Btw, off topic but interesting: A new low in German women's football. No German TV station will broadcast their games at the Algarve Cup.

At least there was a livestream of the game against Sweden today on DFB-TV. After watching this game which Germany won 1:0 I think Japan should hope that Sweden will be the European team they have to play in the group stage at the Olympic Games.

First off, welcome to the Nadeshiko thread. So there is some way to watch. Apparently Spiegel-online was not aware of that (or I missed it in the article). But still, it seems there is a new all-time low in interest in the women's game. But they were playing well, it seems?

Manchester Nadeshiko - You will be pleased to know that the game is being broadcast on the BBC. I think it is just on the iPlayer / website, but they are showing it from 21:05.

DFB has published the information about the livestream only some hours before the game and they said that it is not sure that the other two games will be streamed.
Obviously there is a problem with the Portuguese federation who has the rights for the Algarve Cup. Another problem could be that a DFB-Pokal quarterfinal(men) was shown on television which started one hour after the kick-off of the Algarve match.
Not qualifying for the Olympic Games was also not helpful to create more interest in women`s football in Germany. At least the national team will remain among the best teams in the world in the next years thanks to good young players.

It is probably the only game I can realistically watch here too.

The three games start times are as follows here in Japan:
    0615
    0315
    0900

I would not be surprised if Japan did not win a match here. These are all tough opposition, so it is a good test early in the season. But remember that last year the US did not look that good in this tournament, but got it by the world cup. I can see Spain and England beating the US.

I do not really like the way Spain play (too cynical), but I think they are the national team to look out for in the coming years. I could be wrong of course about this.

Will anybody record the games? No problem if nobody is, but the coverage is usually pretty good, so it is nice to watch these games back.

Thanks.....Nadeshiko v Spain is on BBC Red Button 2 from 21.05 for those able to get it (on line?)
(USA v England is being shown in UK on mainstream TV...BBC 2... 23.40) Local time

Been a good while since our last Nadeshiko 'fix'...hope we get a good game.My only hope from this tournament is that we get some continuity i.e. I would like to see the Sugita-Miura central midfield partnership carry on for at least two of these games but I fear that our leader will probably run true to form and experiment experiment experiment.

Unrelated.....hope wherever you are the Covid virus is not affecting you and yours too badly.

Sorry for the question, but what do you refer about too cynical? Only for curiosity.

Sorry for the missing international update this week: I am not sure if I can manage to catch up with it. Maybe I'll try while I wait for Japan-Spain to start.

Meanwhile, some sad news from NWSL: Seattle Reign FC (or what their name will be under OL's Aulas' tenure) just waved Rumi Utsugi.

By the way, I wonder if she's fully healthy right now.

The international update I was talking about:

    Aussie W-Legue:

    - On Sunday, Melbourne City-Brisbane Roar 3-1. It was the last match of the regular season, that City finished at 1st place with 34 points in 12 matchdays, 9 points ahead of second-placed Melbourne Victory (if you mind, 34 points in 12 matchdays mean that Melbounre City only lost 2 points: 11 wins and 1 draw! o_O). Next match for City will be the semifinal of play-offs vs Western Sydney Wanderers, that they's play on Sunday the 15th of March.
Yukari Kinga fully played this last match; you can see its highlights here: https://www.w-league.com.au/video/melbourne-city-v-brisbane-roar-highlights-westfield-w-league

Division 1 Feminine is in break for the Tournoi de France

    Frauen-Bundesliga:

    - since I am in a hurry, I won't cover 2nd Division. 1 FC Köln lost home by 1-4 to 1.FFC Frankfurt. Yuka Hirano just saw the match from the bench.

Serie A femminile in Italy is in break for Algarve Cup (but also because of the coronavirus emergency)

Liga Femenina (that will stop for SheBelieves Cup and will resume on 21th-22th of March):

    - Espanyol manage to stop Athletic Bilbao on a 0-0 draw! No trace of Ayaka Noguchi, though (both on the pitch and on the bench o_O).

    - Deportivo Abanca win by 3-4 an incredible match vs Tacón after being behind by 3-0 at 79'! At 82' our Maya Yamamoto scored the first goal of an impossible comeback that was finalized by goals at 83', 88' and 91'. Deportivo now at 4th place.

    - Sporting Huelva-Logrono 1-1. Huelva now at third-to-last place. No Yoko Tanako on the pitch nor on the bench.

Nice line-up: it's not the first time, if I remember well, that Takakura tries Endo as a Full-Back and, although I am not sure Jun has yet the proper defensive skills, it's an interesting move, since she can push a lot from the wing.

Is Ikejiri really played in the midfield, or is it some kind of 4-3-3 with Iwabuchi, Sugasawa and Ikejiri as FWs? :cautious:
