You don't? Seattle got more aggressive after going down and the fire did the same shit they always do and dropped back and defended like chickens with their heads cut off.
I know it wasn’t the result we were looking for but I was pleasantly surprised to find the game on the only TV in the bar I was hangin in today in Nederland, Colorado. Cheers from the mountains folks!!
Was watching it today on my phone between Breck and Frisco. Turns out going cross country skiing at just under ten thousand feet less than 24 hours after arriving from Chicago is a tiring experience. I knew Morris was going to terrorize Bronico today. Might be time to see if Navarro can play on the right.
Bornstein wasn't so great himself. Anyway, there were enough encouraging signs for a team at half strength at best. Bronico is helpless as a fullback, Herbers was pretty useless, but those aren't going to be major players for us. Pineda looked solid, Medran was better than I was expecting, and I thought Djordje was terrific. With what we have coming I think the middle of the park looks like it could be a strength. And we played with a clear identity and idea of what we wanted to do, and that will bode well.
I was curious about that. They attacked Bronico so much but I was watching Bornstein and worried he was a weak point as well. I just feel like they didn’t try to exploit him as much.
I was there last weekend and had our last day cancelled by weather (60 mph gusts/-30 wind chills). You must prep by drinking lots and lots of H2O. Have a humidifier going 24/7 in your abode and I highly recommend the cans of Boost O2. Today I had the game on my phone, but it was so warm, I had to hit the links, so barely watched except for Seattle's winner.
Excellent observations, mostly because I agree. I'm a little less positive on Djordje than most, but that's our central midfield you're lauding. We're adding two players that are slated to be better center mids than the three who started against Seattle. And when Sekulic becomes operational we add Bronico as depth at CM as well. For the first time in what seems forever central midfield will be a strength of this team. It will be a pleasure to see a Chicago Fire team boss the center of the park. As for the fullback situation help is coming, but even so depth is still short. Lots of us want a look at Navarro and this may be the end of the line for Bornstein, who doesn't seem to fit with the new culture under Heitz and Wicky. Then what?
Not at a tiny wook bar in a mountain town of about 1500 people. Or at least I didn’t expect to see it there. They’re more of a play recorded Dead shows on the tv type of place. That said I was clearly the only person watching.
Bet ya got some good snow yesterday and I hope you had fun. Love that area, it’s only about 2 hours from me. I’m about a half hour up the hill from Boulder. If I can make a suggestion, when you think you’ve drank enough water, drink more. Especially if you’re doing anything physical coming from sea level. Also if you like IPAs, Odell’s Mountain Standard is my jam. And yes we definitely need an upgrade at RB and Bornstein didn’t look great either...
Team got Bronico'd. To be fair, the guy isn't a fullback. Can't wait for Sekulic. Major upgrade. Thought we played pretty well, considering. Shame we didn't get a result. Medran was better than passable. Looking forward to a better squad.
When you've got Joevin Jones standing in a National Park's worth of open space, that should probably be where the ball goes, and it did.
Game was on before I asked at Dugans Pub in Little Rock, Arkansas. By the way, my informal poll of old logo versus new was split right down the middle with most 30 and unders preferring the new logo. Very surprising from complete neutrals, most of which had no idea what I was talking about.
Of the 60+ people in Seattle, TWO liked the new logo. And that’s not even “preferred”. Completely unscientific but pretty clear. Those that haven’t been involved and are marketed to with the off season flash campaign probably know no better and like what they see. The rest? Not so much.
More deep thoughts: - good debut from Pineda. he'll be in a perfect development situation, with Gimenez as his mentor - Collier blew almost a sure goal late. all he had to do was pass to either of our 2 guys closing. ugh! - I dog Mihailovic more than most, but he played well. ~65 minutes seems right. That chesting of the cross to Beric was textbook - A for effort: compete level was high - A for game plan: we took it to them, no bunkering - much more to be encouraged, than otherwise, about.
And the other 58 people in Seattle sniffed at the air and said the logo did not have enough "coffee notes" to it, that their logo is superior in all respects, and nobody else "understands." Of course, every one of them still had it tattooed on their calves...just to be "edgy."
Interesting that the under 30s liked it- the other day my wife, a PE teacher at a local public high school, said that almost all of her students that are soccer fans like the new logo more than the old one. I had to clarify the ‘more than the old one’ part because I wasn’t sure if that meant they just liked it objectively or only compared to the previous one- she said that she didn’t really ask, it’s just what she’s heard / overhead whenever they have a soccer unit. I honestly can’t see how anyone can look at the new logo and say ‘yeah, that’s good stuff right there’, but apparently such people exist ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My biggest complaints on the coaching side was that Bronico at RB was preferred over any alternative CB in order to allow Kappelhoff to move to RB and that Collier was the best available attacking sub. The team played well overall, but you can still see how shaky the back line can be. Hopefully, the reinforcements will make the team stronger. Was Herbers supposed to be an attacking midfielder? It looked almost like a 4-3-2-1 since Herbers was in line with Pineda and Medran most of the time and Beric was really isolated up top. I had a super low bar for this game and they exceeded expectations.
I guess we don't know yet whether Omsberg, Slonina, Gutjahr, or Navarro would have been a better option on the backline. Hopefully they are and the staff made the wrong call in this match. As far as complaining about Collier though, I don't think you can blame the coaching staff. He was the only attacking player available on the bench and the only healthy players we didn't dress were our 3rd and 4th string goalkeepers and an 18 year-old defender who we are trying to loan out (and didn't play at all in preseason). I'm not sure which attacking sub you would have liked to see instead?
