I think this is where Wes gets underrated. He does make mistakes, but he gets little credit for his positives.

I know the numbers are inflated by the Nations League game against Cuba, but he's played 9 competitive matches for the US and he's scored 6 goals and has 4 assists.

He's a central midfielder. And while he's played CAM in some of those games (including his 3g / 1g Cuba performance) ... c'mon. Why aren't we excited about that at all?

Yes, I get the competition wasn't the greatest, but it's typical competition for CONCACAF competitions and I don't see a ton of American ATTACKERS having those kind of numbers.

2-1 Dusseldorf now. Short corner left open, crossed into box, headed down toward far post and Karaman is able to do the header equivalent of a tap-in. McKennie was right in the mix, not really marking anyone, as much of Schalke was sort of ball-watching. Ugh.

Both goals were pretty similar in the sense that the ball dropped in the Schalke box, and all the Schalke players were slow to react.

I might have to watch it again, but it looked to me like McKennie was marking another Dusseldorf player who wasn't involved in the goal.

Morales on 81st minute for Berisha, to try to clog the middle more.

Yeah, Schalke are kind of in free fall at the moment. They're not in relegation danger, but they're fading out of that race for the last European spot.

Terrible result for Werder Bremen too.

this is debatable but McKennie lost Hennings (28) and just stayed back as the ball came in. Hennings didn’t head the ball but if McKennie was on him, the play would have been offside. McKennie kept the whole play onside

This is certainly a part of it. One of the things this year is Schalke had been punching above their weight and some folks started to believe their table position more than their play. They're just not a great team, but that's different than them being a terrible team.

    They're kinda... meh.

That offense is woeful. Right there with the worst in the league bad. Their Goals For is 5th worst in the league and on par with the teams in the relegation places. I thought Matondo was impressive today but other then that they have almost nothing going on moving forward.

They've scored 1 goal (off a set piece) in 3 games since the league started back up. 5 goals in 11 games since the winter break. Yikes.

Serdar was their only real attacking threat and now he's done for the year, I think. They're in shambles. Just need to play this year out and try to bring in reinforcements, which would be tough under normal circumstances for a cheap club but even tougher now.

he's out for the season and not that they are cheap more like have some money issues and corona doesn't help. I blame the long ass list of players they let go for free over the years.....

known fact that Schalke's attack has been rubbish for a couple of seasons. Their most productive player is a bench CF who's only 19 and a winger playing false 9, lol. Defensively not good either.

essentially almost the whole team needs revamping but doubtful to happen.

schalke clearly never replaced goretzka and even then needed to complement him.

Schalke needed to win to give Bremen a better shot at not getting relegated. Although may not be a bad thing for Sargent.

It really is tough to watch Schalke. I don’t understand why they let so many players go for free the last few years. That’s definitely had an impact.

We were relegation fighting last season and did not make any impressive signings. We have had injury issues and have had for a few years sub-par goal scoring threats.

Given all the above, Wagner has had the squad punch above its talent level. The Sporting Director FO, well that is where we should be concerned..

This was the 1st game I have seen in a while where Wes looked totally gassed. He was nigh invisible by the 80th minute... probably should have been subbed late in the game. The idea that he was somehow at fault for the goals is farfetched to me though. He has scored the last two goals for Schalke and that is frightening considering the number of games that has been and the fact that he has been playing a D position in at least half of those minutes.

It was absolutely brutal to see this gameplan from Wagner. Fortuna is not a great passing team and Schalke has been struggling horribly on O... Where is the fire? Why allow a subpar team all that time on the ball? At any rate, gotta give Wes his due for scoring but other than that it wasn't his best game. He looked pretty tired and even uninterested at times which is out of character. I am a pretty big fan but perhaps he needs to rest a bit this weekend.?.? I dunno... How do you take the guy who has scored the only two goals you have had in your last 7 games out? Perhaps Wes just needs to man up and try and will the team to a win.

    what?

    Enter new nonsense against Wes.

Maybe he should come back to MLS, get massively overpaid, and whine to the media that its his agents fault.

Wes is quite underrated by our fans. He's a solid workhorse who can score on occasion. No one is saying he's a world-beater, but he's better than some other guys who are more hyped.

The number of long defensive runs Wes makes is astounding. His teammates have to absolutely love him for that.

Sure, but I doubt he loves them for having to make those runs. Not so many.
