I am a SDSU alumnus (by coincidence I am wearing a SDSU hoodie as I type this), I have taken classes at UCSD, and I have attended games at all three schools. My son visited both SDSU and USD in his college recruitment days. SDSU is not competitive in the Pac 5 + 1 - they are the ugly girl that gets invited along so her sisters can have a party. If any of the missing Pac12 schools ever gets serious about mens soccer (USC would be the obvious one) SDSU will be thrown out like a rotten piece of fruit. If they had managed to pull off the move to Big West, that would have been a lot better for the program. As for UCSD being underfunded - one of the factors in the student vote to approve the move was an increase in student fees comparable to those paid at BW schools. Men and women soccer will be the primary fall sports at the school (no football). More details here -- http://senate.ucsd.edu/media/232231/division-i-proposal-presentation_10-11-16.pdf For those student-athletes looking for a soccer career, USD is a better choice - note that Miguel Berry was #7 pick in the MLS draft this year. While their costs are higher, NCAA rules allow their scholarships to be higher to match, and they don't seem to have any trouble getting funding to cover it. As an example, the offer to my son was the highest dollar value and about equal in net costs to us of the other good offers he received.
You don't know the half of it! He had to endure a year with yours truly serving as his manager, so I certainly agree that he's paid his dues on the local youth coaching scene.
Come on. It is quite an achievement just to get to MLS, receive that training and coaching. Hell, always great to get free boots. Most likely even the lowliest MLS player will make a decent NCAA HC.
Just because SDSU is an add-on to the pac-12 doesn’t mean they can’t be successful. If they go .500 in conference and win non conference they are in really good shape for an NCAA run. How they are in the conference doesn’t impact the ceiling the team can have with a good coach. I understand the vote at UCSD. I also know how college sports work and the resources UCSD thinks they will have vs what the reality of life as a D1. Big west level funding IS underfunded. One player making it to the MLS doesn’t define a program. That’s silly. And if that’s your metric then SDSU has guys playing pro as well. Beitashour and Steres are both starters in the MLS right now. Plus joe corona in liga Mx. And USD has, like all men’s programs, 9.9 scholarships which leaves a whole lot of tuition left to pay. A half scholarship covering $60k still leaves $30k out of pocket. That’s a lot of cash when a half scholarship at SDSU means you’re paying about $10k.

Drexel hired a really good coach. From what I hear, players at Loyola loved him. He led the Baltimore Armour U19 team to the DA Championship knock out Rounds. They lost to RSL and Sebastian Soto (who know plays for Hannover in Germany). I think Soto scored twice late otherwise they would have made it to the semi-finals (I think). That is pretty good for a non-MLS DA team.

Assistant coach Mick Giordano named interim head at UNC Asheville for 2020. https://uncabulldogs.com/news/2020/...-giordano-mens-soccer-interim-head-coach.aspx
I understand he is a young man but how can he be interim coach for basically a whole year? How could that possibly help recruiting, retention or his ability to lead? Seems to have done a lot in a short time and his success outside the college seems to indicate he is a good coach. Another name to follow and I hope that he has success.

If he had been forthcoming perhaps he wouldn't have been fired. Now it will be tough for him to find another coaching job.
