I don't really get your point. Isn't it true that no matter when you first call him up, he won't know anybody and nobody will speak French on the team? (Tim Weah is the only other US player in Ligue 1, but don't know if he speaks French though. Maybe Altidore speaks some French too, based on his heritage?) Edit: Ebobisse and Romain Gall may speak French as well, as both were born in Paris.

Theoson is a professional, and the sooner we call him in, the sooner he can start making friends and getting integrated with the team.

His confidence may be down, but I see a national team call-up as being more of a confidence boost than a negative.

I'm not saying play him at all during his first call-up, but give him the chance to practice with the squad and start making connections.

I don't know why his performance got derailed. The kid is big at 6'3, fast as winger. He has a great engine like Bradly. Excellent aerial game. I'm trying to figure what went wrong. Is he a head-case ala Shawn Parker? I have no idea.

He should do. The lad's been in France since he was 13-14 and while French isn't exactly easy, it's not that hard either.

Oh there are interviews of him speaking French. No idea how good it is, but he can speak it.

The only thing I would say in his defense is that his playing time is sporadic, and it's difficult for a striker to do well in that situation. Like, he had 9 minutes in their last 9 league games combined.

That said, he's up to 658 minutes this season now, and his only goal is against a fourth-division team. It's kind of crazy that he's gotten that many minutes and done so little, but the team is still on pace to qualify for Europe.

Seems like He’s not a Ligue 1 level player. Name search him on twitter. Their fans aren’t fond of him.

I don’t know if you call him up. Maybe for March, since the U-23s will drain a lot of players in the mix and the forward pool is thin. But, expectations aren’t great. He’s still probably better than he’s showing

but Sargent, Soto, Novakovich, Gioacchini, Siebatcheu.. no one on the younger side in Europe is scoring

I mean CFs is the position other than GK,the only outfield player that takes the most time to really breakthrough for realz. Vast majority of CFs don't really start to click until like 23-onwards.

from that, Nova and Siebatcheu are the ones in that range already. Wright is getting closer and closer to that.

Siebatcheu seems like the type that either isn't good enough for Ligue 1 and might never be or that might need more time in Ligue 2 or something. He's not the 1st nor last player who early attempts at 1st division don't amount to much.

One should always be wary of any player having 1 good season in lower level, doesn't mean it would translate well to higher level. One season isn't consistency. Siebatcheu had 1 good season in Ligue 2 and that's it. Wood also had 1 good 2BL season but never clicked in 1BL.

at this point, one would have to question whether he gets dumped this Summer by Rennes?

Definitely not. They dropped €9 million to sign him, and they would get a third, maybe half of that if they tried to move him this summer. They aren't going to take that kind of loss on a player if they can avoid it. He has 3 seasons left on his contract; he'll get chances.

Not sure why people aren't clicking with the fact that they're having their best season in ages with him on the bench. He didn't make it as a full time starter over other guys. In the past few years they've been 10th, 5th, 9th, 8th, 9th, 11th, 13th, 6th and 6th going back across the past decade, now they're 3rd, and have been sitting at the top of the table since I started paying attention anyway. Why would he break through? Why on earth would they mess w/something which is producing their best season this past decade (and in memory for me)?

This doesn't mean he isn't any good, or that he is good, I just look at this, and view it as self-explanatory. He didn't break through after transferring, not a good thing, and then the team suddenly started playing they best they have since I started paying any attention to Ligue 1, and at that point, why are they suddenly going to give him a ton of minutes when they're trying to win a Champions League spot?!?! Why? Go w/what got them here, barring injury. Seems pretty simple. As for calling him in, I would. I don't view this as an indictment, it's more like the reverse of Wood's career. You could be trapped on a team that's so god awful that your minutes aren't helpful because your team doesn't have the talent in place to help you showcase your own, but in this case, it's a team that's doing so well, there's literally zero reason to give you any minutes in the first place barring injury. It sucks, but right now, it's not surprising, and I don't view it as something that's potential defining for him, it's a "situation" and he hasn't forced his way in, and that's the only way a guy in his position would likely get minutes barring injury. Bummer that he hasn't been able to, but I still view him as a good prospect, and considering we have zilch at Forward, I have no problem calling him in, and seeing how he plays. I have a hard time, a real hard time, believing he's worse than what we've been starting at forward the past half-decade. I don't think many of those guys could make Rennes bench in a million years (this season), let alone see minutes here or there from time to time.

Didn't he play with Reims in League 1 when he first got promoted and did so well that he signed a contract? His demise is getting his team demoted and then sold.

Reims sold him right after getting promoted. Since he'd contributed 17 Ligue 2 goals and 7 assists in their promotion season, he was a hot property and they cashed in.

Whole lot of yelling at a wall here.

Siebatcheu will get chances because he has three years left on his contract. A club the size of Rennes, even if they fluke their way into the Champions League occasionally, can't afford an 8-figure loss on a transfer plus five years of salary. So, even if Siebatcheu isn't a big part of their plans, he'll get chances to play so that his transfer value doesn't completely crater.

There's no judgment about his ability or anything in it.

Theoson hasn't played in a few weeks, but he's facing tough competition. Rennes in third place in Ligue 1, in line for Champions League next year. Not bad. Cap him now!

Well, he last played on Feb. 16th. The last 3 league matches and one cup match he didn't play and was not in the 18 for 3 of the 4 matches. He needs to at least get some game time.

After the French government announced that no sporting events would be permitted before September, the French Ligue de Professional Football made the decision to end the Ligue 1 season using the standings at the time of abandonment to determine the 2020/2021 European places. Thus Stade Rennais finish in third in Ligue 1 and qualify for the 2020/2021 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round. However, some clubs are talking about reserving the right to appeal the decision.

Siebatcheu final stat line will be 1 assist and 3 yellow cards in 434 minutes of Ligue 1 play (14 games, 4 starts). He picked up 2 yellow cards in 196 minutes of Europa League play (5 games, 2 starts). Rennes finished bottom of their group. Siebatcheu also scored a goal in 29 minutes of game time in the Coupe de France (2 substitute appearances) while also converting a penalty during a shoot-out in the Round of 64. Rennes were eliminated in the semifinals of the tournament. Finally, he made a 61 minute start with Stade Rennais II in the fifth tier Championnat National 3 Group K: Brittany.
