Until we sign him, (if that’s even in the works) does he really warrant a thread?

Why are we picking up an aging player? Please remind me?

Each of us is aging. It's part of the human condition.

Gotta keep that average player age consistent ;). Can't get it too low now can we?

He's just some cb depth until the young guns get up to speed (which is unlikely this year).
They could have kept Cummings but they probably figure for what Cummings was making they can do better. So I expect this guys salary will be same as what Cummings was making (I think 400k?).

Cummings made 320k and Affolter 281k. So as long as this guy makes less than 600k and is at least as good as Cummings we come out better.

Of course he could be much better than Cummings (hopefully).

I'm not holding my breath. How many Mexican players have we been "credibly connected" with over the past year?

His career trajectory doesn’t look promising to me. Released by a smaller Spanish club, goes to another Spanish team and ends up terminating contract because they aren’t playing him. Goes back to Chivas and isn’t playing much, now wants to leave?

Yeah, but we shouldn't sign me either. I'm naturally left-footed and can play left-back or left mid. But I ought to be left off, even rec league teams.:laugh::laugh:

If we keep focusing on guys that Almeyda knows, we're going to end up older and slower. We need to sign guys in their early 20's. And why isn't Jesse finding and signing those guys?! We can afford Central Americans and some of those teams play similarly to us.

Oh f@#$ it. I need a drink, and it's only just after 11:00.

Don't we already have a few 20 something cb's? Why take a risk on another one (remember Yefferson? I bet Jesse does). We need a veteran who can fill in when Flo or Kashia get injured. Just in case our young guys aren't yet up to the task.

Yeah, the Stanford guy is too young and the Mexican guy is too old. I read about this conundrum in nursery school. :)

There are guys in their early 20s (22, 23, 24) starting for decent teams in Central America as we speak. We need one or two of them. And, our skinflint owner can afford them, and we can squeeze them into our tiny salary cap. That's what I was getting at. If Alanis is really getting old and on the downward side of his career trajectory, what good will he be? Maybe he already knows Almeyda's system and can cope with it? He needs to be an upgrade over Kashia, not an upgrade over Cummings, because Kashia isn't good enough.

Nah, this guy is replacing Cummings/Affolter. He might win a starting spot but the idea is we are adding veteran depth at CB - not necessarily upgrading the starting lineup.

Kashia makes 600K - I really doubt Jesse's plan is to obsolete him.

Overall, I'm not concerned so much with the age thing, especially if he's not a longer-term solution (and it's clear he isn't). The big worry is that it's another Almeyda guy. Fioranelli's contributions toward signings players since signing Almeyda has seemingly been nothing. I'm sure he does some negotiation and what have you, but the actual identification of talent has looked totally out of his hands. This is extremely alarming to me.

I get that the goal is to have academy players fill in the biggest roles for the team in the future. However, there will never be a time when the team shouldn't be evaluating talent outside its own org as no academy is going to create a full MLS roster. Fioranelli seems utterly incapable of handling this, and it's a core component of his job. I'm sure there's some positive to take out of this signing, but I'm not really able to see it.

With our luck he'll end up in Atlanta, New York or the shitty end of California. :(

I wonder what the heck happened at Getafe. One month isn't enough for the team to determine if he's good enough. Was there some sort of personal issue? Maybe they promised him x and gave him x-1 when he arrived?

BTW, I'm on board with this. Almeyda knows what he's getting and he'll be here for preseason to get 'reminded' what Almeyda demands from his guys.

We needed another reliable CB and he's gotta be better than Affholter and probably better than Cummings.

Age is not a concern since we'll only need him for a couple years anyway.

I just recently passed the mid-century mark, and Alanis is "aging" at 30 years old. Damn :(...

    RIP Kobe
