You raise an important point. Any team can play almost any other team by the semi-final stage and UEFA have to keep tickets back for any potential combination. You would expect at least two teams to fully subscribe their allocations for the semi finals. However, you would anticipate that the Netherlands would be amongst them (how many members in the fan club?). Along with England and Germany. Perhaps Belgium, Wales, Sweden, Poland or Turkey also as expats could come into the equation. You also have to cater to the possibility that the play off winners could buy all their tickets. Certainly Ireland and Scotland would be expected to. Norway and Iceland are also possible. On that basis I cannot see how UEFA can sell any of the tickets that late qualifiers might buy. That will account for a very large proportion of knock out tickets as well as quite a lot for known first round matches.

Would UEFA sell any tickets through national associations at later stages or just through the portal to anyone? Two scenarios here. 1) There is an allocation of 8,000 and the nation has pre-sold 7,000 - might they be able to sell the last 1,000 if they get through? 2) There is an allocation of 8,000 and they have sold them all in advance whilst the opponent has sold, say 4,000 - might they be offered some of the unsold 4,000 allocation?

Just looking at it a little more, I think you can pretty much tell just from the Dutch numbers exactly how many tickets they have put aside for the conditional rounds in total -- at least for the QF, SF and final. One would think you simply double the set aside for the Dutch and that would be your answer. So, for the quarter finals, 9992, for the semis 20358 and for the final 21348.

I suppose its possible that the number is actually higher but they are giving different teams different allotments. For example, it's possible that the actual holdback for the semis is 25000, but the've given the Dutch 10,000 and England 15,000. If that's the case, then there's going to be an even greater flood of tickets if England are eliminated.

It's interesting that the number is so much lower for the quarterfinals. I guess that's a reflection of the fact that every team (I believe) has at least the possibility of playing in St. Petersburg, which is 61,000, while the last three matches are all in London, with 90,000.

You make a good point that if the Dutch haven't even taken up their allotment of the conditional tickets, then you would think that's true of several other teams as well. But knowing the total number of tickets that are being held back for the conditional matches (at least what appears to be) is important information.

Hmm, I wonder if this means they won't do the general ballot until after, when they see whether all the members who requested tickets actually buy them. 4 days would be an awful short time, assuming they are going to hold to the end of January date, to do the ballot and allot tickets, but since I assume a computer does it, maybe not.

I reckon they have not done the draw yet.
I registered my interest in hospitality for the event and keep getting calls from the sales team, so I take it they are not shifting.
The seats that are not taken for hospitality will end up going to later Cat 1 sales so they may take the option of increasing the Cat 1 allocation in THIS ballot now.

That would delay running the algorithm.

I may be wrong, but this is my hunch. With on 13 days until the end of the month, can't think of another reason for the delay.

Nornally unsold tickets from national teams allocation and hospitality get sold a lot later. A cat 1 ticket bought in May 2020 will almost certainly be a significantly better seat than one bought last August.

There is no delay remember as they said end of January. Having said that I expect to hear next week.

yep - that is what happens with world cups.
If the sales are very low, though, wouldn’t be surprised if they dropped a load in this stage.
    All shall be revealed.

The fact that they have at no point said how many they have sold so far suggests to me that they are low and hopefully they don't put half the applications in a skip this time around.

indeed. My ‘phone call’ indicator is not scientific but am confident of getting all the Cat 1 tickets I applied for other than the semi and the final.
This split-country thing is a bit of a turnoff for non-home fans.

This wait has probably been more insufferable than the last.

Surely, SURELY, it'll be in the next week...

I'm not sure why SF cat 1s should be difficult. Horrendous price and obviously no one knows who will be playing, plus a big stadium.

    Midweek as well.

Agree re semis. I think they will be easy enough to get in advance or even on the day. However if England get there..........

The final will most likely be tough enough although impossible if England. Although two of Spain/France/Italy & Portugal would even make the final easy enough I believe.

My mate bought 2 x Cat 3 Semi Final tickets for France FMT in the current ballot we're still waiting on, and then also applied for 2 x FF Final France FMT which probably wasn't a bad shout from him.

So I'll also be supporting France (long as they don't come up against England in the mean time..) until the semi's at least, since I'd be getting the second ticket if they make it.

    Vive la France.

It was more the fact that England won't be in the Final I was making.

If England get to the SF, it will be the second one as I assume they will have won the group.
Netherlands, if they win the group, will also map to the second SF.
IMHO, the first SF will be easy to get tickets for BEFORE the tournament starts. Not the second.

There are a lot of well off French in London. Not so much from the others. Might be a bit more demand from France than generally anticipated if they make it.

England aren't going to do it, we all know that. Best time to watch England is 2nd group match (can't be knocked out prior) and 2nd round if they make it - which they really should this time even if only in 3rd place.

Luckily I have 4 CAT 1 for second semi
France is just a quick train ride from London so they don't need to be living there.
England will win their group easily. Group matches will be well supported but really not worth it for the neutral.
The group games will be of more interest to the lesser teams with 3 teams possibly qualifying.
Last 16 onward will be tricky for England but all their games apart from QF are homers Dublin being so close.

Did France travel to Germany in numbers? Even easier to get to for them. I can't remember that but I've no recollection of them travelling anywhere in numbers.

The direct train from Lille to London is more likely to have France supporters on it than from Paris. That is proper football country with Lille and Lens. Also direct trains from Belgium and Holland if they make it but we know they both travel.

I was referring to watching England from an England supporters point of view. The early games they'll be there and we might actually win. Just general pessimism.

Not sure about Dublin. It is close and lots will go if we're playing there but the Irish will support the other lot against us, which is fair enough.

sorry I wasnt disputing the France travelling bit I agree with you.
Dublin will be where England go should they win their group. It will be like a home game when they buy up all the spare tickets from touts:) Also in Dublin itself outside the ground and throughout the City.
Im Scottish but accept England are one of the top supported sides and especially with home advantage.

Lots of well off French in Paris as well. Stade de France is 12 minutes from Gare du Nord and they didn't sell out the 2016 final.
