Also thought El Ghazi played well

De Vrij is only good in 3-5-2. in a normal 4 man back line he is vulnerable. I would like to see a Ake (left) and Virgil (right) combo if De Ligt loses his spot in NT.

Bergwijn did really well... Son is definitely the MotM, but Bergwijn was surely in the top 2 or 3 best player on the pitch. His movement was excellent, his speed was devastating. It helped that Villa played with 3 men in the back line, it opened up a lot space for him to operate. His decision making could have been better (I attributed to him being in a new system/teammates). For example, he had one breakthrough run that he took selfishly all the way to the end, whilst he should have passed. Overall, 2 excellent games in his 2 starts. Hope he keeps humming.

I wasn’t super impressed with El Ghazi tbh. Seemed a step or two off pace. Didn’t show much dribble penetration. He had one really good shot from distance that bounced off Lloris palm and face, I think that’s his most notable contribution. Disappeared rest of the game. I noticed that whoscored rated him the worst attacker among the three Villa forwards. I like the other winger (Grealish?) Played with a lot of urgency.

Rekik (remember him?) is totally stinking out the joint for Berlin these days.

And it looks like deLigt has permanently lost his starting job against Rugani/Demiral. He'll be loaned out in the summer

Sarri is a rubbish manager, just go over to the Juve forum here. They let Emre Can go to Dortmund and he's much better than any of the other MFs they retained. They never did anything during the off season to fix the MF and will likely not progress very far in the CL.

Okay, but what does that have to do with MdL?? He's had a number of chances to impress and he's failed so far

I don't think he has failed. I don't think Sarri favors him for some reason. Bonucci was suspended today and Chielini just came back from a long time out. I think de Ligt is much better than Rugani but maybe the thinking today was that Chielini could not go the full 90 and de Ligt would come on for him as he can play on the left side whereas Rugani cannot. Rugani gave up a silly penalty today.

I think Serie A might not be the right league for deLigt

Why not Ake and van dijk combo.

  10. Why Ake, who's not on top of the defenders list in the epl in stead of de Vrij, who made it into the Italian Serie A best eleven team for the season and by the soccer journalists in Italy is considered the best Serie A defender?

    vDijk/deVrij in central midfield.

Aké, or anyone else, should be on the bench IMO

You guys really think De Vrij will survive in epl. Look at what happened to wesley hoedt.

What Ake comes up against week in and week out is probably what de vrij comes up with ones in a blue moon in serie A. And plus de vrij plays in a 3 man back line at inter. His vulnerable in a normal 2 man CB. Vunerable in the sense that his flaws start to pop up.

De vrij and van dijk combo will become too static. He is not even up to the pace of van Dijk.

I can, however see them together in a 3 backline if koeman does change formation.

I find this whole discussion extremely boring and premature.

  14. You keep banging on that Ake drum for I donot remember how long. It's nothing but your personal preference for epl players. However try to convince us with facts that show Ake with Bournemouth is keeping those superior epl attackers at bay.
Simply facing them/being on the same pitch with them isnot enough. Show us with numbers that tell us Ake has an impact on the numbers of goals conceded. De Vrij is hailed in the country that has cherished defending. I can't recall any paper in the UK that is in awe about Ake, which tells me he's nothing special, just a run of the mill also defender in the epl.
    Just to show the difference

  15. Dunno why there are posts specifically on defenders in this thread ment to be a catch all random news thread. Specific talks about players in certain positions have dedicated threads to prevent clutter of all positions talks so one has to wade through alot of non relevant posts to find info back.
So please restrict posting in here to generic news and specific position talks and players discussions for those positions to the dedicated threads. Now we have to flip to threads to get a total picture.
    @Orange14
Request to move at least the defenders postings to the Watchlist defenders thread. If not too much asked the same for the other positions.
    Please:)

I'll see what I can do. It's not as easy as you think as I have to identify the specific URL of the destination thread. Too tired and disappointed by Ajax to do anything today.

  17. ;)I feel your pain. Patience is a virtue I have (as a Feyenoord fan a must have asset) :p So when you're ready for it it's the right time.
Anyway I hope the posters heed my "request" to post in the right threads:devilish:

    1. There is no stats break down for Ake or any other defender for that matter in epl to track their individual performance per game as what you claim or are interested to know.. the individual ratings as per some web sites like whoscored.com is probably what is avaliable but again it doesn't give the true picture on a game basis as it comes down to overall performance of the whole team and players that are around you. de vrij will always have a higher rating because of the players quality around him compared to ake and bournemouth. plus you look at de vrij under spalletti the season before conte took over . he was on and off.

2.that elite level tag in serie A could well be the same as valuable level tag in epl. I cant think of any CBS but 99% cross over of serie A players to epl has been tragic.this stat I can confirm. maybe if de vrij crosses over to epl then it could settle the dust.

I am locking this thread as we have four threads to discuss position players for the Dutch NT. I will try to move posts on this thread to the appropriate categories but that will take a while. If you have comments on various players please post to one of the mentioned categories; for example Nathan Ake will be discussed under the Defender Watch List.

    Thank you.
