The Fire have purchased a bunch of "thank you first responders" electronic billboards in the last couple weeks. A nice continued sign from Mansueto of his "I don't care how much I have to spend on this team, money is no object" message.

They need to get in the habit of minimizing contact with each other. The celebrations are non-necessary contact. It is different than what we are used to so it is odd. There is a reason for it and that reason isn't stupid. Did you notice that no one is helping players up anymore. There shouldn't be jersey exchanges either. Again - different, not stupid.

It's also still very early in the cycle. We don't know enough about the durability of the antibodies produced via infection or vaccine yet. It's also important to note that this early phase of the trial isn't directly testing for effectiveness. That comes later.

This does a good job of laying things out in layman's terms.

But there are countless more contact (necessary) in the game. Covid doesn't care if the contact is a celebration or hustling on a corner kick. If you are really unsure about the contact between players then you shouldn't have started the games then.

The contact that is necessary in order to play the game has been decided by the Bundesliga to be an acceptable risk, one it feels is worth taking. But why increase the level of risk by adding in contact that is not necessary in order to play the game?

The Oxford vaccine is already in the efficacy testing stage. All others are in stage 1 and 2.

Which stage is the this-won't-turn-you-into-a-monster stage?

That would be the safety test, which is stage 1. Oxford vaccine skipped a traditional stage 1 because its an existing vaccine that they modified to work against Covid-19. Unfortunately the latest on it is that it does nothing to prevent spread - but it does prevent pneumonia. Which is probably enough to ease the restrictions if it was widely distributed.

They're not for those people. They are for Liga MX fans to give MLS a chance.

The announcement says that they're moving all the 2020 plans to the 2021 ASG. So same matchup, same location, etc.

Same thing applies. Liga MX fans aren't dumb, and they can see through gimmicky friendlies as much as anybody else. As an aside, I'd also guess they probably won't give MLS much of a chance until MLS shows they can be competitive with Liga MX in the CCL.

Does the average MLS fan know CCL exists?

Just to add a link for this:

    https://www.theguardian.com/society...l-results-raise-hopes-for-coronavirus-vaccine

Good that it prevents the pneumonia, but, from what I understand, the other parts of catching the disease are pretty horrible. So the reduction in cause of death might be great, but not preventing actual infection isn't a good thing.

I don't mind the teams celebrating goals. They live and train together in semi-isolation, and are tested constantly. If they can't celebrate goals, the whole endeavor should be called off.

    (Which is also an option.)

All the over the top measures such as social distancing on the bench, no celebrations, etc are just a show for the public to think "wow, they are really taking precautions!". I don't think they serve any real purpose.

If we can't trust tests, what can we trust? I think UFC made the right calls in the way they are doing their shows. Thee lack of crowd is hidden by the lighting and the show itself just looks like a normal show because everyone involved either has been tested or is wearing a mask.

And at the end of the day we just need to decide whether these things are "essential" or not. The risk for these guys is actually much less than it is for a Starbucks barista right now with all the tests they are getting. Why are these players so special to get these protections?

Good question! But what is an "average MLS fan"?

If you know about CCL you know about USOC, Leagues Cup and Campeones Cup. If you don't know one then you don't know the others I would think.

Hell, even "average fans" in England don't really keep up with all of that stuff.

I was outside Highbury in December, 2003 for Lokomotiv/Arsenal and had to point out to an Arsenal season ticket holder and his friend exactly where in the competition they were (round 6 of the group stage). Later on that evening I was asked to leave the press box and stadium. But that's another story for another time.

When I read the announcement today I could not have told you what the structure of the Campeones Cup was. I recognized it as a competition that had been announced but I had no idea what it was beyond that.

That's probably why USOC, CCL, Leagues Cup and Campeones Cup have terrible ratings, no one cares or can keep up.
