My strategy is playing with line of 3 in defense with a DM (Monti) supporting in defense, he will move back to make a line of 4 when we are attacking for side, meanwhile our sides backs move to the side where we are defending. In the middle we have a line of 4, with Czibor and Juninho Pernambucanotrying to open the rival's defense, Bozsik is the left side to supporting the defense of this side, help to Czibor in this side and Socrates are the right side for support the attacking of right side. In he front, Di Stefano go down some meters for help in the creation and Kocsis have the function to fix the center backs of @msioux75

now christiano is back, it’s time to attack

this is a 433 that becomes a narrow 441 compact in defence in deep positions but applying pressure high up the pitch in key areas

Im trying to stop the supply to his wide players and attack his centre backs with pace and power from runners and the clever runs of greaves

greaves could play deeper as well as be on the last man as one of the best poachers of all time, allowing someone fluidity with the forward players

defensively Adams is my stopper, Koeman my sweeper. Two leaders and top centre halves of the last 30 years. Adams will not lose a battle aerially and provides a threat from set pieces. Koeman can play long balls to my wide players running in behind

Petit is my holding player, very overlooked here even though he’s won more than most and was able to hold when vieira went forward for France and arsenal

Kroos is recognised as one of the best passing cms ever and a press breaker with his patented dribble pass fake

iniesta provides creativity moving freely round the pitch but showing tenacious work rate when pressuring the ball. He will pass to start moves, keep the ball in high pressure areas to draw defenders into space. A capable dribbler too able to find openings

Cole will man mark Jairzinho and Cafu will protect us from his marauding left back and simonsen, who he is quicker and stronger than

Ronaldo is able to run in behind and dribble at players, coming in more narrow to shooting positions

best is my right winger who plays in the half space

looking to get to the byline and get opportunities on goal. He is able to swap positions with Ronaldo

we will constrict play if given time and launch quick counters when retrieving the ball deep, Koeman can venture forward when given space to pass from a deeper midfield position when able but kroos and iniesta are my primary playmakers

I want my fullbacks to work more like wing backs getting up and down overlapping my wide players when they come inside

Koeman will take free kicks, Adams is captain, Ronaldo takes Pens

I want my fullbacks to swing my corners in with pace

Khan is to distribute short but go for Ronaldo aerially with long kicks

I present a team with a historical defensive line and a midfield-attack very well balanced in defensive-offensive, and also with extraordinary abilities of playmaking including passing, dribbling, physical strength and versatility.

    Formation 4-3-3
    [IMG]
My tactic is simple ... my midfield will impose the rhythm of the game since they are better players and around them I have players with high performance in the distribution of the ball and playmaking skills such as Jairzinho, Nilton Santos, Alan Hansen, Boniek and Vogts.

I have a balanced team ... Gerson and Gullit have a very good defensive capacity but both will have full authority to attack, at their convenience.

Boniek and Jairzinho will connect perfectly with my midfield due their versatile capability for play as wingers but also for centralize the game thanks their playmaking skills, making the tactic in a dymanic one. As well Luis Suárez I think will read the movements and key passes from his teammates and also will provide vision and spaces to them for create goal oportunnities. We are going to take advantage with the weakness of the central-duo of my opponent.

According to my defensive line … will provide a remarkable distribution of the ball. On the other hand, Nilton Santos and Berti Vogts were phenomenon-class to stop great individual players such as Garrincha, Cruyff, etc. So, there is no concern with Best and CR7. Good luck to Jimmy Greaves because he will be stopped by Hansen and Desailly and will have no chances.

My tactic will be a 3-4-3, able to turn into a 4-3-3, playing a dynamic style to exploit free spaces.

Since my opponent is attacking with 1 FW and a half, I think is enough a back-3, to hold superiority in this area, with Zanetti able to play a bit forward, especially to mark Czibor, even he's playing from 3/4 of the pitch. I put between the sticks, my tallest and strong GK to control air balls.

In the midfield, all my players have the movility, football-IQ and skills to control the game. Lahm will take care of Juninho, who is more a side playmaker than a winger, or he moves himself, acording the situation, using his great reading of the game. Zizinho and Moreno are two maestros in the creation, but also with high workrate.

My front three will be a nightmare to JJMM's defensive line. I prefered to lineup a true LW, since Andrade is placed in a back-3 (pure defender), not an usual role for him, who enjoyed more freedom to join attack in his playing days. Joya brings to the game: strength, pace, goals and workrate.

    To face @OT_CAPITANO I go with 3-5-2 that can become a 4-4-2.

