Good luck to Leonard. We'll see how he adjusts from the Israeli league to MLS. Looks like he has a physical presence which is certainly needed in Caps midfield.
on second thought- re: leonard owusu coming from the Israel league doesn't bode well that he can be an upgrade to our MF-- MLS has to be a better quality league count me slow to be impressed on this signing the other possible new player/loanee- Santiago Cáseres: struggling with injuries both new players don't bring me a lot of hope for the MF which- AGAIN- will be the make or break of the Caps for 2020
Another Gersh? Maybe better? We'll see. One thing you do know for sure is if he's from the Black Stars stomping grounds he's going to be one tough SOB with a work rate to die for.
on paper- especially with cavallini, a full season of adnan, a signed godoy and dajome- the Caps are a better team but we can assume that other MLS clubs are upgrading also-- right now, the Caps will struggle- Owusu has to be a BIG question mark as an upgrade (playing in Israel doesn't give me hope) and if they do land Santiago Cáseres, even a bigger doubt (he is injury prone and will have to adapt to the burdens of travel and different playing surfaces) this team as of January 22 is NOT a playoff team - weakest MF in MLS IMO and as we all know, MF is the key ingredient for a team according to GC's table (With Dájome, Owusu, and Godoy all confirmed, here’s the updated depth chart, salary budget estimate, and roster composition tables. *based upon MDS’ comments the other day about the spots available on the Supplemental Roster, I moved Ricketts to the Senior Roster. #VWFC pic.twitter.com/Ca9isLNOix— 𝕲𝖑𝖆𝖘𝖘𝕮𝖎𝖙𝖞 (@GlassCityFC) January 22, 2020 ) , the Caps have used almost all of the $13 mill from the davies transfer $$$ - and using allocation money, the salary for their most expensive player- cavallini- is covered by MLS counting TAM money, the entire 2020 salary is still covered by MLS (last year it was $8.2 mill) with about $2.5 mill still available - we can expect 2-3 more players signed, but nothing earth-shattering in a significant MF (known salaries- 15 players- is $8 093 995; unknown salaries of 7 other signed players will be about $1 mill--- just over $9 000 0002 minus the TAM money of $3 353 791-- total = $5 800 000) are the owners spending more $$$$ than 2019?? I don't see it!! its smoke and mirrors again- we can only hope that the new players are significant upgrades to the 2019 departed players https://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/so...ow-much-are-us-soccer-players-paid/ar-BBXOUkk PS if I am wrong with my math, then set me straight -- its quite confusing, but HEY this is MLS
I didn't think they had enough to buy down Cavellini and he would be actually coming from Kerfoot's wallet. Based on the lay of the land, they are still looking to work withing MLS monies and Davies transfer funds as much as possible. So , it does seem like a bit of smoke and mirror to make us think they are opening their own personal wallets. If this is another season where they didn't spend more than a small amount of their own funds, all the while collecting more expansion money, then that reverses my thought that maybe they have changed the core of Kerfoots way of doing things. Ultimately, the fans vote with their wallets. Last year enough people stopped showing up (even when they already paid for their tickets),. and enough people sacked their renewal, that they were rattled enough to reshape the front office and bring in a higher priced player. If they are out of the playoff mix by summer, MDS will certainly be sacked, and the fans will stop showing up again. These guys do the bare minimum to keep the fans on board, its fascinating to see. And wow, are they getting another nice chunk of expansion money coming in. whoo hoo. With the Davies money almost used up, club history would tell us that they will be looking for much more in the way of free transfer and loans and buying players may go back to like the pre-davies days. Always be skeptical with this group. Try to see what is smoke and mirror and what is authentic. THe next 2 years will make or break this club in Vancouver. If they turn off the taps on transfer fees and continue to not want to pay for better players, and they don't get results; BC Place will get pretty empty.
under GC's document, it looks like dajome, reyna, Montero, godoy, Owusu are all being bought down by TAM money so the 3 DPs- cavallini's, in boem's and adnan- are not being bought down and the owners are picking up the extra salary- $3-4 mill- beyond the MLS cap of $556 000 -- hard to believe ! is it possible or am I getting GC's salary chart wrong??
MDS seemingly bigged up Montero at the presser yesterday, denying that he was on the way out, etc., but I take that with a grain of salt. Too high priced a guy (regardless from whatever acronym funding pot the money comes) to have as a back up centre forward and he was overrated as a starter on the left side of the Christmas tree formation that MDS used in the second half of the season. I don't see him as an CAM, either. To me, keeping him around eats into Bair's development. Time to move on, in some way or another.
GC is guessing that the next player to be signed will be matias rojas (from Paraguay playing in argentina tier 1)and is listed as a striker and/or AMF- neither seems to apply if you check his stats- 1G, 1A in 15 games- but transfermarkt have him at over $7 mill transfer fee- HUH!!! seems like a gross inflation and a foolish spending of $$$- will MDS and the Club go down this path- hard to imagine !!
