Will this U15 squad continue with the 2005 group or will it switch over to the 2006 group in 2020?

Yeah. Sorry, I don't think I phrased my question very well. I know for the U15 CONCACAF 2021 tourney, it will be the 2006 age group.

The tournament in Italy was 2004 in 2019 and 2003 in 2018, so I assume this years tournament in Italy will be for the 2005 year. Is that your impression also?

I would assume so. Idk that all countries use a 2 or cycle like we do so I'd think that the Italy tournament would roll up a year to the 05s.

This year would be the 05's as the 03's+Toure played in it two years ago.

Mark Cajamarca, Bajung Darboe, Aaron Heard, and Adrian Simons-Gill are the guys who are early standouts to carry this cycle. Diego Kochen is the first string GK. Dark horse for the cycle is Diego Bravo-Acosta who is a goal machine although Michael Luande looks to be a bit better up top. Patrick Shaw is your token Red Bulls player. Kimbikula Mbula is a hulk of an 06 CB who has been to a ynt camp for 05's before and should anchor this team.

Cajamarca, Darboe and Heard all look like top level players, IMO. I don't know too much about the Barcelona players, but playing for Barcelona is going to get attention. It seems like both are highly rated, as well. A few other players I'd mention are Owen Presthus, Matthew Corcoran and Gabrial Brandon. Pulisic comparisons will be inevitable with Presthus. They play the exact same style, and Presthus looks like he could be a top-level player. Corcoran is a #6 who is a little out of the Brandan Craig mold. Gabrial Brandon is a raw CB, but good athletically. The latter two are very highly rated at FC Dallas, and have played in higher age groups at FC Dallas.

I don't see a lot of separation yet in the players. There might not be a real standout. I think Darboe is probably the best player of this group of players, but its not clear cut, IMO.

Simons-Gill is legit. Playing up an age group at La Masia and made their team of the year for 2019. He is not a first team level player but he is on track to have a very good career in europe.

I've just really started creating files on 06's a few months ago. I think this will be a very strong age group, but not quite at the 2005 level.

Corcoran, Heard, Darboe and Cajamarca particularly stand out for me. Heard is a dynamo in the attack and Cajamarca has an engine rarely seen at this age. Corcoran plays deeper than the other two but can create with his passing like no one I have seen at this age level. I think FCD has the best 2005 team in the country and Corcoran is the spoke that makes everything move. Darboe will be the wild card here and why there is no doubt he belongs in this category at the moment, he is a little more difficult to project for me.

As for others mentioned above, I have seen Mbula a number of times and don't rate him at this point. I think he will struggle to have any sort of impact at the YNT level. Brandon at FCD is fantastic and is one of the best CBs I have seen in this age group.

Its still very early and so much will change with kids of this age. A couple of other names to keep an eye on in this group, outside of those already mentioned. Tyler Hall at Inter Miami, Luis Moreno at Houston Dynamo, Ryan Reid at Sporting KC, Diego Bravo-Acosta at TFA and Nayrobi Vargas at FCD.

Hopefully we will get to see some of these players in the U15 GA Cup this Spring. I think we will be able to learn more about them in that kind of environment.

Javen Romero and Zen Franco could also be players to consider in this cycle.

Here's the list of '06s (and one '07) we know of who have been previously called up to an '05 USYNT U14 ID camp, playing up a year or two. Obviously this certainly does not mean these are all the best prospects, nor that all of these are clearly good prospects. Probably a few more '06s were listed on the large U14 rosters; we just don't recognize them.

    M Micah Burton, Minnesota
    M Aaron Heard, Union
    F Michael Luande, Sounders
    D Kibukila Mbula, San Antonio
GK Misael Mena, Sporting KC (he scored a goal in DA play)
M Axel Perez, Inter Miami ('07 playing up two years with US U14s)
    M Solomon Straub, Minnesota

None of these made it to the final US '05 roster consisting of Nati Clarke, Gage Akalu, Francis Jacobs, Emmanuel Ochoa, Jordan Jones, Reed Baker-Whiting, Italo Jenkins, etc. which played a tournament in Poland in October. Four of them -- Burton, Heard, Luande, and Perez ('07) -- did make it to the June US U14 camp from which the 20-player October roster was selected. The June camp was 60 players whittled down from about 240 from the regional ID camps.