    Captain: SCIREA
    Penalty Takers: CHARLTON or IBRAHIMOVIC
Free-Kick Takers: BECKHAM, RIVALDO or IBRAHIMOVIC
    Corner Takers: BECKHAM or RIVALDO

The 3-men defensive line ahead of Buffon continues with the same idea, with Scirea as sweeper behind Ramos and Thuram, but acting as the first distributor (depending on the opponent's high pressing). Cabrini will play as wing-back to press on the opponent's right flank, however, he can go back to rearm a 4-men defensive line if necessary (Charlton could form a single line alongside Pirri positioning Davids on the left for a double line of 4).

Pirri and Davids will again form a tireless duo for recovery, deployment and offensive projection, this time supported by a hard-working attacking-midfielder as Charlton (with an eye on his middle distance shot) and a tactically necessary side midfielder with Beckham, to rebuild plays on the sideline, maintain possession, press on the rival wing-back (if my rival plays with one) and have a precise launcher for the attack (an essential reason why Ibrahimovic remains as a moving forward).

Rivaldo will play as a creative/floating attacker, mostly from the left to press on that sector, connecting with Charlton and penetrating as a lever with Ibrahimovic pulling marks.

I'm preferring at this point to set out my full selection and tactics, and will add any desired clarifications (and feasible adjustments within the basic system - especially as I am the home team!) in the final 24 hours, when La-Máquina will be adding his tactics in full possibly (although as Peru said in theory he submitted enough already, and the style of play and system is already evident):

Teamsheet for Match Day 2 fixture vs @La-Máquina (home)
1: Peter Shilton; 2: Jorginho, 6: Alessandro Costacurta, 16: Fernando Hierro, 3: Bixente Lizarazu; 14: Jean Tigana, 4: Patrick Vieira; 10: Ferenc Puskas, 8: Dennis Bergkamp, 18: Michael Laudrup; 9: Ronaldo
    PDGvsLa-Maq(h).png

    Captain - Hierro
    Penalty Taker - Puskas
Indirect free-kick and corner takers - 1st choice Bergkamp, alternative choice Laudrup
Direct free-kick takers - 1st choice Ronaldo, alternative choice Hierro

    Tactical approach
We are looking to combine a focused and tenacious defensive effort with composed (which doesn't mean slow-paced) play when in possession. The aim is to deny time and space to La-Maquina's attackers by trying to give them close attention when they receive the ball. Costacurta and Hierro will deal with Messi with a joint effort, with one of them covering the other (but also keeping an eye on Zico's runs into the box), but Costacurta is the one who is to track the false 9 and attempt to win the ball soon after he receives it, or if not possible try to keep goal side while shepherding him away or forcing him to make a backward pass. Fouls are not encouraged but tackles are. When he moves back into midfield then mostly they wouldn't be following him though, and instead Tigana and especially Vieira would look to pick him up and disrupt him. On the other hand Tigana and Vieira will combine in their own joint efforts in denying Zico space in the hole and in midfield, while also of course playing an active role as general midfield players in building up our attacks. Tigana can use his energy and running ability to follow Zico, but especially Vieira will be tasked with covering the hole in front of the defence and making tackles on Zico as soon as feasible. They are reminded that blocking off passing avenues can also be a good tactic though. Tigana will generally err a bit towards the right side if anything, and so will be able to help close down the space for Ronaldinho too, and aid Jorginho in keeping him at bay. Vieira is asked to take the ball down and retain possession using his skills and long legs whenever feasible after a loose ball, and Tigana will also be looking to use his silky skills and elusiveness to help begin attacks and passing moves when we gain possession. So overall in the defensive section of the pitch we aim to be alert, but also calm and progressive in possession.

Puskas has an attacking role from the right side, whereby he is allowed to stay high up the pitch in general and look to play a lot in the inside right channel, while also taking advantage of any space Roberto Carlos might leave behind him. He will be aiming to cut inside onto his left, and combine with team-mates to create shooting opportunities for himself or others. Bergkamp can move around between the midfield and Ronaldo, and is the conductor of our attacking play. Him and Laudrup are encouraged to find Ronaldo with their array of quality passes whenever he is in good space. Ronaldo himself will be allowed to drop into space to receive the ball and make things happen by running with it and using his skills. Laudrup will be looking to use the left wing a lot, and create things via his vision and/or dribbling himself. Tigana and/or Vieira will look to join in at times in the final third. The forward players, as in the previous game, will be trying to help the team effort by closing down players/space (and helping each other in that respect) as well as plugging gaps and tracking back into the midfield (especially Bergkamp and Laudrup, while Puskas has more of a free rein to play in attack as stated, with Tigana erring to the right behind him, but can take it upon himself to make calls to help out when he thinks it is a good idea).

My formation for this match is a 3-1-4-2 or a 3-5-2 if you will

This team is setup to perfectly counter most if not all my rival has to offer.

