Yes, definitely. I am still in awe that we were able to sign him, but, have my doubts we will be able to keep him here very long. I just think our ownerships passion and ambition is going to fall far short of his.
It's like we were gifted Rembrandt, and have given him a small box of crayons to create his next masterpiece.:(

When Almeyda signed with the Quakes he was the second-highest paid coach in MLS. Now, with the new influx of big-name coaches, he probably ranks somewhere around 6th or 7th in the league.

Yes, I'm going to be that guy. If you're suggesting you can't create an artistic masterpiece with crayons, I'll have to disagree. Not the best comparison. Art isn't results driven the way sports are (although it's not as if there's no overlap between sports and artistic endeavors).

Also, Almeyda isn't perfect. I like the guy well enough as a coach, but I think it's a good idea to always be skeptical, and never elevate people to statuses that are unwarranted. Human beings make mistakes, even under the best circumstances. Could the team have better players? Sure. But Almeyda probably could have done better than he did with those same player. I don't think the gap in talent player to player is so drastically different in most circumstances that there weren't still gains to be made.

A second year with largely the same roster will give us some more info on this.

Yeah, you seem to always be that guy. ;)
No, I am sure some people could make nice works of art with crayons, yet, think what they could do with better materials. I am just saying we are not taking the best advantage of Almeyda, and at some point we will likely rue the lost opportunity.

Let’s enjoy it while it’s here, that’s what he seems to be doing. He claims to be happy with the plan, so I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he can make this work. Keep attacking and play exciting soccer and I’m pretty happy to watch. Winning is kind of fun too.....

I am optimistic that he can get this squad to punch above its weight, I just think at some point he will get frustrated with our ownership and he will leave for "greener" pastures.

Please noooooo.......I’m hoping he’ll wait for the kids to develop. He recently said he’d sign a 10 year contract if offered. I hope he meant that.

If he thinks the major limiting factor with regard to their competitiveness stems from the lack of roster budget, then perhaps. I'm not sure he thinks that at all, and if he likes the environment he's coaching in, that could outweigh his desire to only win. Despite Fisher's limited budgets, I have never gotten the sense that his staff haven't enjoyed working for his teams. There is a reason he's had very limited turnover on the ops side of his teams. Sure, there was a spell where the Quakes changed coaches a number of times, but that was atypical. And at the executive level, it's been pretty stable. I don't consider Kaval going to Oakland as turnover considering we're talking about the same owner here.

In other words, would I be surprised if Almeyda wants to challenge himself by coaching for another team, and he leaves after another year or two? No, not really. Would I be surprised if he ended up coaching the Quakes for the better part of a decade? No, that wouldn't surprise me in the least.

From what I have read, he seemed a bit testy during his post game press conference.

Do you think he's confronted Jesse and Fisher and said something along the lines of "looked I got the most out of these guys I can, let me go out and get some players that will make an impact."....

We as fans really never know what goes on behind the closed doors....just once would like to be the proverbial "fly on the wall" to hear what actually goes on in the front office meetings.

I'm sure the subject has come up at least once. With the Euro transfer windows closed until June, they can't go after anyone from Europe that is under contract. Maybe a free agent but most of the good players are signed to their clubs.

Our only hope until June is to go after some player in Mexico or South America. Don't know who but that is the only option. There are 14 games left from now until then. Looks like its going to be a long are 3 months!

But he hasn't yet. He's not even starting the best players yet. He did the same thing last year, so lets see how he adjusts. He seems to like digging out of holes more than I do though.

Who are the best players? The only one who is really only good is Florian. Fierro hasn’t really impressed as of yet so who else is left?

He or management seems to be pulling a 2019 and wanting to phase out Wondo. I’m pretty sure if you give Chris time, he will score until he is 40 but if he doesn’t play , he won’t score. Other than Wondo who we all know what he can bring, I don’t see anyone else that can come in and lift us. Maybe Lopez & Judson?

I would put Flo in for Kashia or move to a three back system.

I would put Judson in for Magnus.

I would move Vako back to left mid or put Shea there.

I would start Wondo or Hoesen up front for Rios and perhaps move Rios as the width drawn forward (or play more midfielders which opens back up to Magnus or someone else).

Not sure but I believe Judson is hurt. Wondo , until he gets his opportunity to start and score goals again, is being phased out. Same as last season and pattern is evident.

Magnus so far is reverting back to his 2018 Stahre ways....

Judson was in the 18 for the Minnesota game. He is probably recovered but not yet full-game fit. He warmed up in front of my seats and appeared fine. Indeed, we exchanged smiles and thumbs ups. I could tell you more if I spoke Portuguese. :)