GC floats a lot of things to keep his twitter feed busy. Tons of players that will never, ever come here. So take it all with a grain of salt until there is something published by someone to verify.
reading from the latest GC salary chart, it would appear that the Caps have about $672 000 left of available MLS cap money, over $771 000 in TAM and $2 445 000 in GAM TAM and GAM explained: https://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/tor...ed-allocation-money-general-allocation-money/ so it would appear that the Caps still have available money of over $3 mill from MLS pots without dipping into the owners' wallets … which goes to prove Old Fan is right that the owners will NOT open their collective wallets for 2020- with MDS stating that another 2-3 players will still be added, then we can expect that their salaries will add up to no more that the allotted MLS pots of $3.1 mill (a RB, a DMF and an AMF/striker) if I am wrong because of all the confusing MLS salary rules, then illuminate me
and with most of the davies transfer money spent, the 3 new players will probably come from trades-loans, or a small transfer fee
David Milinkovic- GC report-- if this is a potential new signing, then we are repeating the recruiting mistakes of 2019- been on 12 clubs in 11 years, lots of loans and has rarely played in meaningful games in 2 years he would be a free transfer which should tell us lots- this cant be true !?? I just don't see this happening unless we have 2 major upgrades in MF, we are out of being a playoff contender and MDS will be canned by summer
^ Milinkovic is in on a loan deal: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020...s-sign-hull-city-winger-david-milinkovic-loan
David Milinkovic -- yup-- its happened- a Whitecap owners' special-- no transfer fee disappointed and surprised-- haven't we had enough of these type of players who come in hoping to resurrect their careers? wasn't ardaiz and bangoura enough ?? this is not an upgrade to the team that is sorely needed- he has been traded/loaned/reversed loan to 11 clubs since 2013- no starts- not even in the squad for all of this season with Hull City's regular season and has played a whopping 63 mins for the entire campaign https://www.transfermarkt.com/david-milinkovic/leistungsdaten/spieler/354725 paint me SKEPTICAL about how this will turn out- GOOD GRIEF!!! just when I had some hope that the Club was more ambitious and mature
and now with the STH renewal deadline coming up- January 31- they sign a player with this pedigree- how does this convince supporters to believe that the owners have learned some lessons on what NOT TO DO ?? aint getting my money - and we still have the poorest MF in MLS - this signing reminds me how I felt at the 2019 season final months- betrayed, lied to and not valued
Re: David Milinkovic-- went to the hull city fc website and read the comments from the supporters- over 85% were happy to see him go out on loan not playing regular meaningful games for the past 18 months, the long traveling and the different playing surfaces don't bode well for him-- remember Jordan mutch- almost the same set of circumstances and continuously injured can a loan player be sent packing if he doesn't work out ?
proving what Old Fan has been saying-- the owners are sticking to their game plan- make every attempt to pay the players salaries from the MLS pots, use the davies transfer $$$ for new players, get a cheap loan player- the only piece missing is a trade to try and fill in the massive chasm in talent in the MF @GlassCityFC Based upon my estimates, the most I could make work for the remaining budget space the Caps have left is 2 players that cost no more than $2.5m in fees & on wages of no more than $300-400k per season. So you can see why they might want to wait until the new CBA comes out. #VWFC and Sporting director, Axel Schuster, has set a low bar for this season- just show improvement-- and the supporters will be content or should be content with this plan at this stage of 2020- and 5 weeks to the first regular season game- the owners and the FO are spinning the same SHITE AINT HAPPY, AINT RENEWING
One of the reporters over at eightysixforever.com did a write up on Milinkovic. 25 (still young), needs to prove himself (and his detractors wrong) could work either way. He may be desperate and give it all trying to revive his career or he could just carry on with his "attitude" and other problems. Another reclamation project leaves me rather "meh" but we'll see. Won't cost much and will provide cover and challenges for the starters is my take.
I suspect he will show ability. Does he have the temperament to put up with turf, crazy travel, summer matches in Houston and all of the other “unique” factors you see in MLS? We’ll see!
NEW MLS- PLAYERS CBA AGREEMENT: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020...r-compensation-will-grow-through-2024-new-cba the new package means the Caps have an additional $750 000 of MLS spending money available- added to their available $2.5 mill left, it comes to $3.25 mill to add players (I am guessing my figures are right) I expect the money to be spent by the summer to enhance the squad--- but nothing earth-shattering to raise the Club to a playoff contender the owners will continue to screw us supporters with hollow promises, but will NOT take money from THEIR large wallets to make a more competitive team, especially in MF-- expect 3 mediocre signings (trades, loans, players wanting to recapture their careers, etc)… but no game changers the 1 game changer is that the Caps must have at least 8 charter flights for away games - I would have thought that MLS would recognize that some teams- especially the Caps- have a lot more travel and should have added more charters for vancouver 3 weeks to the opening game and we are a team that will be at the bottom or near the bottom for 2020 by august, maybe even as early as May
