That tweet says that it's for medical assessment, unfortunately.

Could you hire someone who plays a decorator on TV for your next house. That last one was mortifying.

    A 1-4 loss to BMG. Now, they're 16th.

The club's plaing against Steffen 's former club

Still competitive at the bottom. They're 16th tied with 17th on 17 pts while 18th is on 16 pts.

The transfer window in England was closed 2-3 weeks ago. Of course it's to assess his injury.

The best place to assess if they should bring him back to play is BL1 games; not the Man City training ground

Kastenmeier is an up-and-coming German goalkeeper. So the same idea applies here as with Horvath/Mignolet: if the local guy is equivalent, he's preferred, because of the PR & added value.

he's getting lots of praise from the ex coach and current coach and management too.

This is his 1st pro season too, before this season he was career RL player. It's been said that he made mistakes in his 1st 2 games but has been faultless ever since.

"His teammates would have helped him, everyone had stood behind him. The same applies to Friedhelm Funkel. The ex-coach held on to the keeper despite the mistake in the Bremen game. The native of Regensburg is also number one for the current coach Uwe Rösler. This trust in the talented young player has paid off. Kastenmeier did not look good a week later when conceding the second goal at the 0-3 defeat in Leverkusen, but he has been faultless since then. Even better: He has become a secure backing and shows his strengths as a "goalkeeper libero" behind the defensive chain.

Kastenmeier, who likes to orientate himself on the game by Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, covered a total of six and a half kilometers in the game against Mönchengladbach in order to always be playable in front of his box. "If we have possession of the ball, then I'm the eleventh player on the field," says the youngster, who gave the indirect template for the interim 1-1 at a wide tee. It becomes clear that he is a complete keeper, who was a field player for a long time and only switched to goal at 15.

It means that he'll be returning as #2 to Kastemeier until July, which is how it should be. It doesn't mean much beyond July IMO. Steffen's had 17 BL 1 games to show his qualities to Citeh and other potential loan destinations. He'd certainly be better off showing his abilities until season's end, but not by that much. He's already been well-scouted.

Still no Steffen in the 18.

It's odd that he's being held out this long, unless he's going through like, a full muscular reset of his leg.

I wonder who's going to be the US #1 in March with him out. Maybe a renaissance for Horvath.

Yeah, this is starting to get worrisome. I googled around a bit and couldn't find any update other than the one from a couple weeks ago saying that City were doing their own medical evaluation. If it were something as "simple" as tendonitis, you'd think they'd just rest him a couple weeks, and he'd be good to go.

Obviously I'm not a professional athlete, but I run semi-seriously, and I had tendinitis that kept me from running for a while. Rest didn't really do shit - no matter how long I took off, my knee was throbbing within a run or two.

The issue was that my quad muscles weren't triggering simultaneously, which dragged my kneecap out of place while running, causing the inflammation. It took 3+ months of physical therapy (including getting electric impulses shot through my thigh, which was a weird sensation) and a ton of low-impact cardio and strength training before I was able to run (mostly) pain-free again. They basically had to re-map the way my quad muscle worked.

With how long Steffen has been out now, I have to wonder if he's dealing with something similar.

Thanks for the added insight. I’d also note that if you take that into account City are making a business decision. It’s better value for them to have him do that now. Steffens team looks like it’s going down. He’s shown enough to show he’s at least competent at the level. Let him get right and see if you can find a loan to buy deal next year in a better situation.

He’s a starting USMNT caliber player... he has to be out indefinitely.

FWIW, the Guardian reported the same Bravo-to-NYC rumours but minus the denials from New York. The interesting part of that short article for BS readers was that the article concluded with an out of the blue comment that City have been very "encouraged by reports of [Steffen's] progress" in Germany.

It's premature to say that they've decided to make a fully-fit Steffen their No. 2, but they're probably evaluating it as one of their options.

    Unlikely. They'll buy someone.

Being their no.2 ain't half-bad. Could be seeing 5-10 matches or more if Ederson is injured

This makes a lot of sense. Enough so that people were speculating about this earlier in the thread before there was any rumor.