    DEFENSE:

Line of 3 with Krol as a sweeper behind Schnellinger and Cannavaro. We will have high defensive line to press in midfield and to push Zlatan as much as possible out of the box to make him less lethal. Cannavaro will man-mark Rivaldo to avoid him having any influence in attack. Schnellinger will dance with Zlatan the whole match and Krol in that sweeper role to clean up any mistakes.

    our defensive setup:

    MIDFIELD:
Sammer will have to be the one defending Charlton, pressure him and make him feel uncomfortable. his dynamic, fast paced style is ideal to make Charlton uncomfortable.

Davids and Pirri will be running and pressuring the whole match on that note i made sure i put 2 players who are strong, can defend, attack, pressure and not be bullied easily but have the quality to make the difference upfront Didi who is the mastermind of this team and Seedorf 2 players capable of having the ball possesion and make my rival run like he anticipated.

On the wings we have 2 battles. Beckham which is my rivals biggest offensive card coming into this match will have to deal with Giacinto Faccheti in which the italian has everything in his favour. on the other side Giggs will be the one battling with Cabrini heavyweight battle for sure but its more of a tactical one for me. Giggs will have to make sure that Cabrini stays put if he losses his focus and his man... Giggs will own that lane. and Cabrini will not be able to help in defence which will be the key

    ATTACK:

Here is where i made sure to gain a major advantage

I noticed that my rival has a minor weakness in his defence... which is Sergio Ramos...a player that is a leader, can score important goals, and will will always put in everything hes got...but on the same note he is sloppy, losses focus easily and is playing in a position which he can perform in but is not comfortable in which is LCB in a line of 3 without help from anyone (Cabrini will be too busy with Giggs and Davids will be too busy with Didi) leaving him ALONE with arguably the best player in history which is PELE. Klinsmann on the other side will be playing at the back of Thuram. making runs, creating space keeping Thuram and Scirea busy so Pele can have fun with Ramos

    ....

PS: My rival also stated that his team could switch to a 4-4-2

in that case with Bobby Charlton in that line of 4 Sammer would be 100% off marking duties he could play the old school offensive sweeper type with runs forward to open spaces for that Didi-Pele connection which is the key to this match

    - Heavy playmaking bias down the left half with my French Contingent supported by my two playmakers, Blanchflower and Beckenbauer
    - Right half is "off-the-ball" with Kempes cutting inside to attack the box and Alves having all the space on the right to himself to provide unmatched productivity.
    - Mackay and Kohler placed on the right to protect the defensively weaker and ultra attacking right flanker.

I'm thinking that Tom meant original line-up (& tactics) from the ranking thread mate, not his line-up from the first game:

So I guess this diagram is the one that shows Plan A, but for this fixture he picks Jarni, as Junior is banned by you.

Ok, I assume this team, but the time to put my line-up starts from this minute, not before, because what I had prepared is no longer useful.

On the other hand, putting J. Cruyff playing to speculate of false 9, is a mistake in THIS game, because I have Figueroa, who has been without a doubt, the best defender in the interpreting the opponent's attack in the history of play. You need ask to G. Muller and the Germany attack 1974 about this. As Bonvallet said (who was a player cited in this World Cup) Figueroa LAS CACHABA TO'AS (Figueroa identifies them all, in reference to the rival's offensive actions).
[IMG] Figueroa the cerebral defender, best interpreter of rival attack in the history.
    VS
    Cruyff the false 9 :ROFLMAO::D;)

MORAL OF A FABLE: It is a mistake, confront a team that has Elías Figueroa with a single striker by the centre area, since those strikers would have the hard mark of Bérgomi and the terrible anticipation of Figueroa, then, they will never get a ball.

[IMG] To Figueroa it is necessary to fasten set/fix him, not to leave him the chain loose.

Given that proposal there is no reason to change to a 4-4-2.

    In defensive function:

Scirea would remain as battitore libero covering the backs of Ramos and Thuram.

Responding to the emphasis on Pelé's penetration, Ramos will make a zonal mark with some aggressiveness in one-on-one situations, always covered by Scirea, before he could get in front of Buffon.

    Offensively:

I hope/pretend to take advantage of some lack of steel in my rival's midfield (Giggs and Didi are probably capable of supporting the tactical mark, but they are not specialists, not even entirely Seedorf, though he held the most similar box-to-box role of all) to be able to occasionally to free Davids or Pirri as an extra attacker, even taking as a possibility that Charlton cover the position.

I dont agree on the fact that my midfield has a "lack of steel" players like Didi although not workhorses like Davids could put in work and defend and pressure if necesarry...Seedorf on the other hand like yoursel commented is a player who can play that box to box role with no problem....and Davids and Pirri cant afford to lose their position as often as you woulf like to imagine

On the Giggs can track back with no issue helping out that backline...the more Cabrini steps forward the more likely he is to get countered upon with giggs speed....

