- Um... what? Anyone know anything about this?
I was able to find this article from 7 June. Doesn't sound serious. "Two of Lampard's players were not part of yesterday's game owing to minor injuries with Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi picking up knocks in training. Neither are considered serious and the decision to leave them out was understood to be precautionary." https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/chelsea-planning-friendly-london-rival-18376535
Now Billy out rest of season with knee https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/spor...eason-knee-injury-impressive-recent-showings/
"rest of season" means a few weeks or couple months given how short the rest of the season is. sucks, but luckily we do have jorg and maybe kova back soon.
yeah it sounds like a couple weeks to a month, and we played better with Jorg so with RLC hitting condition and form should be ok, not to mention the ever-present untouchable Liverpool-Lollipop-Lofter*, Ross Barkley * I know how you love hometown-candy nicknames, Hartford-Hot Tamale
Kid is going to have to fight his way back into the first team again. Feel bad for him, rough setback.
Center mid certainly a position of need... already sort of was in my mind but given how injury prone everyone is, we gotta get someone in the door. Jorginho has his uses, I don't want to rag on him too much but we lose any and all mobility in midfield when he becomes the fulcrum.
Yikes, this is rough news. I guess the possible silver lining here is that knee could explain how poor he's looked in the last couple? But as KDB said, by the time next season rolls around, there will be even more competition for places and he's really going to have to fight for it
