Two career German Bundesliga appearances, totaling nine minutes, the last two seasons ago, and 7 Austrian Bundesliga appearances last season. That's the extent of his first-team experience.

Granted, that's more than Josh Sargent and Tim Weah, but they are 18. Shawn Parker is four years older.

looks like he injured himself on Oct 28 during a game and was subbed out in the 17th minute.

in other non shocking news his bro, Shawn is also injured.
    and both have unknown return.

brothers who are very injury prone.

Mainz posted their In and Outs for II for next season, looks like Devante is staying put next season.

he really needs to play next season, do well and stay injury free. Turns 24 next season and has done nothing as a pro so far but be injured all the time.

last official update from Mainz, he's still injured.
    18/19 Cruciate Ligament Rupture Oct 28, 2018 - 351 days
    17/18 Cruciate Ligament Rupture Sep 15, 2017 Jun 30, 2018 288 days -

that injury list is so depressing, he's been lucky if he's fit for a few months before injured again. And he's getting close to a full year out from injury and already 2 years since his 2 major injuries.

turns 24 next month, he's a 96 after all. Not sure anyone would be interested in an injury prone player who has barely played in 2 seasons.

    MLS? More like USL.

Doubt MLS would be an option at this point if he can't stay healthy. Best option might be USL Championship a la Kiesewetter @ El Paso who did well and earned himself a move to MLS with Inter Miami.

Sad but was coming 24 year old Devante Parker has retired.

PARKER: "... BECAUSE THE FEELING WAS UNIQUE"
For Devante Parker, the dream of a Bundesliga career ended at the age of 24, and the 05ER's own growth has been officially invalid since this summer: But future plans are in full swing and could lead him back to the breaking path

The moment when his dream came true: Parker made his Bundesliga debut in the OPEL ARENA almost six years ago. (© Sascha Kopp)
August 2014: In the 82nd minute, 05 coach Kasper Hjulmand made a final substitution at 0-0 against Hannover 96 and wanted to give the FSV Devante Parker his own 18-year-old growth again. After the final whistle, a side note given the goalless draw, but a dream had just come true for the young talent. The memory of the minutes on the lawn of the OPEL ARENA continues to give goose bumps to the now 24-year-old ex-professional today, six years later, and shortly after the far too early end of his career.

Parker is tidy and reflected when we reach him while driving from Stuttgart to Mainz. In Swabia, he is currently completing an internship at Alpha Sports, a company that is committed to fighting for the right of professional athletes to fight for injuries sustained or to claim pension benefits. A very topical issue for the ex-professional who was trained in the junior performance center on Bruchweg from 2006, he has also matured in the past few months that after two cruciate ligament tears and a total of four operations on the right knee, it is no longer possible at the highest level.

I didn't want to leave anything unturned
"I tried everything in rehab until March of this year. Nevertheless, I noticed that I was not making any progress. The knee was ok, it felt good, but 100 percent competitive sports was out of the question. In the end, however, the knowledge was that The result of a long process, you don't decide overnight. I didn't want to leave anything unturned. It was a difficult time that shaped me a lot. And of course there were moments when you cried a tear ", says Parker, who has learned to accept his fate.

Farewell to professional sports and the "heart club"
It is still difficult, however, to say goodbye to professional sports, at least to have to turn your back on "heart club" as a player: "It is of course hard to accept that. I am in contact with a lot of people on Bruchweg and I definitely still feel part of it of that, it will stay that way for a while. " On the one hand it was difficult and sad, on the other hand "I now have the opportunity to completely reorient. The time has already been given to me in Mainz 05 in the past few months. It was clearly signaled that the doors were kept open for me become." He is grateful to the club for the opportunities that have been opened up to him. In addition to video analysis in the licensed player area, Parker was able to gain experience in training in the youth area to get a feel for which new way could be the right one for him. "No matter which office I came to in the past few months, I always had the feeling of being welcome," said Shawn Parker's younger brother, who once scored four goals for the 05ER in 27 Bundesliga games.

It is simply important to me from the bottom of my heart to thank everyone
In addition to the employees around Bruchweg, it is also of particular concern to him to emphasize the work of the medical department and the commitment of the rehab trainers. "As strange as it may sound, in retrospect even this time was fun. New hopeful approaches to stabilize the knee were tested again and again. They were always there for me. It is simply important to me to take heart from everyone Thank you for accompanying me on my way from day one at Mainz 05. I always felt comfortable in the club, learned a lot of great things, the same goes for my friends and family or my advisor who is still there for me and does a great job even though I can’t play anymore. It wasn’t natural to be caught that way. "

Despite the ongoing efforts and support, it should no longer be enough for the desired comeback. And so there are many valuable memories, especially those of these first two Bundesliga appearances in the shirt of his 05ER at the beginning of the 2014/15 season.

When asked about this, Parker is still enthusiastic about it: "You are working towards this experience. Everyone dreams of playing a game for their home club and becoming a professional. When I talk about it and think back now, I still get goose bumps. I am still a bit lacking in words today because the feeling was unique. I am grateful to the club for having been given this opportunity. There were other good players at the time who may never have had the opportunity, even if it was ultimately I was proud to have seen it two times. I will tell my children about it someday and I can only recommend everyone to fight for their dream. " One should not be afraid of setbacks.

In summer 2020, Parker will be more aware than ever that the time on Bruchweg not only created the conditions to live his dream of professional football, but also to be prepared for life outside of sport. He was not always aware of this. After all, there was a time when he had "little desire" for school:

Education is cool and the club attaches great importance to it

This results in rather uncomfortable conversations, Parker recalls: "But at that time I got myself back up and did my high school diploma, which was also a requirement of the club to be able to continue playing. In retrospect, it was the best thing that could have happened to me If you look at how many talents do not make it to the Bundesliga, everyone should be aware that school is a part of it. Education is cool and the club places a lot of value on the players not letting them go. "

The fact that there is more than football means that the 24-year-old (25 appearances for the DFB U-national team), who can look back on 84 Bundesliga appearances and ten regional league appearances for the 05ER, must inevitably look back deal with. A challenge that he accepted: "Even if the sport always came first for me. There are many cool things to discover, I exchange ideas with people from different areas who have experienced completely different things in their lives than me. I can and would like to take the time now. " Where he is going to go will be decided in the coming months. A further training measure offered by the professional association for professional soccer players after the end of his career is also currently being planned. After all, the future path should be carefully considered, and time should now be used to mature as a personality.

Impressions from a career that is far too short
    Return not excluded

"If I take on responsibility in the coaching area at some point - that's what I'm aiming for in the long run - then it shouldn't just be about the football aspect. I think my personal development is also a decisive factor. I'm still young myself. I want to do that do not rush and do something out of absolute conviction when I feel ready. I have to be sure to be able to help the players on the way that I walked. I loved football and I want to convey it to others. "

Just as he was once allowed to experience at the club, which he will continue to support regularly in the stadium in the future. In any case, the 05ER has been able to collect plenty of arguments for a possible, promised return of its own in the future over the years: "I believe that Mainz 05 is still very familiar to this day. The players get time and can get used to the highest level Develop calm, athletic, but also human. There is support for private problems. Although I have not seen any other youth performance centers, I know from other players that the NLZ on Bruchweg is located high up in Germany. There are clear rules that go with it If you follow them, nothing will stand in your way. " Parker knows what he's talking about.
