Not winning the league would be devastating given Salzburg’s recent history. They just got crushed mid week and look to be out of Europa. all this leads to a sacking.
I hope the bosses are smarter than that. This team sold Minamino and J. H. Frickin' Haaland in the winter window. They have to accept that they sold the team out from under the coach.
Each player I believe had clauses. If the clause was activated and personal terms agreed to not much they can do about it. I think the board and coach are well aware of that. Marsch is fine. My guess is he spends another year there then moves to the parent club when their current coach gets snapped up by Bayern or some other top club.
Definitely. Salzburg, when they crashed out of CL, knew they were sending their stars on in the winter. Just like Dortmund know that Haaland isn't staying for more than 1.5 seasons, and might be gone at the end of this one. I hope to see Jesse move on soon, beating up on the bottom half of the Austrian Bundesliga isn't going to move him up in the world. Nagelsmann probably isn't going anywhere soon enough, he might need to leave the RB fold.
This is true, and you'd hope that it is understood that selling two fantastic players during the winter can at least lead to a stumble or two in the second half, RBS remains so much richer than every other club in the Austrian bund than any other club that the board might not feel as much sympathy as we think they should. Without the two now lost boys, RBS wasn't nearly as fun in the CL, but they should still be stomping all over their league. Their roster remains far and away the most talented in Austria, and it isn't really close. OTOH, the boards primary lament at this point is probably "why didn't we set Haaland's exit clause at eleventy bajillion, someone would have paid it this summer..." Back to YA notions, EPB is doing quite well, and I hope he finds a place to call home this summer (because his value to City as sale item drops a lot if he goes on another year long loan, which would end with only six months of exclusivity on his contract. That said, for YAs, Marsch's success is probably as or more important than any indvidiual player. Managers have much longer careers than players, after all.
I mean Salzburg or ANY Austrian team just doesn't have the bargaining power to set release causes super high. Foreign players go there to launch into another league. I guess the big regret with Haaland that they could prevent in the future is having the exit clause kick in after a certain period of time (at least one year).
I think Marsch already has a job lined up unofficially in the Bundesliga or EPL. Too many teams need coaches and the RB coaching tree has been extremely successful. The Austrian season is not a straight season like England or Germany. They have a playoff round and where you finish is not that important. Points carry over but only half the amount. So, if they finish behind LASK by 2 points, it is less than a game. Marsch might be using his MLS experience and resting for the playoffs ;-) EPB is playing very well. Not sure why Kreis was scouting him as I don't see AW releasing him for three weeks as he is an important player for them. I think that would be in the playoff round too. That Gregg was in Mexico meeting with Alvarado and Kreis was in Vienna probably is not a sign that EPB is being considered for the USMNT, as he probably should be for this window. Of course, Kreis might be scouting for Miami or any of his other employers and might not even have been looking at EPB wearing that hat. EPB has, for whatever reason, not featured for any USSF teams since Sarachan left.
Just for the record, I wasn't seriously suggesting a release clause of eleventy bajillion. That's what Dortmund will get. But also, I think Salzburg had the bargaining power to negotiate pretty much whatever they wanted with the kid from Molde, who was quite talented, but wasn't a sure thing to ever attract 40 million (10x his purchase price in a year, not bad). I would suggest that the release clause was set in an "as if" manner. They could have insisted on double that, but what would be the point, the thinking last winter would have been. He's not an Mbappe level player.

EPB looks to have settled in. I hope he gets called in March and gets some PT. Would like to see him tried next to Brooks. I think the last two loans should have shown he’s a capable player. I hope the next one is a step up. Maybe Germany?
Or, a transfer... Hamburger SV or VfB Stuttgart would be an option. I’d even consider Schalke, linking him with Wagner and McKennie, and he might could crack in there.
A transfer would be welcome too but I suspect they want to see if he can step up to the next level first. If he can do well in Germany the money they get for a sale will be significantly higher.
I think it has been but I haven’t watched him play just seen he’s getting playing time. I don’t think it will be his final destination. He’s got one more stop in a little higher of a level to decide his final selling price. Hopefully he gets a chance in Germany. I think he will do well there. Once he has that, if he does well enough, I suspect he gets his permanent home.
I hope he rebounds well. I'm still pulling for him to prove himself. Even if he only plays for midtable clubs in Netherlands or Austria or Belgium, he might be good depth for others in the squad.
Just the top stuff on youtube. He's clearly has athleticism above where his USMNT competitors top out. And he's pretty skillful with the ball at his feet. Not sure what his issue is/has been.
A touch of the Jozy Altidore's, maybe? Like Jozy, he seems like a perfectly decent, well-adjusted guy that you'd be happy to see your daughter dating. They seem to lack the mean streak that propels the very talented to the very top. Bobby Collins was a Scottish great midfielder in the 50s and late 60s for Celtic, Everton and then Leeds. At Leeds, when a player came through or was signed and the veterans were rating him, Collins' way of cutting to the chase was to ask "would he kill his granny to win game?" An exaggeration, yes, and even then it's not acceptable on a human level, but it's a cut-throat business and that kind of single-minded ruthlessness is what it takes.
Well, he did well enough to nail his spot in a mid-table Austrian BuLi team. That's more or less equivalent to doing well in a mid-table 2.BuLi team. Not spectacular, but not terrible for a 23 year old.
Do you mean the full game all touches from his time at vitesse? I just watched one. Lots of misplaced passed on his part but also looked like his team just got overrun all game. Hard to take much away from any of that.
