I have never once heard the term before. The term. The words you used to describe the thing. Not once before yesterday. You can understand how it might then be difficult to form a picture in one's mind.
"Body armor" would have been pretty universally understandable. "Stab vest" sounds like something you do to a sleeveless garment because the person wearing it is a dickhead.
MSNBC just reported that a sailor who contracted Covid19 aboard the Roosevelt just died today. Sad news.
I listened to the latest Ezra Klein latest podcast on my morning walk today. His guest was Scott Gottlieb, a former head of the FDA under the current administration, up to 2019. He is currently with American Enterprise Institute (hardly a liberal bastion). Very good podcast discussion and I highly recommend it. Gottlieb published a roadmap, under the AEI, for navigating the pandemic in the US, including measurable milestones for identifying when we canmake these transitions and start reopening America for businesses and families. That is the most coherent and rational plan i have read so far. It is not easy process though and we are nowhere near to that stage. Podcast and road map in the links below. "I don't think there's going to be a binary point in time when we return to what we were doing. World history is permanently altered by this episode."Great discussion between @ezraklein & ex-FDA head Scott Gottlieb on how & when to end social distancinghttps://t.co/614yz13zIz— Nick Malkoutzis (@NickMalkoutzis) April 13, 2020 https://www.aei.org/research-products/report/national-coronavirus-response-a-road-map-to-reopening/
That's an interesting document. Implementation might be more likely if they can get some Federalist Society hack to sign off on it.
Yes he can, and he will. This is the Republican party that scoffs with you say things like "99% of environmental scientists have analyzed the numbers and said that humans use of fossil fuels are negatively affecting the planet's climate. The party that ignores any and all science that says dumping things into the air and waterways and earth is bad for people's health. The party that denies that more access to guns result in increased gun deaths - they managed that by making it illegal to study gun deaths. The war on science is over, and Fox and Republicans have won.
Again, i didnt say lab made. Labs study naturally occurring viruses too. By the way, COVID 19 is not the scientific name for SARS CoV 2. COVID 19 is the disease caused by the virus SARS CoV 2.
It's a knife-puncture resistant protective garment in countries where 1/3 of the population doesn't think the 2A to the Constitution guarantees Neighborhood Nuclear Superiority... A lot of the first couple of generations of police issued body armor were WOEFULLY inadequate against knives, etc
I agree with all but the final sentence. The November 2020 election has yet to be held, and -- I mean this politely -- it would be Republican-level anti science to deny that Democrats have a realistic possibility of regaining power. You don't want to be a Fox Republican, do you?
Then if that “realistic possibility” comes about. It’ll take the first four years just to get back on an even keel again. With a demented DJT tweeting from his padded cell 20 times a day.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons has facilities for him everywhere with all states east of the Mississippi minus DE, ME and RI having facilities and the majority of the states west having them. https://www.bop.gov/about/
There's also been an outbreak at a big meat-processing plant in Greeley -- northeast of Denver. They announced that were going to conduct testing of all employees after some employees got sick, then suddenly did a 180 on that, probably when they realized that they probably had a LOT of sick employees at the plant.
My sense is that Trump isn't to be deterred from "opening the country" and Fauci won't sign off on that. It will take either some delicacy with the details to re-open the country kinda, sorta, not really, but enough that Trump can declare that re-opening has happened, with Fauci still being satisfied. Either that or Fauci will be gone.
I'm feeling pretty pissed off today, so apologies. I'm not sure why we're surprised Republicans don't care about this illness. - It kills the old far faster than just removing Social Security would - It kills the sick and uninsured far faster than removing healthcare would (I mean, they applauded letting unisured people die in the streets in recent memory) - It kills libtards in New York and Los Angeles and other urban crowded areas - It kills people of color and the working poor at high rates - It kills people that travel to China and Europe and other non-Disney locations I mean, this Trump virus thing is just more winning as far as his base is concerned
Sorry, when I say "cannot", I mean "cannot with a logical foundation" I know there's no physical barrier to anyone saying anything. And trust me, as a working scientist that's spent his entire career working in domains that the Republicans see as conspiracies, I'm well aware of their disdain for science and scientists, even when that science comes from branches of government that they usually claim to have a hard-on for.
