It started at 4 a.m. Pacific. I overslept and stumbled over to check the score on my computer. It said USA 3 POR 1 at HT. I said to myself "This stupid Internet thing is always wrong!" I assumed it was a mistake, and the score was really 3-1 Portugal.

I can’t imagine being a quarantined single mom with a baby or young toddler. I think literally any other configuration would be easier. You have my empathy. How do you stay sane?

Gov Newson spoke to the mental and emotional toll of this hole-up. In fact it was the main point of his address today. I am still ok. My family is ok to mild complaints but no serious cabin fever symptoms. Of course it has not been that long since it started but so far so good even tho we have had a family in our extended family have this this thing go through them with many being ok and one fatality. But she had many underlying conditions.

You see the reports, califonians are doing their bit and it is showing in the numbers and the curve flattening to the point we are lending respirators to other states. Even New York says that their numbers of new cases are slowing so I do not think it will be too long until this dark cloud passes. maybe a couple of months more out our lives. We can do that. Not like we have a choice I know but mentally and emotionally. We are not gonna like but we can deal with it without a meltdown.

What keeps me going is not sharing my concerns and fears with those around me. Especially the younger set and kids. Stay safe everybody.

I'm not a fan of Governor Hair Gel, but I think he's done a pretty good job under the circumstances. Kudos!

As I am a 75 year old male, I feel like I have a bull's eye around me. I actually began self isolation early, (before it became chic) March 13, so it is just a few days short of a month for me. I have a good friend with whom I play music and she has visited me a few times so that helps with the boredom, and there is so much more to learn about my instrument. Since I never paid for any of the pay TV channels, I have been able to do a lot of catch up now that stuff is being made available for free. I have just started watching "The Sopranos" for example.

I will pass along a book suggestion, although I am always loathe to do that since tastes are so idiosyncratic.
Currently reading "The Presidential Fringe" by Mark Stein, He is the same guy who wrote the shape of the States series for the history channel (And is not to be confused with the TV talking head of the same name)
The book covers the history of fringe presidential candidates and tries to figure out why certain ones caught the public's interest, and what that reveals about the country at those times. I am afraid I am making it sound "heavy" whereas it is actually very funny and entertaining.

Electronic access to the LA Public Library and the Los Angeles County Library is a godsend. So much free stuff. I found that there are still a few Carl Hiaasen books that I haven't read yet. And while I almost never re-read things, I am giving serious thought to starting over with the Terry Patchett Discworld books.

Have not posted anything here in a while because of the obvious. I check in periodically to see how all of you are doing. I think we will soldier thru this. But please be careful, prudent, safe and healthy. I do not want to live thru the pandemic and find I am the last man standing. But I have extra eye-glasses just in case.

Glad you are staying safe and busy. And extra points for the reference to the greatest Twilight Zone episode of all time.

which is? (So many TZ’s were space themed. I vaguely remember one where astronaut is stuck alone on a planet except for a robot girlfriend.)

C-19 shit continues to hit the fan - Grant Wahl just fired from ESPN. No warning, no severance.

I believe TH and Cadaver are referencing the Burgess Meredith episode, "Time Enough at Last".

    That's too bad.

A bit strange for me, as I never usually watch NFL outside the Superbowl, but I actually watched a couple LA Wildcat games out of curiosity. I found it pretty exciting and interesting, including when the LA QB told the offensive coordinator to basically take a hike on live TV on a split screen shot.

On what basis? If the ESPN management tweet was close to accurate (I have no knowledge of ESPN or Disney cutbacks), then I can see them having some rational for firing him. Better Grant than some janitors making just over minimum wage.

What I'm hearing is they asked everyone to take permanent 30% cuts, not just pay cuts during this crisis. I'm also always biased against giant corporations. I also think it's a dick move for a company to publicly discuss internal salary and contract negotiations. FYI - I think this is Sports Illustrated, not ESPN.

I stand corrected, SI is now owned by Mavan. Mavan has as its CEO the guy who ran Scout.com (some say into the ground, others are more outspoken).

Having said that, all print and many online media companies are suffering from a loss of advertising revenue and were downsizing before the pandemic made things worse.
