If you had to put together a starting XI for Qatar 2022, who would be in it?

I see six guys who are pretty much locks and then the other five could be a bunch of people and its not a compliments its a lot of lipstick on a pig. Someone still needs to convince me that Josh Sargent is really good and why the us feels the need to try to play with a true 9 when they clearly don't have one right now outside of altidore.

I agree. We don't and won't have a 9 in 2022. Be flexible with your front 3 with a false 9. Reyna should be ready by then and Llanez/Weah should be pushing Morris for time.

    weah? llanez?

right now weah's eta to contribute is never and you just hope for the best and llanez has done nothing to show he is ready he can't even get first team minutes with his club. Those two names shouldn't be ahead of tba/undecided they haven't proven anything.

McKennie's best performance for the US came against Portugal. There, the team used a 4141. Here is more of a 433/4141. Pulisic is the wing-forward, with the Dest the wide mid. Reyna plays the more attacking of the dual 8s.

a option, maybe not the preferred option, might be to go three in the back, push up the wingbacks.

mckennie isn't that kind of player you don't say hey his best performance was in this formation in a friendly so we'll build our world cup team around him in that position.

I got a kick out of the lineup that showed baseball legend Brooks Robinson at sweeper.

You must be very high on Richards I take it? That's the only quibble I have. I think Long's speed is a good compliment to Brooks.

I have only seen Richards with the U20s, but he'll need to have some Bundesliga minutes between now and 2022 to make it as a starter, IMO.

Or a 4-4-2 formation that you can go with for the USA

4-4-2 basically works to the USA's advantage the best

2022 ages by the time Qatar starts

GK- Zack Steffen (27 years old)
LB- Antonee Robinson (25 years old)
CB- Aaron Long (30 years old)
CB- John Brooks (29 years old)
RB- Sergino Dest (22 years old)
LM- Weston McKennie (24 years old)
CM- Jordan Morris (28 years old)
CM- Christian Pulisic (24 years old)
RM- Gio Reyna (20 years old)
CF- Jozy Altidore (captain) (33 years old)
CF- Josh Sargent (22 years old)

Average age for starting 11: 25.81 years

CB is the position I'm least sure of, but I see Richards a high-potential player who is in a great position to move up. If not Richards, I'm sure at least one of EPB, Miazga, Miles, or CCV will make a big move at club level.

I just want to think about qualifying first.

Then think about the lineup once we see how the team develops and jells.

We have no control over the outcome. I know we'd like to think we do, but we don't, so project away.

I never said I have control over it.
I just personally do not like projecting lineups when qualifying has not even started yet.
I do appreciate other people doing it though. I am just not there yet.

USA bare minimum now is at least qualifying directly for Qatar because anything less than that especially by American standards is a failure and I am sure USA doesn't want to repeat what happened last WCQ cycle by failing to qualify.

But then come 2026 however as one of the 3 hosts however, with you guys, us Canadians and the Mexicans at least USA will have home advantage being one of the 3 hosts. USA bare minimum with it being 48 teams, USA will get to Round of 32 that is a given but they should get to Round of 16 or QF at least.

Forgot about Long. Hopefully he gets that move. His game has cratered since NYRB rejected those offers. Gotta feel for him.

    no CF,
    really messes things up.
do we really gotta ride Altidore until the WC,
and possibly start an old Alt at the WC?
    eek.
    not ideal.

    so, i guess, Midfielders galore.

Starting 11 for Qatar 2022 qualifiers to the 2022 World Cup itself (4-2-3-1); this is the lineup to go with especially if you wanna qualify for Qatar and qualify decisively

    GK- Zack Steffen
    LB- Antonee Robinson
    CB- John Brooks
    CB- Matt Miazga
    RB- Sergino Dest
    CDM- Tyler Adams
    CDM- Weston McKennie
    LAM- Christian Pulisic
    CAM- Gio Reyna
    RAM- Tim Weah
    CF- Josh Sargent

My bench players to make up the rest of the 23

    GK- Matt Turner, David Ochoa
    LB- Sam Vines, Chris Gloster
    CB- Aaron Long, Tim Parker
    RB- Reggie Cannon
    CDM- Alfredo Morales
    AM- Richie Ledezma, Brendan Aaronson
Strikers on bench- Jozy Altidore, Bobby Wood

This is if I was the USA manager, then my starting 11 would consist of youth. Why? Every national team sooner or later goes with youth for tournaments case in point Germany in 2010, England in 2018...going with a youthful inventive side on the ball in my 11...one that can be defensive but also can be pretty damn fast on counter attack

My bench doesn't look too shabby either

And I'm not even American either but put this together pretty neatly...if they were to go with this team, USA would qualify for Qatar pretty easily.

I think many are sleeping on richards, simply because he hasn't gotten on the field for a top 5 in the world team. He was by far our best player at the u20 world cup. I would bring him into the US team now.

He could easily get sold or go on loan and immediately become a regular starter on a mid table BL team, and then he's our #1 or 2 CB. This could happen very quickly, too.

Solid effort, but you're just missing Morris, who has been our best player for the past year. Slide him in for Weah (still just potential at this point), and that's my lineup for qualifying.

Slide in richards for miazga by the world CUP, that's my only change for 2022.

Yeah I went with Weah mostly because I'm trying to go for youth even though Morris has been lights out and I went with Miazga because like I said I want youth but I want new faces within the team
