If we loan Keita out to a USL side that will be disappointing. He proved to me he is ready to play at this level. We will see how preseason shakes out but I would like to see him with the first team.

With that said, Porters history pre-Crew would suggest he won’t get a lot of playing time.

Oh, I agree, but he HAS BEEN in the recent past and that counts for something I think.

Plus, with Michael Bradley out for a while getting surgerized, it wouldn't be a shock to see him get called in again. I think it happened too late for this camp.

But as the Kraut fan said a couple posts ago, none of that is relevant vis a vis Artur.

Oh I totally agree, just making a prediction based on CB usage and the current roster. Making the reserve roster every few games won't do Keita any good. While that would keep him around to give him the Open Cup/Rotation minutes, I think the minutes at USL level is a better use of him for at least this season.

Keita is the future. The present is pretty congested and appears to be that way for at least a couple seasons. Bez is going to have to be creative to transition the present into the future, whenever that may be.

Well, I'd note there gave been some shorter seasons (32 at the start, 26 in 2001, 28 in 2002, 30 in '03-'04, back to 32, back to 30 in '07-'10, and finally 34 in 2011). And we have come close-ish. Closest in 2017 (Pipa had 9 as 3rd option) or 2001 (4 guys with 7+ in 26 games).

    1998 (32 games): John 26, McBride 10, Cunningham 8 (as mostly a sub),

    2001: 26 games: Cinningham 10, Pelusa 8, Mais 8, Dante 7.

    2002: 28 games: Cunningham 16, Buddle 9, Dante 6, McBride 5 (in 14 games).

    2004: 30 games: Cunningham 11, Buddle 9, Paule 7 (PK taker).

    2012: 34 games: Arrieta 9, Gaven 9, Higuain 5 (13 games, 11 starts).

    2014: 34 games: Finlay 11, Pipa 11, Meram 8.

    2015: 34 games: Kei 22, Finlay 12, Pipa 8.

    2017: 34 games: Ola 18, Meram 13, Pipa 9.

We want to Win games this year. That requires quality players at each position. Jimenez, Williams, and Keita on the field is a sign that we have injury issues and aren’t going to win much.
GC96 said the FO felt like we had too many USL level players last year. I’m Ok with veteran leadership from Williams and Jimenez but I don’t care to see them play. Also, keep Trapp, make a rotation and have fresh players for each game. Not just every other one.

Yeah, I did that same research in 2015 and 2017 hoping that we'd get 3 guys to 10+.

I'm hopeful that we have the offsensive firepower this year to have both a 20 goal scorer, or really close to it, and 2 other guys chipping in 10, that would bode really well for our results.

I also understand if the offensive side of things takes a while to come together. Building towards a championship level team is what I expect this year. Anything more than that is a bonus.

After watching Wormgoor's highlights, we will need cover on the back line because I am betting he has quite a few games he isn't available due to suspension.

The camp was suppose to be in Qatar. Trapp and his wife just had a kid so he turned down the call-up because he didn’t want to be so far away from them.

I would say a lot. I think they fancy it as a gamble worth trying because this is an area where Porter has succeeded where others failed.

Agreed. A percentage? I don't know... 75%? I mean, I assume there's be close to a 0% chance the club would have made an offer on him if Porter wasn't the coach here. Regardless, it only makes any sense if, as the gamble is concerned, this is the equivalent of playing the nickel slot machine. There's reason to believe that Porter can get something - potentially, quite a bit - out of this player. But there's no reason to bet much on that possible outcome.

He has 40 yellows and 4 reds over the course of his senior career.. That's a yellow every 7 or so games and a red every 70 or so games.. Not exactly worrisome

We have been discussing this topic a bit in a group text (not to be confused with the one hang has mentioned twenty or so times).

Much of the commentary in the small scope of press has been decent to mildly-positive. I am not sure how many other teams wanted Adi, but I do not think the commentary would be anywhere near as positive (with the background of everything that has been described by Kyle, et. al.). With my thoughts on Caleb, I would wager his bet/connection is going to want to get something “bigger” than what could be done at another team. He must have some skin in the game. His reclamation project has begun.

Hopefully it looks nothing like Guzman. Heaven help us, nothing ever like Guzman be associated with our glorious team again.

Dispatch reporting the Athletic is reporting that Adi is costing $205k. I don't have an Athletic sub so I don't know what else is said there.

I set my line at $500k and this comes in lower so I'm officially changing my opinion from meh to ok.

$205K is even lower than I assumed it would be. What a steal. About the same as Jimenez makes.

If $205K is the number, then I am thrilled. Not cuz I think that is what Adi is worth, but because FCKy is paying $1.8M for a player not on their team! How sweet that is!

I said on another platform that my level was $250k, I'm pleasantly surprised. If he's not a locker room problem, then that's decent business. Maybe he'll score 10 goals for us and Lindner and FCC will have paid him $180k for each. I like how that thought makes me feel.

Columbus claims Adi; takes on low budget charge
The Athletic reported last week that the Columbus Crew has claimed former FC Cincinnati striker Fanendo Adi on waivers. The move reunited Adi with his former coach in Portland, Caleb Porter. Adi and Porter won an MLS Cup together in 2015 with the Timbers. Coincidentally, that triumph came over the Columbus Crew in Columbus.

Now, there is more information about the financial particulars of the deal.

Though Adi is due a salary of just under $2 million, the Crew will pay just $205,000 of the striker’s budget charge, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the waiver claim. Per MLS roster rules, “any interested MLS club will have 48 hours from the notice of waivers to claim the player by notifying the League of the intention to claim the player and the amount of the player’s salary budget charge they wish to assume.”

Cincinnati waived Adi earlier this month after a failed first season with the expansion side. Per MLS rules, the remainder of Adi’s cost, minus the $205,000 Columbus pays, will hit Cincinnati’s budget. With Adi’s 2019 salary amounting to $1.97 million, that remaining cost is virtually certain to be above the senior maximum budget charge, which was $530,000 last year but remains a question mark for 2020 pending the collective bargaining agreement negotiations. Because of this, Adi will remain on FC Cincinnati’s books as a designated player unless FCC decides to use their one-time offseason buyout on the striker. Cincinnati has until the roster compliance deadline, Feb. 28th, to make that decision. Several sources said they expect FCC to use that buyout on Adi.

Adi scored just one goal in 12 appearances last season for Cincinnati, but found far more success under Porter in Portland, scoring 16 goals in back-to-back seasons in 2015 and 2016. Cincinnati traded $450,000 in general allocation money and $400,000 in targeted allocation money to acquire Adi from the Portland Timbers ahead of their inaugural MLS season.

Adi missed several games last season with injury. He also missed games while taking part in the MLS Substance Abuse and Behavioral Program after being cited for Operating a Vehicle While Impaired (OVI) by the Ohio State Highway Patrol in April. The Athletic reported in October that Adi filed a grievance against FC Cincinnati with the MLS Players Association, alleging poor treatment by the club.

Going to start carrying extra change with me so I'll always have a coin to flip into a fountain to wish for an Adi goal at FCC. I quite enjoy the thought of the reaction that would garner.

We won plenty of games with Jimenez, Keita, & Williams last year.
