There has clearly been a decline in player quality in the Liga. I see it just by watching Porto. Very different to what we had 10-15 years ago. The most important question though is how do we fix it? I'd love to hear some realistic ideas.
Can’t be worse than what they are now would mean our young talent getting game time to grow. I’m old enough to remember when we had the rule in place and we did ok even Porto won European cup during that time
I agree with verde rubro. Even when I was in Madeira recently I saw so many talents. If Maritimo raised a team of Madeira players with a couple quality foreigners they would contend for the Primeira liga .
Yes Porto 10-15 years ago was amazing I watched them closely and modelled my coaching philosophy on many of those teams.
Times have changed and there's a lot money in "weaker" leagues. Seems like we can only compete if we let foreign billionaires take over our teams and league which I wouldn't want. Look at how much money Porto lost by just not making the CL. Very tough to compete next year and will only get worse. The scouting system is finished since every one is doing the same thing but with more money than us.
Before Porto won the UEFA CUP/CL, the Portuguese league was in the dumps, 12 or 15 in the rankings and we found a way to climb back up. Creative accounting and risky scouting worked out great. Now, it's time to reinvent the wheel again. Perhaps having a gung ho youth system and pumping out even more players? Who knows.
so Portuguese FA desperate for Famlicao to get into Europe so they award them this pen even VAR looks at this and still awards the pen but fvk you, Maritimo goes up the other end and gets the 3rd to knock the cvnts out of europe place
Why would the FPF want Famalicao in Europe ? I detest the toxic culture of Portuguese football where everything is a conspiracy. Mistakes Happen. Have any of you reffed a game? Well I have a few times. Believe me it’s a tough job. Even using VAR can pose challenges. If you’ve never reffed before, you have no right to criticize.
Pretty obvious why they'd want Famalicao to be in the Europa League. They're owned by a millionaire Israeli.
I haven't been paying too much attention as to why B. Silva is benched. Was there a fall out or is Pep just an idiot? I remember a few weeks ago Pep blamed himself for B. Silva's form but that sounded strange.
Bernardo could have been a WPOTY candidate else where having him in your squad makes you a contender in any tournament.
I was joking, but I really cannot come up with a possible reason as to how he can bench such a good player....so I chose that. He is screwing up city big time. Fernandinho was one of their best midfielders and he brings his Spanish boy Rodrigo in and moves Fernandinho to cb. Then he starts benching Sané who was one of their best players, and even proceeds to buy Mahrez who he then also goes on to bench. Also randomly gets rid of Kompany one of their biggest lockeroom leaders and a solid backup cb option Fraud of a coach who only has as many accolades as he does due to taking the most overpowered rich teams in every league he goes to. My prediction for his next destination: PSG
What a bum player Rashford is. Good luck to England’s cup hopes if they are relying on him and Sterling