One other thing i forgot to mention is with my high line and lack of offensive pressure from Ibra and Rivaldo...my defensive line can push up easily, starting play from the back, and with the passing quality of players like Schnellinger, Krol and Cannavaro...long balls at the backs of Beckham and Cabrini will be a interesting approach

And commenting on Pele vs Ramos....sergio can do whatever he wants but i dont see him containing Pele...and Scirea can come help thats why Klinsmann is there to use those open spaces your defence gives while covering for Ramos...if he doesnt get a red card first leaving your team with 10

Maybe we should tone down the ‘tactical’ chat in the thread? People saying certain people are the best ever etc or going into mad detail when essentially, not many of these teams would work due to players types operating with each other etc

I personally think it should be a diagram, how you attack and how you defend?

That's what I pointed out. In that repositioning your 3 midfielders could help you in the tactical mark covering the spaces, but none of them is a specialist in the mark, so there would be no particular attention to it constantly, which I think will create opportunities for a sneaky extra attacker to me (I didn't mention it was a frequent possibility, but occasional).

Didi is precisely the one who I think is a little less adept, rather a slightly more advanced playmaker with less defensive influence, while Seedorf I think he is the one that came closest to that capacity as box-to-box, however, as such he played supporting at least one defensive midfielder (Redondo in Real Madrid or Gattuso/Ambrosini in AC Milan), not being him the most defensive of all.

Of course, that's just my opinion on that repositioning.

I'm not sure what idea you base on being able to push back the position of my attackers (previously mentioned), but I must say that my idea to play with Ibrahimovic responds precisely to keep a strong leading receiver for long passes and crosses (I think Zlatan can win in the aerial game, even with acrobatic maneuvers, but he also has the strength to hold his back to enable Rivaldo's overflow or Charlton's projection against your defensive line).

I hope Beckham teach classes on long balls, hehehe.

A player of Pelé's magnitude probably can't be contained by a single personal marker, whoever he's (I'd say something similar about Maradona, even if Gentile or Reyna harassed him, hehehe), that's why I emphasized the layered mark with Scirea behind sweeping in a second stage of containment.

In the equation there is not only Ramos, but also Scirea sweeping and Buffon under the sticks.

On the other hand, Klinsmann is also a latent danger, but it is necessary to name Thuram as another direct defensive wall to deal with.

About Ramos individually, I think could be one of the best markers against offensive machines with so many resources because his aggresive tackling (he doesn't give much time for planning and has bothered players like Messi, which does not mean he can win most duels against forwards of that size).

If he is red carded, I hope it will be after leaving Pelé unusable, as did João Morais in the 1966 World Cup, and agreeing there are no substitutions, hehehe. :D

I'm not sure if it is the best option or the one they want the most. I understand that some would prefer such discussions, althought they don't have much time to spread (I suppose that I'm not the only who is affected by his schedules due to the situation, about the Coronavirus).

I hope I don't sound pretentious up there.

It would be interesting for opinions to focus on the reasons for the votes after the results.

    I propose a 4-4-2

Explanation: If the field is divided from top to bottom into 5 vertical lines, the 4 3 3 system tries to cover the spaces betting on the vertical amplitude and the horizontal equilibrium, however 4-4-2 counteracts the amplitude of the 4 3 3, and proposes players making vertical runs between the lines of 4-3-3. It is also very important to add that compared to the compact and block tour game of the online 4 3 3, I also propose a compact and block tour line game with my 4 4 2.

Numerical superiority in the midfield, in attack attitude: 4 vs 3

    Visual explanation.
Tilting on the left with Brehme entrance on the outside.
Vidal creates spaces by breaking lines through the center, displacing Jarni.
Tilting on the right with L. Enrique entrance on the outside.
Tardelli creates spaces by breaking lines through the center, displacing Maicon.
In defense the amplitude of 4 3 3 is USELESS.
Tom quotes Cruyff to explain his style of play, and Cruyff wants the forwards to open up as much as they can on the field. With my 4 4 2 luxury (it is not about Barcelona vs any team in the Liga), it is not an easy idea, because the scope is covered.
To this must be added the error of playing with a false 9 against a defender like Elías Figueroa, who specifically exploits his full potential, leaving his ability to interpret a rival attack free and freedom to position himself in the midfield.
False 9 exploits Figueroa's defensive abilities.
In addition to Figueroa, behind is Bergomi, that is, the rival striker is two difficult obstacles before the goalkeeper. Rival strikers are so "behind-hand".

    I recommend this beautiful video.
    A. Brehme had a great long pass and crossover.

If Figueroa at the age of 19 made Pelé cry, he disabled Blokhin and ridiculed G. Muller in the area, playing in the World Cup in Germany.
Cruyff of false 9 will be patato to the parrot. False 9 is the worst decision against Figueroa.

Figueroa (19 years old) vs Pelé, dedicated for my European friends. Cruyff will be a piece of cake.