I watched the five FC Dallas u14 games in Mexico that you can find on this youtube account. They were all pretty enjoyable, except the one against Deportivo Cafessa. FC Dallas was far better and it wasn’t a real game.

The obvious player who was good was Corcoran. His touch on the ball is excellent, and he can do it under pressure. He likes to progress the ball through combination with his CM partners. Then there’s the well weighted diagonals between the opposition CBs and fullbacks. He normally plays quickly but other times hold onto the ball, waiting and alert to pass lanes opening amidst the movement around him (I’m not saying this is a trademark, but I’ve seen him do it). In a couple of the games he was very good -- his best one was against Chivas, if memory serves. There was a half or two in the other games where he faded a bit and had some lose giveaways. His tournament highlight: https://streamable.com/9fqru

Gabrial Brandon, CB, was consistent. He looked very steady in 1v1s, and whenever a guy got played in behind he’d track them down with purpose. He’s a dominant athlete for his age. Big and mobile. In possession he played simply, with the occasional dribble to skip by a guy and find a teammate. His placements of these passes wouldn’t always be perfect, but good enough for the most part. Very occasionally he’d play a longer diagonal. His connect rate on these wasn’t too high but the aura passes was good enough it looks like something could become a consistent part of his repertoire. One of the good things about these academy games is you can hear everything the coaches yell out to the players. Most of the instructions with these younger groups seem to relate to being patient in possession, not dozing off when play is on the other side of the field, and being in the right position for cover/balance purposes. The FCD coach was particularly vocal about these things -- pretty much yelled all game. I can’t remember him saying anything to Brandon though, which I take to be a good sign. I didn’t grab many clips of him but here’s about five: https://streamable.com/ro2jv

Nayrobi Vargas, F, had this impressive goal (https://streamable.com/yw9cl) but has otherwise not yet captured my imagination. I’m not saying he won’t, just that he hasn’t. A player who has is Alejandro Urzua, CM. He appears to have a creative knack and vision for a pass. He was good in quick combination upfield and was also very reliable when he needed to run back to receive a pass from his CB and bounce it wide to a fullback. His defensive tactical awareness is not as good as, say, Corcoran’s, and he’s not overpowering in the tackle. But in any case, I like him. I should be clear that 1) I have no experience evaluating youth players and that 2) it’s not so much I think Urzua is going to be good as it is I want him to be good because I like his style and manner of being on the soccer field. Highlights: https://streamable.com/9o0lg

One other player who seemed solid was the left back Henry Canizelez. I have a much hazier sense of him than the others though. He wasn’t hugely involved in the attack, and to be honest I wasn’t watching him closely the whole time, but he didn't make a lot of noticeable mistakes and would occasionally pop up to do something that -- while not amazing -- resembled something a professional might do. I can’t give any examples and I have no clips. Don’t quote me on this Canizalez talk. I’m just saying he’s a guy I’d like to watch more of. Same goes for all of them.

What about Joah Reyna? He’s 13 I believe and should eligible for the U-15. He would clearly be the best prospect

Joah Reyna would be part of the u14 cycle for the 2007's and is not the best prospect. That title belongs to Axel Perez by a country mile.

Joah needs to start playing up age groups more if we want to expect him to be in the u15 ynt this cycle and be a part of the 2023 u17 cycle.

He has been in 2 American u14 (2005 age group) national team camps already so he is American.

Curious as to how many times you’ve seen the Perez kid. I’ve seen him a number of times and while he’s a very good player, there is a ton of hype that isn’t deserved.

His speed of play, vision, composure, off the ball movement, and ability to hold his own against significantly bigger opponents has seriously impressed me in his games.

I've seen Perez play once. I was very impressed. It might've just been one very good game, but he was playing two years up, and he was the best player on the field (albeit in a game without much talent on either side).

To be fair, I’ve only seen 3 games of his, all losses with the U14 team in Houston at Rayados tournament. Maybe I’m just a bad luck curse. I was excited to see him due to all I’ve heard about, but it was nothing like I expected. Good player, but I’ve seen many 07s at the same level, if not better. Definitely good enough to continue to track over the next few years.
