My comment was incorrect. They have created a union but the players have yet to be unionized but it looks like a formality to me whenever they are ready to go through the process. A women's league is in the plans by CPL. That's why it's unlikely that the CSA will ever grant a sanction to NSWL unless it's highly restrictive with an understanding that the club joins Women's CPL at launch.

From what I understand, the CPL players will get the 75% of their wages covered by the CEWS. For MLS players, the proposed cuts would apply only to earnings above $100 000 USD. As far as I'm aware none of the teams involved will be receiving revenue so they aren't that different than a restaurant that has had to shut down. It sucks for the players but 75% of a CPL salary or $100 000 USD should still let them buy groceries.

He's a definite asset for promoting the club. I'd have been worried about the depth of his pockets if he was actually the only owner, however.

Right now, using Google Maps, it's 21 m from the front row of seats across the track to the edge of the field. At TD Place this distance is 7 to 9 m depending where you're sitting.

Didn't see this one coming as Estevez has only played a full 90 for York once in his career. I'm guessing this move came about because of a combination of factors: ADO Den Haag's ownership is Chinese, Estevez himself is half ethnic Chinese, and also because he has an EU passport. I hope he does well in Holland.

Valour is being transparent with their finances. Their record should shatter doubts on the league's viability. This data was actually published as a sub-section of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers annual financial statements which get released every year because the Bombers are a community owned club. That means we should presumably get to see these numbers for Valour FC every year which will be useful for those of us who are interested in this sort of thing. https://d3ham790trbkqy.cloudfront.n...innipegBlueBombers_AnnualReport_Web_FINAL.pdf This shows Valour with revenues of ~$2.8 million and expenses of ~$3 million. We know from elsewhere that the salary cap (which I assume all the teams are at least close to) is $750 000. This means Valour had non-player salary expenses of about $2.25 million. I'm impressed they were able to keep it that low. The Bombers show expenses for "football operations" at $12 million. Take out $5.7 million for the CFL salary cap and it means the football team spent ~$6.3 million on other stuff. Valour had an average attendance last year of 5368 over 14 home games or about 75 000 total fans. Assuming an average of $25 per ticket, that gives ticket revenue of ~$1.9 million. So about $900 000 in non-ticket revenue. My overall take is that the numbers were lower than I expected. Remember when they said the owners were going to "invest" $5 million per team per season? But both the revenue and expenses are lower than I'd have thought. A loss of $200 k is pretty decent for an opening campaign.
It looks like the emphasis of CPL is to run as efficiently as possible and remain very lean business-wise which makes breaking even or even turning a profit very attainable much sooner than any of us had anticipated. Tyler Attardo has European clubs interested in buying him. Valour is 1 or 2 sales away from breaking even. This tells me that Halifax, Forge and possibly Cavalry either broke even or turned a profit. Pacific, York most likely lost more than Valour. Edmonton might have broke even as Tom Fath was saying that running a CPL club was much cheaper for him than NASL while having a bigger average in attendance than back then. His most important clue was that he said the business backing and sponsorship was significantly higher than the NASL years + MediaPro deal Cavalry had the most expensive tickets in CPL, most likely more expensive than some MLS clubs. The games against Vancouver and Montreal + the CPL finals were sellouts at full price. If you account the Joel Waterman sell, Cavalry made money this year. I would say the same for Forge with the Tristan Borges sale, CPL finals and CONCACAF league games. (~200k + bonus to Forge now that Borges team promoted to the Belgium top Tier) Halifax most likely broke even by selling out all their games. It's definitely encouraging for the future and attractive to prospective owners out there. It adds weight to the claim from CPL that around 20 groups are interested. Not sure if you caught that but the Montreal CPL Bid was backed by Saudis until it felt through due to Canada making it too hard for them to invest here. That was from Alex Bunbury who's the one putting up the bid. He's working to put up another with other investors.
