With our recent transfer history you could throw so bad players into the mix too. Looking at you Drinkwater

Like I said, we're interested in all good players. If the price is right. If they're not right, we move down the list.

In hindsight, Drinkwater is a total shit buy. But at the time, he was only a year removed from winning the league with Kante at his side and on the fringes of national team duty. Plus, he was English, so that also checked a box. He wasn't that bad. He wasn't that good.

We swung and missed. Was he first choice? No. I forget - who did Conte want?

Whoa, did I just read a reasonable take regarding Danny Drinkwater?

The obsession here over his signing always baffled me. It made sense at the time. Let's not forgot he ended up being injured for nearly the entirety of that first season and then considered invalid by Sarri.

That being said.. a shitty transfer is a shitty transfer. Just think many can be quite unfair to Drinks.

Lots of Chelsea players on there. But in the Roman era, we've had far more hits than misses. I mean, getting Kante invalidates all of the misses.

Esp the last few years where we've worked the market more efficiently than arguably anyone.

Some obvious frustration in certain instances but I like where we're at now.

Did anyone else completely forget we signed Hakim Ziyech? Lol.

Jorg has definitely improved the past season. But I've never warmed to him to be honest. He makes a lot of defensive mistakes and his only way to rectify that is through intense fouling. And his offense doesn't quite make up for it.

Don't know much about Pjanic, except that he's two years older. We'd definitely need $ or something to balance this deal out. Sarri obviously wants Jorg so Juve doesn't really hold any cards.

Chelsea if anything should sign this player but I don't think they will but Thomas Partey my fellow Ghanaian countryman, he would be a fantastic fit for Chelsea.

i'm not sure i could ever forgive 10 years of never figuring out an elite RW and continuously taking half measures and overpaying for those half measures.

but a bunch of other bad ones made some sense at the time, and kante did help big time.

Cabby and Giroud extended 12 months reported

Willian says he will finish THIS season here regardless of written paper

Good of Willian. Was def concerned he’d use this to leverage for a 3 year deal he’s been after

An early indication of what the suits think of the next transfer window.

I've got to think the market will be massively deflated but logic hasn't applied to football in yonks.

Will be very interesting to see what the big clubs are willing to spend. This could be a devastating market for smaller teams that rely on player sales, especially with no gate receipts for the foreseeable future.

Xavier Mbuyamba (CB/RB) Barcelona signed the player in 2019 ahead of interest from Chelsea, Inter, Real Madrid, Juventus, Lille, Werder Bremen and Marseille. Chelsea and Marseille remain potentially interested as it has become evident very quickly that opportunities to progress at Barcelona are slim at best. One to keep an eye on but there is a contract provision that may see Barcelona add three years to his contract this summer - making an interesting issue for negotiation. But the blues are keen by all accounts.

Worth noting on this, we always needed a third striker so I'm not sure what this actually tells us. Batshuayi has to be gone so that'll tell me more than Giroud signing on for one more. Willy makes sense too. If we sign Willian to an extension, that'll speak volumes to how we'll treat the window IMO.

yeah did not think of that initially, that signing Willy probably means we are not in for Ajax keeper (and I still think Kepa took too much blame for shit team and individual defending)

Splurging on a keeper with everything going on won’t happen this summer. Agreed Kepa took unfair heat. Willy didn’t fair much better but is a solid back up to have around.

not that i'm saying we'll go get a keeper but i doubt we keep Kepa if we were to buy someone else anyway. so not sure keeping a good backup is indicative or not. just my opinion.

bigger issue i think is the timing of transfers. can't go out and do business to early if you are still finishing up the season and are relying on people who know they are being replaced etc. but then how close will season end be to the new season start. add to that the many teams that won't have any more games and have already called it. it's just weird.

Have to disagree about Kepa, many a good keeper post excellent displays in rubbish teams.

Our defending, note not just the defence, has not been good but I expect more from the keeper. He should use it as an opportunity to show his value.

There’s def things he could have done better with but there’s also been some he’s been hung out to dry on.

Either way, he’s better than Willy and this isn’t there summer to spend on a GK. Money is down (we still prob better positioned than most) and we have larger needs.
