Still in third place, though barely. A bad (home) loss is painful, but seems overdue - Fulham had not lost a league game since January 1 - and the fact that the 4th and 5th place teams drew their matches, and the 6th and 7th place teams lost theirs, takes some of the sting out of it.

Next up: At Derby County (13th) on Friday.

As noted, Fulham and Ream are the headliners today, away to mid-table Derby County (13th).

33 games played, 13 to go, plus potential promotion playoff games - still with a very crowded table.

Fulham just tied the score, now 1-1 at 75', Mitrovic canceling out an earlier PK goal from ... Wayne Rooney!

1-1 Final score - a useful point (we hope).

And the penalty which Rooney scored was the result of a handball in the box on Tim Ream

Feels like it's time to set the table for the final push. Fulham are 3rd, by a point, with 12 games left, six at home, six away, 8 games against fellow top-10 teams. Starting tomorrow:

    v Swansea City (9)
    v Preston (6)
    @ Bristol City (7)
    v Brentford (4)
    @ Leeds (2)
    @ QPR (15)
    v Birmingham (14)
    @ Notts Forest (5)
    v Cardiff City (10)
    @ West Brom (1)
    v Sheffield Wed. (12)
    @ Wigan (22)

As evidence of how competitive the league is, top-to-bottom, only two of the 24 teams have won their last two games: Leeds (2) who had been struggling, and Barnsley (23). There were 8 wins in the last round of games: 4 by teams in the top 17, and 4 by teams in the bottom 7. Makes things hard to predict.

In what must have been an exciting finish, Mitrovic scored at 90+4' and Fulham wins 1-0!

Fulham retakes 3rd place from Notts Forest, who won yesterday. Leeds also won today, to maintain a 5-point lead over Fulham for 2nd place.

Another important win, Fullham 2-0 Preston NE. Ream played the full 90'+, of course.

Now a full week of rest, with a game @ Bristol City next Saturday.

Another plus for Ream. He plays a lot of games, doesn’t seem to be injury prone.

He getting out of a short February funk. Otherwise, this season, he's been one of our most consistent players in Europe (Cameron deserves a mention too, and Lichaj, until the injury).

Finished 1-1, a useful point, first lost then taken back. I was nervous seeing that Ream had been subbed out, but then read:

"Ream was subbed for Anthony Knockaert in an attacking switch with an almost instant effect."

It's nice to see a switch like this work, it's an idea that should probably be tried more often.

Ream has to hope they finish the season (as it seems the English clubs want to do). He’ll be 33 in October and surely promotion this season is his last shot at the Premier League. With one year left on his deal, I think he stays if they’re promoted. Otherwise, I’d think Fulham looks to reload. Perhaps a loan to another championship club.

To be honest with you I felt like the only way Ream stayed with Fulham was if they didn't get promoted. Can he still hack it in the Championship? Absolutely, there's a larger margin for error on his 1-2 mental gaffe's a game/declining physical ability. But I would bet any money he never plays another Premier League game again.

I agree that the odds are his days in the Premier League are over. But pretty much the only way that’s not the case is Fulham going up and him sticking around with them.

I'm a Fulham fan and I think it's pretty obvious that he can hack it in the Championship, but not the Premier League. I doubt that they would make the same mistake and count on Ream, even as a bench player like they did last year.

It's time for a thread revival:

    https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/spor...onship-promotion-verdict-experts-say-18441398

"What’s the level of optimism at the club that promotion can be achieved and is it warranted?

High, because Fulham are in a very strong position.

As things stand, they are nine points above seventh-placed Bristol City, ...

Which player – or players – will be key?

Mitrovic’s goals will obviously be crucial, but the experience and leadership of Cairney will be vitally important, too.

..., centre-back Tim Ream’s measured passing (the United States international has completed 89.5 percent of his passes this season) will be an important factor when Fulham try to maintain control during the remaining games.
