Santa Clara County recently banned all large events. In light of this and other considerations, MLS has postponed games in San Jose, and also in Seattle. The email from the FO:

In full support of the county’s mandate, we will reschedule our home match against Sporting Kansas City, originally set for March 21, to a future date that will be determined later. Your tickets for March 21 will work on the new match date. Contact the Account Service Team at (408) 556-7700, option 1 with specific questions.

Wash your hands! Stay healthy! The team can't afford to lose any fans.

Should have known that Seattle invented postponing games. :)

When the Seattle Sounders announced Wednesday that its game against FC Dallas on March 21st had been postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, it became the first major soccer team in the U.S. to substantially alter its season based on the pandemic that is impacting life and sport around the world.

The San Jose Earthquakes followed suit a few hours later when the club announced that it postponed its March 21st home match against Sporting Kansas City. As first reported by The Athletic, MLS got in on the act later on Wednesday, announcing that, beginning this weekend, all of its teams must fly privately to and from all road matches. That mandate will stay in place for the foreseeable future. More announcements in similar veins will likely be on the way over the next weeks . . .

The NBA season is nearly over. And the NHL, despite a similar calendar, has not responded in kind. MLS can wait out another month or so without cancelling its season.

All it took for the NBA was a player to get COVID. The Nebraska NCAA team may be next since it looks their coach has it which could put the already closed door NCAA tourney in jeopardy.

MLS, USL and MLB are likely to suffer a major disruption if not cancellation.

If the disruption affects the distribution of grain, we're in for a revolution: Now circuses, next bread?

Why, we will just exit any hiatus with the same players?

Caution is one thing, fear/panic another. Why postpone the match when they could have easily switched the location to SKC?

Came here to post just that. Probably wise - I'll be curious to see how long this actually is in place.

A 30-day suspension is not the "rest of the entire" MLS season, as you predicted. Partial vindication, maybe. :)

I hold out hope that we will still see live Quakes footie in 2020.

Suddenly have some free time on my hands. The quakes should stream the 2012 season in real time.

That's the right thing to do and it is good they set a duration to allow evaluation and further communication.

I wonder if the players will still practice during the 30-day suspension. The season just finished two weeks and with the stoppage, it will basically be a restart and another season opener.

I hope to see the Quakes win again in 2020. I don't want my memory of 2020 season to limit to one draw with a wonderful free kick goal and a horrible loss aka Ike Opera horror show.

That depends on how long the suspension is. If they end up shortening the season, like they did in 2001, we’ll end up playing fewer games, and thus have fewer losses. And if we miss a lot of the season, contracts will still expire at the end of ‘20, and therefore we’ll be able to get new players for ‘21! ;)

I’m both joking and trying to look on the bright side here. :(

I realize that covid-19 is serious, and that when it’s one of your friends or relatives, it’s a massive bummer. (Three of my friends have died in the last year, two more had life-threatening illnesses. I feel your pain.)

Nevertheless, when we look at the data from South Korea, where we have the best data, most people tested, and so on; the lethality rate is 0.7%, or just slightly worse than regular flu. Bad yes, but this isn’t a nineteenth century typhoid pandemic. Countries with fewer healthcare resources could get hammered hard. That would suck big time. Canceling sporting events and mass gatherings is perfectly prudent, but this isn’t like a massive outbreak of Ebola. We should panic less. And part of our problem here in the USA is self-inflicted stupidity. We have made some serious unforced errors.

Yes, this is bad to be sure. There are more cases in Santa Clara County than where I live, but still, we’ve got at least one case here. (Piss poor media coverage. I’d bet more than one case, but local news here is weak.) I’m not trying to make light of this, but let’s freak out a little less.

I wish for good health and well being for all of you in this forum and the wider community in general.

    Go Quakes!!
    Go Quakesfans!!

Can we not call it the Wuhan Flu? Please? Recriminations are not productive at this time.
