CA is still few months ahead, I think the fate of the tourney is still up on the air, depend on how this corona thing progress. Simeone sure knows how to beat those English clubs. Even Chelsea only beat them twice in 7 meets. Klopp sounded salty just like Liverpool fans, saying Altetico only played counter attack and defending the whole time. I suppose he never watch Atletico game in last 10 years...?
German Pezzella is the first Argentine footballer to contract the corona virus COVID-19: MORE POSITIVE TESTSACF Fiorentina announces that footballers Patrick Cutrone and German Pezzella and physiotherapist Stefano Dainelli also underwent tests, as they were showing some symptoms. All 3 resulted positive and are in good health at their homes in Florence. pic.twitter.com/V1Ru70irMK— ACF Fiorentina English (@ACFFiorentinaEN) March 14, 2020
Currently out with an ACL injury Ezequiel Garay confirms he too has tested positive for the coronavirus pic.twitter.com/OIGGw4SJpS— GOLAZO (@golazoargentino) March 15, 2020 I mean not that it isn't everywhere at this point but having a lot of our guys in current hotspots like Spain and Italy isn't great.
Copa America moved to next year...
I guess the Olympics need to move as well. Only thing that will make sense but I wonder about the age thing then, some of those players might then not be eligible for the U23. I think... Meanwhile in Russia, things are just going as is. Coronavirus, vat coromovirus, comrade? Take 1 shot of vodka and everything is good.
Hopefully, they will keep the same rule (born on or after 1 January 1997) if the Olympics gets moved to say 2021.
Regardless the new schedule, obviously everyone's safety would be priority. I'd prefer it moved to the end of this year though.
I guess one positive is that we may have new CB’s by 2021. Otamendi is a walking disaster. And now, we may get some new faces in, hopefully. A bit of shame still, we were looking improved but if we manage to win the CA a year before the World Cup will be a major boost. Even Messi has looked hurt for the last couple of months. Now, he’ll get rest through this pandemic.
New kit leaked. Pretty awful but gotta hope we get to see them wearing this sooner rather than later.
So, everything back home is going to be on lockdown. Yesterday, Fatso left Turin so he could fly back home. Coincidence? I think not.
This looks interesting... You know, now that you mention it, maybe we can set up a little viewing party with @Burr , @Moishe , @argentine soccer fan to watch this together: What do you say, fellas?
Due to the Tokyo Olympics being postponed til 2021, many Argentine footballers who were going to participate in the tournament will now be forced to watch from home since they will surpass the 23-year age limit when the event takes place (unless the Olympic committee announces some sort of unprecedented exception). Those to miss out due to postponement include: Gonzalo Montiel (River) Matias Vargas (Espanyol) Santiago Ascacíbar (Hertha Berlin) Marcos Senesi (Feyenoord) Santiago Cáseres (Villarreal) Santiago Colombatto (St. Truiden) Ezequiel Ponce (AEK Atenas) Facundo Cambeses (Banfield) Claudio Bravo (Banfield) Hernan de la Fuente (Velez) Juan Brunetta (Godoy Cruz) Gaston Togni (Independiente) Leonel Mosevich (Argentinos Jrs. / C.D. Nacional) Lucas Robertone (Velez)
Stay-at-home has you feeling angsty, eh sunshine? Relax.... peor es perder una final con tu rival eterno estando 3 veces arriba. So... what’s everybody been watching around these parts? Besides the stinkin news that is...
Well I hope you are all keeping well. Especially NY Cosmos in NY. I'm stuck at home being in a vulnerable category (chronic asthmatic). With the Olympics they may rearrange to allow those who could have played at this tournament the opportunity to play next year as it might be unfair on their dreams. And they are going to call it Tokyo 2020 regardless. Leo has generously donated a large sum of money to the care of the affected. Buenos Aires needs to be careful given the number of old people there but as the disease spreads the demographics of who it affects show the young and healthy can also die as a result. So be careful. You can watch Asif Kapadia's film Maradona. Which shows how after he asked the Neapolitans to support Argentina in 1990 the authorities turned on him in a major way and his entanglement with the Camorra. What was particularly shocking was the racism directed from those in the north of Italy to the Naples fans. The dirty unwashed. Heres a British Pathe film of a game between San Lorenzo & Boca from 1971. Same sort of sentiments from fans from here in England to those commenting. How nice the shirts are without sponsors and how the players are playing for the shirt and not mercenaries. Tagliafico has been linked to Chelsea with Alonso potentially on the move whenever this season ends. This should be in the Hockey thread and I will post it there but a great moment from Rio 2016 talking about the Olympics. The gold medal win from the mens team. What support as well and a stirring rendition of the anthem. As I said take care and the sensible precautions. Politicians have completely ballsed this up by not having the brain capacity to understand the science and not enacting lockdowns earlier. Wet markets which are barbaric anyway also need to be shut down permanently across SE Asia and China otherwise we will have a new pandemic of a different cross species jumping virus again. Saludos amigos.
After 2 weeks without football , I ended up watching more old footage and found this. 2 best strikers of 90s and early 2000s , they just clicked as if they've played together for years. Scores and assisted each other, even Zidane could do nothing at 2:22-2:30
These two videos, one for Maradona and one for Messi, are among the best made for them (watch with volume, at least the Messi one b/c it has commentary). I have watched probably over 300 of Maradona’s full games, but there was some footage in here that I hadn’t seen before. Otherwise, it is extremely boring without live football. I am not much of a TV/Movies guy — and other than games, I don’t really watch much of anything else. Have been watching old videos.
Anybody see The English Game on Netflix? It sounds really interesting and it's by the same guy that did Downton Abbey, except it's about the early days of football when it was seen as a gentleman's sport and they didn't want the riffraff playing it. I'll probably check it out this weekend. For those that haven't seen it, the Tevez docudrama (also on Netflix) was a fun watch, even if I had a few nitpicks here and there, gives a good idea of what he went through in his youth.
Indeed, it is pretty boring without sports. Sometimes I forgot how much sports consumes my life. I would’ve been watching March Madness right now, or in a couple weeks the NHL and NBA playoffs. Not to mention futbol, tennis and etc. It was meant to be great summer with sports but now it is nothing. I think the NBA and NHL should just call this season a wash and just pick up in the fall, if they even can. But that is fine, I think sports can take a backseat until the dust settles. It’s funny seeing these sports owners saying April of May we can start up again. People don’t even want to go to restaurants anymore, you think they’ll want to go to a sporting event? Even if it’s behind closed doors, I don’t think the players will want to play. Ive tried to watch new series' but it really is hard to commit. I’ve been watching Better Call Saul, and just older HBO shows that I’ve seen. The last show I committed to be from start to finish was Mad amen, which was fantastic. I guess I’ll wait for Ozarks on Netflix to start up again or Bosch on Amazon Prime.
It's weird because I didn't consider myself that big of a sports addict since I'm into very nerdy stuff too, but now that it's gone I realize all the random stuff I would watch besides my soccer and hockey teams. One thing I've been doing on weekend mornings is watching replays of 2nd division games in England since I don't know the results of them, lol.
