After a bumpy couple of hours in the opening of the game I am now completely hooked on Outer Worlds. Really a great game that puts Bethesda's recent output to shame.

So I've had a week in which I was able to game quite a bit. I finished the Outer Worlds and now I have very mixed feelings about the game.

It starts with an interesting story exposition, but you need 1-2hours of getting used to the slightly dated game mechanics. Then as you progress it appears you're at the beginning of a deep RPG experience and you start enjoying yourself. After 8-10 hours or so you realise that there is no depth whatsoever to the game, the world, the quests and its mechanics. The balancing turned out to be horrible, the game is far too easy in combat, but also in the dialogue skill checks which makes the skill points you distribute meaningless as you pass 95% of all checks. Even worse you're almost exclusively doing fetch quests from point a to b to c for the majority of the game until the "story" is hurriedly wrapped up in the closing couple of hours. There's also a severe lack of interesting characters in this game.

So sadly I cannot really recommend it at full price.

For the majority of last week I played Borderlands 3 and it makes The Outer Worlds look even worse. It's not an RPG yet its world is more diverse, its characters far more interesting, its story more gripping and its combat, skill and class system infinitely better. It has some slight storytelling problems and is a couple of hours too long in the mid-section of the game but overall it was a far more enjoyable take on the "Crew+Spaceship+adventure" template than the Outer Worlds. Especially since the RPG aspects that should set the Outer Worlds apart were fell so flat.

If I can find the time I'll tackle the Jedi Fallen Order game next.

I agree 100% maybe I'll have to try it on the hardest level but combat was very easy.

I did like the random interaction your companions would have with each other..

I'm in the middle of d/l the latest 'upgrade', (they say), of Elder Scrolls Online which apparently loads faster. I don't know how much faster but it will have to be a LOT quicker to counteract the time I'm spending d/l the 54gb of the new version of the full game... AGAIN! :(

If anyone fancies doing some questing in Elder Scrolls Online I'm on there from time to time under my username Some-OldCodger63, (you have to put an '@' in front of it I believe). I have characters on both the US and EU server so add me as a 'friend' if you like and we can kick some daedra bottom if we're on at the same time :)

But note, I ONLY do PVE, NOT PVP on account of I'm crap at it :(

How is ESO these days? I haven't logged in in about 3 months. I have been busy with Archeage Unchained. I know they have released some new content, but anything decent dungeon wise? any major changes in the game? I leveled up a necromancer, but didn't really get into it.

It's pretty good although, tbf, I've never played any MMO's until this one.

The new DLC's are good, IMO. Some of the new dungeons and trials are pretty hard, especially on veteran.

Actually, someone mentioned last night that the old dungeons and trials, even the ones in Craglorn, are relatively easy compared to some of the new stuff but I suspect that's more to do with familiarity than anything else. if you know the mechs most stuff isn't that hard.

Having said that I always have a problem with banished cells on vet because I keep missing that bit where the boss fires something at you that shoots you up in the air in the bubble thingie.

Anyway, I seem to remember trying to add you as a friend when you last mention it but the system didn't seem to find you. Your handle was @tourniquet right? I#ll try again later today but, in the meantime, are you sure about the spelling? Are there no capitals or underscores?

Anyway, I'll try again later... this is on the US server, right?

It's been awhile, but going from memory, the bubble thing just happens to a random player, and the healer just has to heal the person through it. If the healer gets it, the party needs to be able to keep themselves alive until the bubble bursts. I don't know if the tank can get it or not.
The other mechanic is the colored curse he puts on you. Red or blue I think? there is a corresponding part of the floor for each color you need to stand on to cleanse the curse...

I don't think that should really be an issue though? At this stage of the game, the bosses burn down fast and mechanics don't mean much for the older vet dungeons.
Yeah that is it. was their a chance you were trying to find me from the EU server account by mistake?

I can't find you either under the name you PM'd awhile back, so maybe you gave me the EU account info by mistake?

Yeah, I know the mechs, (the coloured bubble and having to go to the correct circle on the floor and all that), and there's a way to interrupt or block it I believe when he raises his sword or whatever it is, (haven't done it in a while), but I always seem to miss him doing it :(

I usually try and heal on the harder stuff because my dps isn't good enough to burn down the harder bosses.

Having said that I've solo'd most world bosses... it just takes a while, that's all. They don't so much die as just get bored.
Not with me they don't :D
No, definitely the US server. I'l check it now but I definitely put @tourniquet

Just to be clear, we're talking about the PC servers, right? Not console.

yes PC. what's your main class? And CP level? Not that it matters as far as grouping up, just curious. Are you following any meta builds? I ask because you mention DPS, and it being low.

My lack of damage is nothing to do with gear or builds... it's to do with inability to see the keys properly now I have to wear glass to see the screen. That and the fact that my reactions are crap now I'm an old bugger means I'd be better to send them a nasty solicitors letter than trying to bash them.

I usually find it easier to just use one bar for distance stuff and the other for close range.

Regarding the other stuff, I have a stamina dragon knight, a magicka sorc, a stam warden and a magicka templar.

The magicka guys do healing and dps whilst the stam guys are solely dps.

CP is reasonable... about 550 IIRC

I've been doing some WB's on the euro server today, (where my CP is about 670), on my dragon knight fella and have been trying to sort out self heals. On the DK self-healing can be an issue but I think I've got it sorted... well, more or less :D

BTW @bostonsoccermdl I think I might have managed to send you a friend invite on the US server by simply typing in your tourniquet name. I did it both with and without an '@' so we'll see.

Anything interesting out right now? Might use the lockdown to finally return to a bit of gaming, but so far I haven't found any recent-ish releases that truly interest me.

I've been playing Animal Crossing: New Horizon lately. It's been fun, but is also a reminder that I don't have the time or energy to sink into a design-sim game.

I've also been playing through Super Castlevania IV on the Super Nintendo (I binged the Castlevania series on Netflix and decided I could use the nostalgia trip). Man I forgot how brutal NES and SNES games could be!

I've seen lots of folks playing Animal Crossing lately but it doesn't look like something I'd really get into. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I just finished the Ori sequel "Ori and the Will of the Wisps" and it's very good. It's more of the same and I wish they had taken a bigger step forward but nevertheless if you liked the first game this will be very enjoyable again for you.

It took me 23hours to finish the whole game with all its collectibles minus the challenge trials (I'm too bad with the gamepad for the difficult ones) and I think that's a fair proposition at a 30€ price-tag.

If you are unfamiliar with the franchise pick up "Ori and the Blind Forest" first which is available for 20€.

Both Ori games are currently available on Xbox Games Pass. If you're not currently a subscriber, you could pay for a month, play through both games, and save a little money.

Played that. Well, I think I got halfway through it before I stopped playing. Not really for lack of liking the game, but I now find myself struggling to finish any RPG with a decent-sized campaign. Used to be, I could pour 100+ hours into a game easily. Not any more.

I still play these 100h+ RPGs but far fewer of them than 10-15 years ago or so. Nowadays the game has to have a really outstanding unique selling point that attracts me a lot. Kingdom Come was on my bucket list for a very long time but it didn't have that special ingredient to warrant the time investment.

To my own surprise the last one I put that much time into was Assassins Creed Odyssey. As a big fan of the Roman and Greek world this game was a real treat. Plus it had an outstanding naval battle mode that I used extensively.

I am considering to play the previous game in Egypt, too.

Horizon was a really nice game, too. Not on God of War's level but really, really good.

I'm looking forward to picking it up on PC once it releases because I already sold my PS4 with all its games once I had played all the exclusive titles I was interested in.
