I agree with the proposed tweak to the Champions League. Absolutely bonkers that a team like Ajax could advance to the CL semis while winning the Dutch league, and still have to go through like 11 rounds of qualifying to reach this season's CL group-stage.

    Wow, exaggerate much...

They had to do TWO rounds this year and that was only due to them and other Dutch teams having been really poor for a few years in CL/EL. Next year the Dutch champion could possibly need to do one round (but likely they will go directly into the GC). And the year after they look likely to qualify directly.

Well, yes, I know the reason why some teams have to go through anywhere between 1 and 4 qualifying rounds. I'm just saying I agree with the idea to make an exception for those times when you have a really special and proven team that is from outside one of the top leagues.

There's a year of lag time from when the UEFA spots are determined. The 2019-2020 CL and EL changes to the country coefficients determine the access list for the 2021-2022 competitions. The 2019-2020 CL and EL don't affect the access to the 2020-2021 competitions so clubs know at the start of 2019-2020 how many CL and EL spots their country has. By "access" I mean how many spots the countries have, not clubs getting access by where they finish. If you wanted to guarantee the Semifinalists a spot in the next Group Stage, you would need to have spots that could be in the Group Stage or Playoff Round, Playoff Round or Qualifying Round 3, etc. depending on if the Semifinals qualified through their league. They already have spots like that, and they would need to increase. It's extremely unlikely that a CL winner won't qualify for the next CL Group Stage through their league, while the EL winner is more questionable. Rather than the champions who have to qualify having their starting round determined by their country coefficient, they could be ranked by club coefficient so the best champions would start last. Ajax had the highest coefficient of a champion who had to qualify, so that change would have let them start one round later in the Playoff Round. The problem is that a club could clinch its league with games to spare but have to wait for the other champions to be determined in order to know what round they will start in. Standings couldn't say that the champion goes to CL Qualifying Round 2 (or any number) if that was determined later.

Not sure what's so special about them tbh. The last time they played a CL knock-out round was back in 2006 and they're in the EL this year, last year was an anomaly if anything.

CL qualifying is based on what you did the season before.

Am not trying to claim they are the team of the decade or something like that, so don't get your randomish response.

It was you that called them special and wanted them to get preferential treatment, I'm just not sure what merits that.
