    - The NBA and Tencent, a Chinese media outlet which provides a live streaming platform, announced a five-year extension of a partnership through the 2024-25 season. The deal is worth a reported $1.5 billion while Tencent has estimated that there are about 500 million fans in China consuming NBA content, ESPN reported.

That sounds like it could be a response to something. Just not what I actually said.

Viewers from the Philippines to the NBA’s global YouTube Channel watched 5.5 million hours of content during the 2018-19 season, the most of any country outside of the US. Followers of the NBA Philippines Facebook page increased 15% year over year, making it the largest regional NBA Facebook page at over 3.7 million fans.

But Paul it would be much better if pro/rel was involved, I mean times that number by a BAZILLION and you'll get what M and Crawley are getting at.

Should be easy to point to a post where I’ve made that argument then. Go for it.

  8. From this overview one can see how flawed the premise of the SL is. Some clubs mentioned to be part of it are not even in the top 20 chart of earners, which makes them limping at a 1/4 to a 1/3d in earnings to the top 7. This means that SL is going to be as skewed as the leagues these come from. It's not very likely this SL is going to present a level playing field in earnings. The greedy top clubs want a sl to cash in fantasy earnings. That's not likely if they have to share the spoils with the bottom earners of the list. To get a level playing field (which isnot what Real/Barcelona/Juve want) all clubs must get 800 million revenue or the top 7 must go back in earnings, which isnot why they want to leave in the first place.

Ex MLSer and Wayne's brother John Rooney seems to be doing pretty well at National League (fifth tier) Barrow. Almost half cetury after failing to be re-elected to the Football League, they are in a good position to be promoted to it. As I've mentioned before, it's actually arguable they are a "phoenix" club though.

Just over 3,000 showed up to the top of the table clash against Bromley yesterday.

Admittedly it's 40% above their average.

That’s over twice the crowd when I saw them play in their last season in the Football League.

So neither promotion or relegation are much of an attraction in the English Cascadia.

Obviously promotion is given the size of their crowds this season compared to recent seasons.

They weren’t relegated from the Football League so not sure what that part of your comment is about.

I hope everyone here arguing about "playoffs" vs "cup finals" realizes that the actual name of the "MLS Playoffs" is the "MLS Cup Playoffs". I'm not really sure what difference any of that makes, but I'm sure there is a meaningful difference just like there is between the Stanley Cup Playoffs, NBA Playoffs, MLB Postseason, and Champions League knockout phase.

Another nice pro/rel story brewing. I think there's a Wealdstone follower on here and they're looking an increasingly good bet to win the National League South back to the National League. Since they were relegated from the fifth level of the pyramid in 1988, they lost their stadium under "dubious" circumstances and ended up three levels down by the mid 90's. They've slowly build themselves back up in terms of both their stadium and their team. They beat third-placed Bath City 7-0 today and are 10 points ahead of second-placed Havant & Waterlooville.

    Yo!
They were 2nd placed Bath when they started. And they're 10 points up but Havant has two games in hand.

Their attendance of ~1400 yesterday was the largest gate ever at the Vale and their largest attendance since 1988.

We could argue about nothing some more if you'd like.
Pro/rel would help investment in the lower divisions.

There you go, you're welcome, everybody.

USL Unveils New Vision for Academy Landscape

In addition to the USL Academy Cup, the league will also be working diligently with each USL club to accelerate their strategic plans in the youth development space, with the ultimate goal of creating academies across all USL clubs. Currently, 32 USL clubs have youth teams with U.S. Soccer Development Academy status across the Championship, League One and League Two, while a further 10 are operating youth soccer clubs that primarily compete in other youth competitions. Beyond those groups, numerous other clubs are actively exploring various affiliate and/or academy models, which are expected to be launched in the near future.

Might have some insights in the difficult task of implementing a pro/rel system into Professional football in the USA.

It doesn't sound promising for the I-League.

The two teams that are initially promoted will not get a share of the ISL money pile, which includes TV revenue. Meanwhile I-League will lose two of it's biggest teams.

    But hey, sporting merit.

How many of those academies are subsidizing the senior team all or in part?

From that video, it seems like there are problems far beyond pro/rel.
