Gotta love the relationship between Jozy and TFC.. Jozy pops off on social media, TFC tries to put him in his place by leaking that they are looking to move Jozy.
Also, while it is popping-off, there's a leadership aspect to it... Telling the club an important component isn't where it should be yet. (It's not like there's a cap on spending in their physio/sports science departments.) ...Looking out for himself and his teammates. He's a big personality who wears his heart on his sleeve - that's worked out well for TFC. Jozy being injured a lot hasn't. Look at it this way - most people would be admiring and applauding the USWNT players for being outspoken about this situation, right? Can you imagine the Fed going to the media to call Rapino "trouble" and threaten retaliation?
No. That's very different. And that was still debated. If Hope Solo didn't keep continually proving she was a destructive self-centered jackass, I think that particular narrative might have turned in her favor. Like "the competence and fire are still there, but Hope the veteran is wiser now - and her courage to speak up makes her a great leader between the pipes, and off the field in the USWNT's fight for equal pa yadda yadda." Writes itself. Instead she's stealing the Fed van to drunk drive and assault folks and even her former teammates don't want her involved.
Starting a first division professional league was the stipulation laid out to the USSF when FIFA awarded the United States the 1994 World Cup. 25 seasons later MLS is booming and yet there was the gut punch of having a group of American players that find a way to not qualify for the world cup, FIFA boss Gianni Infantino said the United States is "on the verge of becoming a great soccer power" . Right on amico. https://www.espn.com/soccer/united-...-us-will-become-the-soccer-power-of-the-world Our women tho!
Galaxy have sold twice as many ST since the signing of Chicharito as they did in a comparable time frame with Zlatan. According to a club spokesman, in the days since Chicharito signed, the LA Galaxy has sold roughly twice as many season tickets as they did in the comparable time-frame after they announced Zlatan. Huge impact.https://t.co/4B5rEgsX6K— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) January 23, 2020 I wonder how many that is.
Seriously. Like how many people said to themselves "oh, Zlatan is here now. I'm going to commit to 17 evenings of pro soccer that I previously wasn't going to"?
Jozy could have told TFC brass his perspective in confidence instead of in public. That might have been a more professional approach. And, didn't Rapinoe get in trouble with US Soccer for taking a knee ala Kaepernick awhile back? She was publicly trashed by Gulati in the media at the time, as I recall. So, no, free expression is not high on the list of values of soccer honchos in this country. If you don't believe me, try waiving an unapproved flag in an MLS stadium.
